"45 minutes after eating is usually the max serum glucose, unless someone has delayed stomach emptying. I'd try to keep my glucose under 100 mg/dl (5.55 mmol/l) after eating and see what happens." 100 mg/dl after 45 mins post-prandial? How realistic is that for most people?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
if you're worried about calcification of the arteries, you can get an Ultra-fast CT scan - costs about $300 though. I do that every 10 years or so..by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just got a call from my insurance broker (known him for 20 years) - I had a medical exam for a new improved policy he was touting. He was wondering what catheter ablation was, seemed unsure how the Ins Co would react. I'll find out in due courseby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great, Heather. Where did you have the ablation done? Just curiousby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
After my ablation, nothing triggered AF, not even MSG although I stay away from that for other reasons. Running 5 miles was a trigger on occasions too, but I think dehydration played a part in that.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hope it works for you. Looking back I realize I should probably have been more on the lookout for hidden bouts of AF during the time I was Iodine supplementing. Conor Barrett, my EP, told me they saw a lot of people slide in and out of it when they used Holters. I always felt I could tell when I was in AF just by taking a pulse but even so... I had AF for years without knowing it - just lucky I hby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am surely no AF expert but it seems to me that unless Iodine or something else can stop the disruptive electrical activity in the PVs that at least in my case led to AF, there needs to be the insulation that an ablation achieves.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
But like all things, still a good idea to make sure you're not deficient as with D3, B12 etc - just have to be careful how much you take.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Combination of Lugol's 2% Potassium Iodide 32.5mg and Iodoral (7.5mg KI + 5mg I) not all at once, varied it by day. Took it for a year. I had not decreased intake at all when AF returned. As I say it was a big disappointment. It might work for someone else but not for me, and I really wanted it to work.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I hoped I fixed it with Iodine - went 6-9 months or so without perceivable AF - but it came back. I was very disappointed. I got an ablation and so far it has worked - 18 mths outby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Oh yeah, sorry read that as you weighed 97 lbs! Cutting out grains certainly drops weight fast.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Joey was 97 lbs a misprint? Seems very light even after the Wheat belly regimeby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes, everything is fine now. No Flec, no AF 18 mths out.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My HR is pretty much back where it was pre-ablation, low to mid 60s - maybe a bit higher but not much. After ablation about 18 mths ago at Mass General is was low 80s for a some months - maybe up to 6? I'm not completely sure as I stopped using the monitor after about 6 months.. Sounds like you're both doing great..by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just wondered. I was ablated by Dr Barrett. I just remember Dr. Mansour from the recovery area where he stopped by for a few minutes and asked how everything was.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Duke, a lot depends on how AF is affecting your daily life. I was gettting a few episodes a week. I dreaded them, even though a 300mg dose of Flecainide plus 60mg Diltiziam almost invariably got me back into NSR within a few hours. I didn't want to take the drugs on a daily basis so used them as a PIP. I had no left atrial enlargement, so I decided to go for ablation, after considering theby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
"What symptoms are to be expected after a straightforward PVI? " Dirk, I can tell you about my own experience after a standard PVI about 18mths ago. I have been AF free since the ablation. What I did experience, which seems pretty typical, is some extra (or more noticed) PACs or some instability for want of a more precise description while in the 'blanking period' which isby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
McHale, how can they maintain medically unnecessary? Is it true that "most" ablations do not require overnight stay? I know all the ablations at Mass General have an overnight stay. It's their EP Lab policy. What insurer?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
All this sounds like a lot of work. Not sure if I should take the Blue pill or not. I rarely sense heart things 18 mths post (not Natale) ablation but if I do then I gulp down a good few tablespoons of KCl mixed with Orange flavored water, sometimes an antacid with it, and it goes awayby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim and Shannon, that's been my experience too. With Medicare and BC/BS Medex, I have had zero medical bills for anything, and that included a hernia operation that needed a couple of pain clinic visits afterwards. Whatever Medicare doesn't pick up, the Medex plan does. A giant improvement over BC/BS alone. And no need of any referrals. I go to some of the best docs on the planet at Masby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
NSR is great and so are the PACs not going anywhere. Sounds good.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
"and supplemental insurance" What supplemental insurance? That may be key. I had an ablation at Mass General Hospital October 2012 with Medicare and Blue Cross Medex (at $200 a month) that cost me zero $$s.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon, you are so right (no news there). I can only speak for Paroxsymal AF and then obviously just for me, but the ablation I had from Dr Barrett (then at MGH) 18 mths ago has led to a rock steady NSR.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I would get AF almost invariably after eating Chinese food - MSG ladenby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I applied for LI when I still had PAF - - no issues - I think it was Prudentialby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Jayhawk, I guess it depends how extensive the ablation is. I had a PVI which was relatively straight forward (by Dr Barrett) and he said the fluoroscope time was 22 minutes total.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
