I hope it keeps up. I thought I had found a supplement way last year - worked for 6 months but then it came back with a vengeance.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Flec + Diltiziam stopped it for me in 2-3 hrs.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Lou Well it did settle down as you helpfully said , so far anyway - although I have taken a couple of Flec+Dilt a few times since the ablation a week ago, but some of this has just been for peace of mind "just in case". I haven't seen a repeat of the on-demand AF I mentioned as happening the day after the procedure. That was a really weird AF. It felt like my heart was runningby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Do you know why many EPs do prescribe AAR after ablation? Seems many people might skip further AF without any AAR. I've also heard different times for the scars to form on the ablated tissue - from weeks to months.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I thought I had it fixed with Iodine for a while. Just one noticeable episode in 6 mths (of course there could have been some silent self terminating ones at night, possibly) . But then it came back with a vengeance. I guess everyone is different and some have a situation where it can be controlled by diet or supplementation alone.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I guess you have to join to read those links. All I was really interested in was what the actual numbers were for this? The primary endpoints — cumulative and per-visit AF burdens on 7-day Holter monitoring at 3-month intervals up to 24 monthsby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Tom and Shannon. I think I'll do just that - take the drugs I used to take as PIP - 300mg Flec and 40mg Diltiazem.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Massachusetts General Hospital, EP Lab - an experienced EP - I was paroxsymal. No post ablation drugs but said use what I was using before if necessary (Flecainide and Diltiazem).by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
2 days from a PVI ablation, I have no AF when I am sitting or standing. The MINUTE I lay flat on my back, even on a couch, I get AF with a heart rate down to 55 or 60 (Post ablation standing heart rate is 78 - doc says it will slowly go back to normal). If I stand up. It goes! Lie down and then AF again. I never had that kind of on-demand AF before. EP said the procedure went perfectly and notiby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Don't they have to use them (urine catherers) if you're under GA for 5 hrs and not supposed to move for 5 hrs after that?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had anaesthesia on Friday. It's good and if I have a choice I always use it, for dental surgery stuff, whatever it is. I can't see why anyone would want to be even vaguely conscious during the procedure or even during the preliminaries like the urine catheter or all the other stuff. My doc said some people have a morbid fear of it so they will do conscious sedation when asked.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Mailman. BPM now 75. I guess it's the heart trying to get its bearings but I wonder what the body does with all that extra blood pumping around. I asked one of the docs about it being high and he seemed puzzled (or maybe just too busy). Maybe it's a good thing. Dunno. Anyway, it was an 'experience' the whole 36 hours in a very busy downtown Boston hospital.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am 170 lbs and when I used a PIP I used 300mg Flecainide a day with 40mg Diltiziam with no ill effects (except for feeling drugged).by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I asked my EP that, whether I should wait until the methods improve and he said even if some breakthrough occurred, it would take a while for the practice to become widely accepted and he felt that in my case a PVI would do the trick. We'll see. Seems most people here try diet, supplements, avoiding triggers, then on to Flec and Pill in Pocket if it's PAF then maybe taking the drugs eveby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Shannon. Just got back last night after 36 hours in Mass General. Went fine they say, no complications - well except how the urine catheter did some slight damage on the way out - but that resolved itself after a long wait and a couple of urologists. They nearly did a CT-scan. Mass General is a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School and they seem to be knee-deep in doctby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
You've certainly been a help to me, Shannon. I have known about FIRM of course but determined in my case I didn't want to wait in case any breakthough was applicable to my case, and as the (very experienced) EP I am working with said, training is a big part of the equation. I'm going in Friday and am to say the least apprehensive enough.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My records show for awareness of an AF incident May - Sep 2011 10 episodes rest of year 5 episodes May - Sep 2012 29 episodes rest of year 12 (so far) They've either been stopping on their own or I use PIP. No idea why -in my case not often exercize related. I am having an ablation this Friday..!by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
So should people switch from PVI now and just go to these centers that do FIRM?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm getting GA when mine is done next week. I'd rather be asleep. But then I ask to be asleep for everything they offer it for, from pulling teeth on up.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't think atenolol stops afib - at least that is what 2 cardiologists told me.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I look at the interview with Sanjiv Narayan at UCSD and sure, it gives me some pause, if I can get 15 mins of ablation versus an hour or two to fix the AF ! . But as I'm already scheduled, I'm reluctant to postpone it and wait for months or years for this technique to get into general use, if it holds up. The interview makes PVI seem kind of old-fashioned almostby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've been mulling it over and I have a date for it now. With me I tried all kinds of things, avoiding triggers, diets, vitamins. Some worked for a while. I almost thought I had the answer when I had no AF after starting Iodine suppementation, well not for 3 months anyway. Lately it's been back with a vengeance. 10 episodes in August and 10 in September. Up to about 9 months ago Iby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Shannon . I understand.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks guys, very reassuring. Still scary but I know that is standard. I do have a good doc at one of the foremost centers in the country in Boston so I am sure all will be ok.. Oh I meant to ask you Shannon, why do you feel in retrospect you should have had an ablation earlier? (I mean before it turned persistent)..by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks a lot for that Shannon. I am taking Flecainide as a pill in pocket now but thought the pro-arythmia risk from that drug was limited to people with some kind of ventricular issue. I guess that's another reason to get the ablation. Can I ask if you had a normal echocardio before the persistent AF ? And has your heart rate stayed about what it was pre-Ablation? That's anotherby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Is is typical that the resting heart rate goes up after ablation? Any idea why that is?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I read a bunch of conflicting stuff about effect of the scarring produced by ablation on the function of the left Atrium. I asked doc and she said typically Atrial function improved after ablation, but I am not sure if this might just be an average outcome for people some of whom might have pre-existing heart disease or enlargement of LA. I have PAF with no abnormal echocardiogram - no enlargby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
