yes indeed it does help, thanks Jackieby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie How long did it take for the tangible benefits of using Ubuiqinol to show up? Did you try a lesser dose first? Thanks Afhby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
This thread made me remember what the Mass General EP told me when I was on Flecainide before the ablation. He said to always take Diltiziam with it to avoid or lessen the chances of ventricular conduction.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Justfibbing, I'm about at the same point - well 4 months since ablation - and so far so good here too. Heart rate has now gone back to the pre-ablation rate too.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
fwiw my EP said to always use Diltiziam with Fleccainide, for some technical reason I forgot, but he wasn't recommending taking Flec alone.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My ablation was 4 months ago without incident. But I'm still watchful. No telling when the beast can rear its ugly head, but hopefully not from within my isolated Pulmonary veins for a while. Thanks go to Massachusetts General Hospital EP Lab.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Diane, like you I was on Flec but just as a pill in pocket and I just decided to get the ablation and so far so good after 3 and a half months. In my experience there is nothing much to get over and with a good EP the chances of problems are very low, 1 in a 100 or less. So I would say, go do it ..by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've also had a lot of root canals. I haven't had one fail since I started paying a leading endodontist who does the whole thing pretty well painlessly (awesome novacaine technique) in a single 1 hour visit. Like EPs have done thousands of ablations he has done thousands of root canals. You need a specialist. One thing I found out. I would never do an apicoectomy again for a failed rby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was interested to see what Dr Pinksi said in the Cleveland Heart Q&A that was recently posted Chris M: 2. How many ablations a year should a competent EP perform? Dr. Pinski: There is no strict number. Once an EP is over the learning curve, a huge number of ablations are not required to maintain the skill. Tobherd, in my case yes I had had enough of AF and the Flec/Dilt PIP - a few times a month was bearable but 12 a month was a drag and that's how it was last summer and although I had a normal echo I didn't want to risk it getting persistent . I saw a very smart EP that had 6 years of daily experience and Mass General EP Lab (well, the whole hospital really) has a good reputation, soby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
"I have only recently been experiencing atrial flitter, after taking flecanide." What does the doc have to say about that? Coincidence?by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
No, but then I didn't even know about AF until I walked into my doc for the annual checkup and happened to be in AF at the time. By the time I was rigged up with a Holter harness (a few days later) I was in NSR. When I looked back I realized I had been in AF intermittently for some years. I knew something was (occasionally) going on but wasn't curious enough to check it out.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes but elsewhere it's said:- "Furthermore, when patients with recurrent atrial fibrillation undergo second ablation we almost invariably find reconnection of several pulmonary veins. Re-isolation of the veins generally results in long term success"by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ralph, I had an ablation there 3 mths ago. You're in good hands.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
"Virtually every other forum does this" I'm not sure that is the case, at least with the forums I frequent. There may be no ideal way, and it may be I'm missing something but,if someone was searching and replied to a month old thread, probably few people would see it. Maybe that doesn't matter.. anyway just my 2c..by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sure but what happens to replies to older posts? They get lost is what. The way most of these work is they get listed in last replied to or last posted date order, latest first.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hard to see how both affordable and allowable of prior conditions unless the state mandates no pre-existing as in Massachusetts.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wow, Shannon, what a story. I know the area you mean in Holland too. A great place (to not have afib in).by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I didn't need any cardioversion, just took Flec+Dilt as a PIP to convert (quickly as a rule), but was getting 10 or so episodes per month and figured I'd get an ablation. It obviously wasn't going to get any better without intervention. That was about 10 weeks ago now. So far so good.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Awesome! Is the VA really that bad? Yikesby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Can anyone suggest a good place to get a Cardymeter from? As in cheapest from a reliable source. Seems they are all about $230. I assume they work from saliva? I saw a Youtube where someone was demoing using a bood sample.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
".Also, my question is should my friend be considering an ablation and what Dr's do quite a few in Boston. Is this sort of info available anywhere? " I had mine at Mass General. They do a lot.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I think your doc should have arranged for you to have a Holter harness for 24 hrs while you wait for the EP appointment.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just for a start you can buy an Omron HEM712C blood pressure monitor (or similar) which (reliably my experience shows) indicates if you have an irregular heartbeat (along with giving you your heartrate and BP).by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
"Although the episodes became more frequent--one per month on average-- I managed to function o.k" When I had 1 episode a month or sometimes 2, I always took Flec as a PIP. 1 or 2 a month was sort of liveable. When I started getting 8+ per month I decided to get an ablation. So far so good (2 mths out, standard PVI). I heard the NHS limit how many they pay for (rationed) so if Iby afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
About where I am too, gehauser (we were both at Mass General I think). I'm almost 2 mths out and heart rate is mid 60s whereas before ablation it was maybe 58-60 and for a while ran up to 75-85.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I assume this is going to be the basis of Dr Natale's talk at the Symposium :- Current Opinion in Cardiology: January 2013 - Volume 28 - Issue 1 - p 26–35 How to ablate long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation? I reduced AF to 2 episodes in 6 months using Iodine supplementation, or think I did. But then 6 mths later it came back with a vengeance. So I got ablated and so far that's worked out.by afhound99 - AFIBBERS FORUM
