pursuing old posts. it appears this is fish oil omega 3. I wonder if it applies for vegan sources of omega 3. One of my cardiologists (functional) is a vegan and has supplements and recommends foods for omega 3 supplementation. may be a lot less than the fish. IDK. walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, edamame, seaweed, and algae.... are just a few. I'm not a vegan but plant baby bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
I'm with George on finding a root cause. My doc is looking at Farxiga for me but I have had some heart surgeries (from congenital stuff) and it isn't just A1C related. There is so much you can do yourself to reduce inflammation. There is a time for medications of course. But if this is the first your blood test that shows that and isn't too high I would ask questions. Just meby bettylou4488 - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteMichael777 She did bring it to doc's attention a day or so later. I posted my question before doc ordered the stress test to gather more information. I didn't know what a QRS of 124 meant, or what I was supposed to do about it. A gotcha. hoping all goes well for youby bettylou4488 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been "concerned" by many nurses.. well intended and much of the time well informed. But sometimes not so much. If she / he thought it was something that needed NOW attention, they would have brought it to the doctor's attention asap. JMOby bettylou4488 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Finally talked to the nurse. The issue is a mass on my mom's heart.. Two of them. so doing an MRI to find out what but they put her on coumadin until the MRI in case they are blood clots. or whatever a heart mass is?? They thought I had a blood clot once from a TEE and turned out on the CT to be nada. The nurse did say she could switch to Eliquis but I said- leave it alone for now...by bettylou4488 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well- I finally got to talk to the nurse. Hip Hip Hooray. The issue are two masses on her heart. They are doing the MRI to see if there is a clot or maybe it is just part of her anatomy - or maybe a "heart mass????" This makes more sense.by bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
QuoteJakeS By the way if you know for sure that your mom cannot do the scan w/o being sedated I hope the ordering physician has informed the MRI site. You could call them as well and talk to someone about the magnet and their sedation protocol. I looked in her portal. It says sedated. (I had the same thought.. and wanted to make sure.). I still may call but with all that went on to make this aby bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
QuoteCarey I doubt she'll be so sedated that she can't follow instructions. And it looks like the UofM MRI is an open MRI. Their scanner has a 70 cm opening, and that's what an open MRI is. Standard MRs are 50-60 cm. None are truly open. Is the issue claustrophobia? also I was thinking they do babies who can't follow directions so certainly they have a way to do it... idby bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
QuoteJakeS I need to clarify the meaning of open. An open MRI system means there is no part of the machine on the side of the patient. In other words, if the patient turns and looks to the left they will see room and only a small portion of the scanner. The UofM reads as follows: This wide bore (70cm diameter) includes full digital d The bore is the gantry or in other words the opening whereby bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM

mom is having an MRI for a valve issue. She in no way could do any kind of MRI. They are in a smaller town- the doc office did get her set up at a larger university (UofMichigan) and she is having a sedated MRI. But a couple questions. I know with those you have to "hold your breath" .. breathe etc.. do they just not do that with sedation? Also can you not do an open MRI for cardiby bettylou4488 - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
QuoteCarey The DOAC manufacturers didn't pursue approval for valve disease patients, so the result is the data on DOACs with valve disease is still pretty limited. There have been one or two studies, and those showed that apixaban and warfarin provide comparable protection, but most doctors wouldn't feel comfortable prescribing apixaban. I know the last two are preferable for afib. Mom has some sort of leaky valve situation (TBD.. I can't get much info out of them because they are old and don't ask the questions they don't know to ask). but Doc putting mom on coumadin. Can the others be used for leaky valves? QuoteJoyWin If we’re asking our GP who is not a Cardiologist, about things a cardiologist MIGHT know about, then the answer is blowing in the wind. We may as well ask a chef. My GP, for whom I have great respect, would not answer that question, and I would not expect her to. I suppose that is true. For what it is worth I just got off the phone with my GP asking about cinnamon and turmeric. He is not a cardiologist but he didn't think in food those would be any big deal. I knew turmeric has blood thinning issues but I have been drinking this little beverage every monring. The recipe is almond milk with turmeric, cinnamon and ginger (and coconut oil and honey). since this is theoretical.. I thought I'd share what I do which is TOTALLY OCD. I snap a pic with my phone of my meds right when I take them. I went to my adult congential doc to talk about "chrontropic incompetence". I ended up talking about my mitral valve after they did an echo and it didn't look good. ive said this in other threads but I have a cardiology pharmacist that I have called for these questions. She is on the team at the hosptial. Perhaps you can find one with your team. Its funny you say that about Harry Potter because I have taken supplements and herbs into my doctor and said, "I know you may not agree with me that they might work but will they harm me?"
