I am very sorry to hear about your situation barb. I was (and still am) under 40 myself, so I can empathise with the impact of afib on your life. I'm from the UK, but I have heard a lot of the people on here talking very positively about Natale, hopefully you can get to see him.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteDaisy A few years back they tried using pacemakers to override PACs to try and prevent them from initiating afib. The idea was when the pacemaker sensed a PAC it would pace the heart faster to try and become the dominant pacing source and "overrule" the ectopic source, but apparently that didn't work well. My Pacemaker has that algorithm and it seems to work well. I occasioby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey Anyway, have any of you guys ever been told yours are 'intrusive', and what level do they have to get to to be considered instrusive? The standard cardiologists use to decide if PVCs warrant ablation is 20,000 per day, or about 13 per minute (every single minute of the day). To my knowledge, there isn't a comparable standard for PACs because PACs aren't easilby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteGeorgeN PS. as a side-note, I know what pacemakers are used for, but just out of interest, are they of any use to regulating heart-rate in terms of irregular heartbeat? Just something I was chatting about this afternoon. Mostly a pacemaker will set a floor on heart rate, like 60 BPM. The pacer times the time since the last beat. If it exceeds a set level of milliseconds, it will send aby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all, I have now finally got to see a cardiologist after about 6 months of increased 'activitiy', (albeit, not yet afib). I am now 2 1/2 years post ablation and I had about 6 months of bliss post ablation but since become ill about 18 months ago my heart has become more irritated. For example, I took about 2 hours to get to sleep last night due to immediate ectopics and fastby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes, I am often woken up or have trouble getting to sleep with a raving or pounding heart. It usually comes with an assortment of ectopics as well. I often wake up in the morning with my heart pounding as well. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the cause is. I have many candidates to point the finger at though.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteGeorgeN Nasal breathing has been a focus of mine for a long time. I use it as a signal as to whether my exercise is too intense (if I have to open my mouth). I also tape my mouth shut at night to clean up apnea patterns that showed up in an overnight heart rate vs. time recording. I've posted about breathing a number of times: Mouth taping at night Breathing to convert to NSRby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteJoeM I had this exact experience just last night whereby I noted a strong connection between breathing and ectopics/low HR Afib. I was able to control ectopics and restore sinus rhythm by deliberate breathing or short breath holds. I also had the very odd sensation of fluttering in chest, but an apparently normal sinus HR in the low 50s. All very vagal symptoms. I have also noted a strong coby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuotePompon Mouth-breathing irregularly, like I do while singing, can bring me ectopics. Karaoke is my enemy. I think we'd all admit to it being our enemy in some shape or form! haha Interesting though that it brings ectopics on for you.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Strangely, I got a lot of ectopics in the night too. Especially when I lie down to go to sleep. Left side more so, but right side can be as bad. I will forget about my breathing a bit sometimes and notice I'm breathing through my mouth. Also at these times, I notice fewer ectopics while I'm breathing through my nose as well. It's all so disheartening. I was tested for sleep aby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Anybody ever noticed this connection? I have a chronic breathing problem that has gone on for over a year now, and I've recently also found out I have a deviated septum. So not only do I have trouble breathing a lot, I also struggle to breathe normally through my nose, so I mouth breathe a lot. It doesn't help at all. But since I've noticed I have been mouth breathing a loby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yeah, apologies. I also prefer ME, because CF makes it sound like it is still, even though it's no longer thought of as, a mental disorder. I've had some neurological testing, MRI, CT scan, heart echo, amongst other things but nothing has been found. I'm utterly convinced that much of my afib is vagally induced though. I noticed a few extra beats here and there whenever I changeby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all, hope you're doing good. So does anybody on here suffer with both of the above? I mean I know we all suffer with the first one. I only ask as I've recently been diagnosed with CFS and I've found my afib has become much more "active". Not that I've had a fully blown (touch wood) episode yet but my heart has been increasingly irritated lately. Anybodyby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Its largely the same for me The Anti-fib, I am always checking for my pulse and, sadly, its become a bit of an obsession for me at times. That said, due to this, I'm also very aware of any activity that happens and for about 6 months now it's been.. off. I'm due a heart ehco on Monday and had a 7 day tape in June that showed nothing unusual. It's all very confusing.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
To be honest, I suspect the ramipril isn't a problem. When you're having ectopics and palps for what feels like no reason, you start trying to tick off what it could and couldn't be!by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey guys, So I'm having a weird issue at the moment. I've started to take my ramipril just before I go to sleep lately and last night was awful. About an hour after taking it I had a massive heart pause that pulled me awake when I was dosing whilst reading. Then I had another huge 'pause' when I turned over to go to sleep. I jumped to check my pulse twice and couldn&by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yeah, thanks guys - this was my concern. They should all be the same but the concern is that they're not. I've checked the label for 'other' ingredients and both seem the same so I suppose I'll just persevere with the new supplements and see how they go. For what it's worth, the previous ones were powder in a capsule form, whilst the new ones are tablets.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi guys, just wondered whether any of you had had issues when using different brands of supplements? I ask as I picked up a different brand via amazon the other day, to the one that I'd been using for over a month and I don't know whether it's coincidence but after taking them for 48 hours I've noticed an increase in ectopics and they're really kicking in my chest todaby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi guys, I'll keep it short - has anybody else suffered with IBS like symptoms (but often quite severe) post-ablation? When I say 'post ablation', I'm now 2 years down the road, but my issues have been going now since last February and seem to be getting worse. I've been scoped, had manometry and currently take 20mg omeprazole daily but I have really had to alter my diby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yeah, I get this too. Funnily enough, it didn't happen prior to ablation. Nor did regular ectopics. I only got those after drinking fizzy drinks with certain artificial sweeteners prior to ablation, but now I get ectopics regularly and constantly, just 2 years post ablation. Bloating is one of the biggest culprits.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, this sounds interesting. I may check it out because, 2 years post-ablation and I'm almost regretting it. Prior to ablation I had 3 episodes of afib over a 6 months period. Ended up in emergency for the last 2 before I was finally diagnosed. Had ablation 4 months after 3rd episode and 6 months on I thought all was back to 'normal'. But at this point in time, although I havby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, yeah I suffered awful bloating immediately after and for a long time following. Over 2 years post-ablation, I now have awful stomach issues. Not saying the two are related, but prior to ablation I had an iron stomach, now I struggle to eat gluten, wheat, dairy, alcohol. Basically all the good stuff. Hopefully it'll resolve for you soon and that'll be that.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I don't take any blood thinners now. Only medications I take are ramipril and omeprazole. I supplement magnesium, l-arginine, taurine and occasionally potassium and vitamin D!by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Gill, Thank you for responding! I'm sorry I've only just replied, I didn't think this was going to get a response so I stopped checking back haha I will take a good look at your reply when I get back later and thanks again. Daveby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yeah, I have to say, this could've been written by me. But it wasn't so I won't make your thread about me! All I'll tell you is that mine have been changing over the past 6 months, to the point that I've barely slept in months because I'm getting really bad night time ectopics. They don't come in as frequently as you're describing but they are dramatic,by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi guys, that's basically my question. I'm currently supplementing 500mg Mg, 2000mg Taurine and L-arginine each per day at the moment. I also take Vit D (as I'm in the UK, we need it! haha), and occasionally I'll add in potassium. But I've been suffering with chronic ectopics for months now. I'm not sure of the cause, because they change so often. They are usuaby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks pompon and shannon for your responses, it's weird how many times my heart rhythm has 'changed' since I had my ablation. Prior to ablation it was normal at around 65 BPM at rest. Highest it ever get was about 85-95 during exercise. My heart rate itself has calmed back to normal in the 2 years since ablation, but my heart rhythm is up and down with the months, always chaby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi guys, long time no post for me. Been having a host of other health problems, a lot of which seems to really irritate my heart. Ironically, I wore an event monitor for a week last month and my ectopic have rarely been so quiet in over 12 months! But to my question: can the feeling an ectopic beat causes change over time? Just that recently whenever I experience a really big one, I get thiby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Cheers for your responses. In terms of electrolytes, what would be sufficient? I am currently taking 200mg daily potassium, although I don't get enough natural potassium. I'm also supplementing 400mg magnesium daily. I drink around 1.5-2lt water daily, I also drink a few cups of decaf tea with coconut milk. Totally cur dairy out of my diet. I could really so with more protein thouby DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Jackie, Thanks for explaining this, it makes a lot of sense. I'm not necessarily suggesting that I'm hypoglycemic but the lack of food, coupled with the extreme signs of hunger I'd been experiencing for a good few hours made me think straight away that my lack of food had certainly been a huge contributing factor. I'd also just got back off a very long walk 20K steps.by DavrosT - AFIBBERS FORUM
