Hi, This is my 2nd day in a row to feel extremely dizzy, moderately nauseated & headachey. I wonder if I could just skip flecainide tonight as I have come to the realization that it is most likely the cause of my worsened problems now. History: Natale ablation 8/1/19. Atrial flutter episodes November 2019 & April 2020, both were converted. Since this past April, post ECV, wby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Understood. I have to weigh the risks vs the benefits. It is a BID dose. I have written Trent for when he gets in Monday to let them know my meds, etc. & I will see local dr next Friday. If I do get in flutter again, I am not going back in hospital overnight again just for ECV. It was overkill that night in there - so many needles, machines, no sleep, I got extremely stressed. Thanks Carey, but why is that? Isn't K1 a clotter & even though it may be a low amount, why is it that with a NOAC like Xarelto it is different - it is a blood thinner?by Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been recommended to take MegaQuinone K2-7 & I am on Xarelto 20 mg with dinner. I am post one ablation last August for parox afib & I have had 2 episodes of atrial flutter late after the blanking period and am told I now need a touchup ablation (when I can get this I don't know now bec of COVID-19!) Here are the ingredients listed on back: Vit K2 as menaquinone-7, 320 mgby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey I would try just doing a 50 mg dose and see if that does the job for you. If it does, problem solved! You know, I would love to go to 50 mg BID. I have been on the 75 for a week now & I do have some side effects. I am to check in with local cardiologist a week from today, but if you really think it is okay after my atrial flutter to cut this back to 50, I want to do that now.by Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteDaisy Guess I will have to stick with Ani - I have not had a pill so thin & breakable for cutting & dissolving on swallowing before. The dr prescribed 50-mg pills, having me take 1 1/2 pills BID. Oh well,..............Or, you could ask your doc to prescribe 150 mg tablets. That is what I get and they are less “fragile” than the 50 mg tablets and seem to cut well. That is definiteby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you all for your input. By the way, most of the time I have the best luck in pill cutting (wh I have done for yrs) with my quality butcher knife - usually works way better than any pill cutters I have been given. QuoteCarey I don't know how you're going to convince a drug store to supply you with a generic made by a specific company. I do it all the time - for different scripts I have & Walgreens is totally accommodating & it they have to order it, they do. And, it does make a big difference. I know of the Valisure pharmacy too - who reports about the bad lots on certain scripts &aby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I was just started on flecainide and the generic manufacturer on the prescription given to me was Ani. I have to cut the pills in half to get 75 mg total and the pills are very flimsy and also when I swallow them they disintegrate a little bit before I can swallow and they are bitter. Often with other prescriptions like my carvedilol I prefer Teva manufacturer. Does anyone have any suggestby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you, Susan. I tried Carey's method last week, about the 4th or 5th day of my flutter, but it did not work for me. I will take into mind though the maintenance doses you suggested for preventive effects. I did end up being able to get an ECV with return to NSR. It is my 1st cardioversion, and I am hoping it will hold for a while. Now I have to get the touch-up ablation Natale talksby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey, I looked online and saw the LSV8 came in 11 1/2 ounce cans - does that sound right? I was used to when you said large, the great big bottles. So I will try and drink two of those as fast as I can back to back, refrigerated or room temp? Then I still want to ask you was this supposed to be followed by intense exercise? Can you give me an exercise example? Or maybe you could call me so we cby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Carey. What do you mean about cardioversion being problematic now with COVID-19? Just all the risks associated with going into hospital &/or that they might be too busy with corona pts & not even doing cardioversions? Now, about your V8 thing & exercise - is that bec of the type afib you have (vagal?). Would the same thing do for me? How many ounces are there in the sizeby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, last August I had the ablation from Dr. Natale. Once in December this past year I had some tachycardia that turned into two weeks of atrial flutter. It resolved before cardioversion because the cardiologist put me back on sotalol & in the very last few days up to 120 b.i.d. and I converted. I have been off the sotalol since last January and feel so much better not on it. Chest tightnesby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotes from Shannon’s post: “After the end of week 8, the patients heart should be as quiet as a church mouse, regardless of how much blanking period activity they did, or didn't have during the first 8 weeks post ablation. But any increase in actual atrial fireworks such as AFIB, Atrial Flutter or Atrial Tachycardia, post ablation that increases in duration and/or frequency past the enby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis with goiter & suspicion of cancer after an aspiration needle biopsy in 2005. The cancer scare led to a surgery to determine that & during the procedure the surgeon felt it best to do a total thyroidectomy "because of the nodules that would continue to grow." Unfortunately, I had never been given the chance to do any treatment of meds before aby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I am about 5 months post ablation now. Since 2 weeks after getting home from my ablation, I have been followed by my cardiologist & of course also checking in with Natale's staff. I do find it difficult at times & lately it is getting more confusing as to what protocol to employ in order to be cared for closely at home & also be followed by Dr. Natale (whenever I sayby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I wrote earlier "6 days post ablation," & thought I would check back in with current results. My cough is better now, 5 weeks after ablation/anesthesia. I am not sure if I ever said it here, but CXR revealed no acute findings, but evidence of paraseptal emphysema. I was a former, though moderate smoker for 27 yrs, but that ended around 1991, I think, which is ~28 yrsby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quoteln108 Madeline, I can't answer your question, but it seems to me that this question--since it deals with post-ablation issues and medications used to control afib--is more appropriate to the Afibbers Forum. Might have a better chance for an answer if reposted there. Hi Lance, Thanks. I did do that.. I have never used this forum and wasn’t sure if it was the one I should use thisby Madeline - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Thank you all for the information about your heart rates. I had no idea that people may not feel much difference with a heart rate of 90. I was not really checking pulse often, but my thing was more that I was feeling racy & tired & wondered why, so I checked stats. I also did not really know the pulse rate was going to rise & stay like that for a while especially up to a year. Iby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, George. They had a special for August & I got it as today is the last day! TSH to satisfy the drs & FT3 & FT4 for me.by Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
I just did Patrick McKeown's 20-min breathing exercise & even though my heart still "hurts" feeling hyperthyroid like, my pulse is now 78. It was 95 three hr ago when I last took it. I have been feeling racy & tired post ablation & getting off my sotalol 2 weeks ago. Thanks.by Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey I've been through this six times and every ablation left me with a heart rate in the 90s that took many months to very slowly return to normal. I've heard the same thing from virtually every single person I've ever known who had an ablation. Honestly, I didn't really notice it unless I felt my pulse or took a Kardia reading. QuoteThe Anti-Fib Have you thought about increasing the dosage of the Inderal LA? 60mg is a smaller formulation of the Drug. Maybe try it at 80mg/day? I would contact Natale's Office, 90-100 HR is too high, especially if it makes you feel that uncomfortable. Thanks, I did contact the nurse following me at Natale's & we came up with the following formula since I already have theby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey An elevated resting heart rate is 100% normal after an ablation. Everyone experiences it and it can last a surprisingly long time, upwards of a year. It's perfectly normal. To this I say: I understand people say the heart rate may even run high for a year, but apparently runners whose previous "normal" was 50 are okay with a new "normal" of 70, but donby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM

As stated, I am almost 4 weeks post my ablation by Dr. Natale. I came home on the same antiarrhythmic of sotalol 80 mg q.12h. I have had a strange sensation in my chest in that it feels like a wheeze (tho it does not sound like it) if I breathe in deeper than usual, which one really does quite often - who breathes shallowly as a rule? I found an answer to someone’s question re a post-surgical cough on the Internet last night and this is what was said: Dear Dr. Roach: A year ago, I had cardiac bypass surgery. Everything went great: I had no pain. About a day or two after getting home, I started coughing. I would cough and cough and cough. It started when I would lie down, and sitting up initially helped. Today is 16 days post ablation & I had what felt like an afib episode this morning with 171 bpm, but Kardia deemed it unclassified & by 40 minutes later it was deemed normal. I was disappointed though we were told these episodes are possibilities in the 1st 3 months. And also as a reminder, I got off my sotalol 80 mg q.12 h by 8/14 & 8/15/19 & started the lower dose Inderal LAby Madeline - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey Nobody can predict that for you. Beta blockers are known to cause a cough in some people. You might be one of them, and if so the Inderal might not be any better, but all you can do is try it. Yesterday when I saw my local cardiologist, he firmly said sotalol does not cause cough.
