Back to the medication-related question. Carey, I started the increased dose of Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release (1-23-2021) and before I took the increased dose at 9am, I took a Kardia reading at 8:50 am, and two other readings -- one reading was just past noon, and another reading at 9:44 pm). I don't know how to "interpret" the Kardia readings, but the link to them isby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, Carey for the additional info. My EP and I did briefly visit the option for Multaq. At this point, I feel we're doing a process of try and see with different meds. I'm hoping I can get a specific definitive dx from him when I email him on Monday -- unless this a-fib stuff is nebulous even with a 12-lead EKG. Wolfpak and George, yes, I'm in So Cal and things are a worsby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the replies! I know meds behave differently with each person, but I sure don't need swollen ankles or a weight gain! Calcium channel blockers might be the next thing to look at if the increased Metoprolol doesn't work the way I'd want it to work. Carey, I guess I'm wondering since my visits to the ER indicate that my rate is fast, but my rhythm is steady, woulby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
At the end of last year, Nov 9, Dec 7, and this year (last week!) on Jan. 13, I was in the ER for tachycardia that didn't resolve by itself. I got back into normal sinus rhythm with a two consecutive doses of Diltiazem in my IV, given about an hour apart. I only drink water (not even sparkle water!), I don't drink any kind of tea or coffee, I don't smoke or do gummies and sucby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ewwwwww. Buzzards, vultures, California condors and now flies. I'm filing this under stuff that I really didn't wanna know but now I know and will probably remember for a long time! LOLby SueChef - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Susan.d, yes, I did finally go to bed & slept well-- no surprise after the days I had! Carey, as always, thank you for your kind words and medical acumen. I did indeed experience The Big Pee Sunday more than Monday. In the ER, Adenosine was offered as an option, but I wanted to try the beta blocker first & then reevaluate. So I likely had flutter or ?by SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Here is one of the lab results from today, that is very worrisome to me. The ER Doctors downplayed it and said it was most likely elevated because I had been in such a fast heart rate for over 24 hours. Maybe, maybe not. I figured I would come here and ask the collective brilliant minds what you all think because I'm a lot scared with this lab result! B type Natriuretic Peptide--my valueby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM

I have a Kardia 6 Lead. I got overheated this morning & I've had what I THINK is flutter since 8:20 a.m. HR has been in the mid 150s. I tried a bunch of interventions like cold pack, cold packs on feet, coughing hard, low sodium V-8, that blowing valsalva thing, I also had the urine dump a few times, and then decided to just keep very cool in front of the fan and with the A/C on, andby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM

Thank you Susan D! I had no idea that wetting my fingers and knee would help prevent the jumpy readings! I have not tried soaking my feet in room temp or cooler water. Thanks for the suggestion & for the Kardia link. I listened to a Calm app and a Rain app I have, listened for about 30-40 minutes each, plus a relaxation medication, and those did bupkis. It's now about 5 1/2 hoursby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
I got stressed and overheated today and I think that's what triggered my SVTs -- sudden onset at 4:10 pm, beats per minute at 155. No real sign yet of slowing those beats per minute, although I did down a couple of low-sodium V-8 and sprayed Ancient Minerals Mg on my wrist pulse points, and put an ice pack on my head and then on my neck, and then on my face. My Kardia results confuse me,by SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi, Carey, The first time this happened recently was last week on the 28th! It resolved in about half an hour & I did become hot and sweaty. This time, less than a week later, it took about 90 minutes to resolve. I did read on one website that sweating was a symptom of SVT. Goodness knows I was hot anyway for a lot of the day... maybe having the A/C on me helped, I don't know.by SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, Susan D.... I appreciate you sharing your recent experiences, and esp about face mask and the oxygen masks during you ECV !by SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, George! I must have been typing my update when you were posting yours. I thought SVT (I needed adenosine the first time to convert but don't think I've had another episode) didn't resolve on its own.... I'm still wondering why the sweats. The nurse call line has never been helpful anytime I've called...the person answering the phone will take info, tby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
About 90 minutes ago (and up to this very minute and continuing) , in the LaZBoy watching a movie, i started getting tachycardia at 140 bpm. My BP was slightly high, but it seemed my pulse was steady versus bouncing around. Out of the blue!!!! No triggers that I could tell! I was relaxed! I do not have a Kardia and am guessing that it's a-fib and not SVT. Since then (and my pulse oxby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, thank you so much for this post, and thanks to so many wonderful people here who have shared info and advice with me (even though you've been stellar with info and explanations, I'm still not "all that" with medical smarts regarding a-fib), and also shout outs to Shannon, Carey, and Hans. My EP has been of little to no help about supplements.. As for COVID-19, we have been self-isolating since March 14. Backstory: Eight years ago I was dx with Meniere's, which I feel was related directly to the shingles vaccine (got the <live> vaccine on a Wed, woke up deaf in my left ear on Thursday). I think Meniere's was a mistaken dx as I had no other symptoms & myby SueChef - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Is there some kind of reference chart that someone can link for me to know the differences among the rhythm disorders? I've had a-fib and SVT, and they both felt like a fish flopping in my chest. One is steady but very fast, and the other is all over the place but fast too? I know tachycardia is a rapid heartbeat, but that's simplistic. I know bradycardia is an abnormally slow heartby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, Carey, for your encouraging and kind words! Intellectually I know what I've learned here & from my EP about a-fib stuff, but emotionally, well, that's different. lolam Susan D, thanks so much for sharing your experience with Flecainide! I'm so sorry you had to go through that!by SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for ringing in, Daisy! You're right to clarify that metoprolol is antiarrythmic and Pradaxa is an anticoagulant. Carey, I must have miscommunicated, my apologies. I had not intended to skip my meds, but did wonder if my normal dose at my usual time would in any way be contraindicated since I was in a-fib. I've never taken my meds when I was having an episode. My recent pasby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, rocketritch, Yes, my EP did say I could take an increased dose of Flecainide to try to convert. Thankfully, though, by a bit after 10:00 am, things resolved so I went ahead and took my regular dose of everything I take in the morning. Sueby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tachycardia woke me at 7:50 this morning, tried my regular interventions, then drank 8oz low sodium V-8, sprayed Ancient Minerals magnesium spray (3 squirts) on wrist, tried to relax, meditate. Still have the tachycardia. If it doesn't get worse in symptoms, am I ok to take morning meds as usual at 11:30 am ? Meds are extended release metoprolol, flecainide, Pradaxa, and flecainide. Does anyone know if taking the supplements L-Lysine and Lemon Bioflavonoid complex would exacerbate a-fib? I've looked and googled and can't really find anything definitive one way or another. Thanks! Sueby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
