Wow... what a horrendous experience! So sorry to hear about this, Zoey. Hope things go better for you in the days to come. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good find, Betty Lou. Thank you for this thread. Agree with both Liz and Carey. Puzzling: The article is almost two years old, and this is the first we're hearing about it? ...even though it was scheduled to be presented at the ACC's annual meeting in 2017? Don't get that at all. Of course, one of the first things that may come to mind these days is the "politics of hby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Think it's a GREAT idea, Elizabeth. I update my EP every year on my supps... and he makes suggestions... e.g., he's asked me to add CoQ10 and D3, and cut out Vitamin E. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey, M. Suggest you forward a well-detailed list of the supps to your cardio, and request her / his specific recommendations. All the best! /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Anyone know if there are devices other than those mentioned in the article (CoaguChek) for home testing of INR? Thank you. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Agree with the consensus of our forum members on this. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotewolfpack ... God, I hate that word...Let’s replace it with something simple, like “dee-gee”. That's funny! And I agree. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Don't know anyone doing that, White. But your doc's advice makes a lot of sense to me. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Since we're discussing many topics within this thread, I'm gonna be bold and ask a short question related to NOACs. (Hope no one believes I'm trying to railroad the original poster's subject.) Anyone have the latest on Lupin’s generic Eliquis? Thank you. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
FWIW, my EP recommends 300 mg daily. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you, Shannon, for all you do for Afib folks... soon everywhere! /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
This new procedure certainly seems tricky and risky... especially in the long term. May be several years out before it gets widely blessed. \Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, Cindy. Glad to hear the discomfort is now behind you. Didn't experience any of the pains you described after my aflutter ablation. And like yours, I was also kept overnight, which I believe was the typical procedure (Pennsylvania). And also very common, my aflutter was readily fixed, only to be followed a short while thereafter by afib. Fingers crossed for you! \Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
@George77... the experience you recounted does sound like afib. Good luck! \Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon -- Good morning! Appreciate your clarification of the research history on ASA use in AF. I thought the critiques were much more recent than 10 to 15 years ago, but as a senior, I know how fast time can seem to pass. :>) Which raises the question: why then have the CHADS2 / CHA₂DS₂-VASc guidelines not been modified through the years, particularly as to recommendations for anti-pby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
...down over 21% from January 2017 (was about $105 / month), for 60-day supply of 5 mg at Canada Drugs. Now (as of 7/7/17): Eliquis (5 mg) at Canada Drugs... approximately $82.50 / month. Coumadin in USA (Walmart)... $3.33 / month. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, Mike. Happy 4th! Been on atenolol since my AF diagnosis 16 years ago. The med has worked great for me! Started at 50 mg, then reduced to 25 mg two years ago. Throughout the first 14 years, I worked full-time, exercised regularly (power-walk and strength-train), and sang and played electric bass in an Oldies / Retro band three or four times a month. Retired two years ago, and contiby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey there, J... and forum members. You've likely read Dr. Mandrola's article from late last year. But I'm placing the link to it below in case you or others haven't. Within that article is another cite to an additional article. Hoping everyone's doing well. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Agree with ya, Catherine. "Last month a young man in the next bed when my husband went in for valve surgery had internal bleeding and doctor's were flummoxed from where it was originating. He was on Xarelto." And the above is another example of why we need a reliable way to check the anti-coag status of patients on NOACs. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just got back to this thread. Thanks again to all. Travis, your vid demo-ing the ordering process was superb! /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks much for jumping in, S. As more and more folks are prescribed NOACs -- and the promotion / marketing of these has been huge, the need for a way to assess anti-coag status becomes more and more significant... in both emergency and non-emergency settings. In the emergency room, I guess the issue could be dealt with through blood transfusions... but this would divert greatly needed timeby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Excellent response, S! /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't, S. But do recall some recent posts by others here on how to obtain NOACs at more reasonable prices. A forum search should bear some fruit. In the event it doesn't, start a new thread with that as the topic. Good luck! /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
That's great news, S! Keep it going. BTW, forgot to share in my previous post that my friend's clots resulted from a botched hip replacement performed in SW Florida. Was very surprised to hear this, as I know many who have gone through this surgery here, and all rave about their procedure. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm also a CHAD "1." EP advised not to anti-coag. I do take supplements. My atria stroke risk score result: "Low risk (0-5 Points), <1% annual risk of ischemic stroke." /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
J -- Thanks for the response. Just think it'd be so prudent to do even a yearly check on the effectiveness of the med... both physiologically and from a liability perspective... never mind the peace of mind it would provide to the patient... knowing that, in fact, the appropriate level of anti-coagulation is actually being achieved. Can only imagine a patient's reaction upon learnby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just saw this, J. Super-important topic. Stroke can be a life-changer. Excellent... as always! Thank you for caring about everyone here. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
Saw this yesterday. Cool! But we've got to keep the consumption moderate. /Lby LarryG - AFIBBERS FORUM
