I’m with Jackie on the Calcium. We certainly don’t need a huge amount to be in the healthy range. In fact I stopped taking it at all after being told I had Osteoporosis...having been supplementing with it for 20 years. My bone doc suggested high dose D3 and calcium from natural sources, but don’t overdo it. So it’s yogurt, full cream milk, bit of cheese and as a vegetarian, plenty of veggies nuby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Grace, as one of the many people who responded with empathy and a genuine desire to help, I too am sorry if you felt hurt by my comments. Take very good care of yourself.by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Grace This site is, and has been a god send for those like myself who suffer with ongoing Vagal AF and can see no light at the end of the tunnel due to other medical conditions. That said, when I ask a question of the forum members I read each answer avidly and take what I need from each. If people seem to be coming across as arrogant or brusque that is a perception and is certainly not true.by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I too itch a little since starting Eliquis, and I feel a bit unwell with flu like symptoms most days. I tried Xarelto but it upset my gut... and I had a PE while on it. Dr said Eliquis is the safest?by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Socalsteve, At least they are concerned that they do no harm by monitoring the medication. Over here inOZ they just give you a script and good luck if you have adverse reactions. When I mentioned this to my Dr he said "oh, it's just a waste of everyone's time"by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Triggers for me are definitely food...that is eating or drinking too fast or too much.Having GERD I think can make it more likely for me. My gut seems to be tied to the majority of my episodes. Others: Not staying well hydrated' Alcohol...altho a small glass of red can be ok sometimes. Stress, physical or mental can kick it off. But on the other hand if I pace myself physically it'by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just saw your response Carey...and if only I could convince myself of this when I'm flat on my back trying to get my HR down and trying not to pass out or throw up. I'm not telling people that it has happened or is likely to, I am merely saying that when you have very significant heart rates and quite severe symptoms it is hard not to be afraid. Of all my chronic conditions AF isby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, 48 hours off the Eliquis and they said the PE was spontaneous, however I had had the flu and had not taken OAC (Xarelto at that time for a few days)by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the response. I'm taking Magnesium, Taurine,Potassium ,B12,Ribose,COQ10, Omega 3,and D3 and Nexium when required. I have asked the Dr's including my cardiologist, and the usual response is you SHOULD be ok which I don't find very comforting.I'm guessing it's a damned if I do and damned if I don't event! ><by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Has anyone had an Edoscopy while taking Eliquis. I’m due for one in a couple of weeks and am nervous about the procedure(bleeding risk) and stopping the NOAC because I’ve had a PE in the past . Any recommendations or advice appreciated. Should I continue my supplements or stop those as well. I’m not normally nervous about things but this one has me concerned.by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been looking at this for some time since I first read about the association between AF and brain function, worrying that my bouts of AF will slowly send me into Dementia. As we "age" we tend to slow down physically, but I think it's important not to let age control who and what we are by aggressively seeking ways to stay fit in mind and body. I have many friends whoby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the response Wolfpack, I can’t help the anxiety when the HR starts to climb. You would think after 15 years it would be ho hum. The joys of AF I guessby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Could someone answer a question for me please. Over the many years I've had AF (I believe Vagal, usually 4-5 times a month lasting between 5 hours and 12 hours , spontaneously converts) I have always managed my AF myself and have had very few trips to ER. ***I have always wondered what other peoples HR peaks at when in AF Reason I ask is because mine usually is around 165+ BPM (onby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
It's a poorly worded report. I think what they are saying is that people who are told their AF has resolved (maybe go onto ER and HR returns to normal) without any follow up maybe have AF occurring without them being aware of it. In these cases obviously they are at risk. Blood thinners and rate or rhythm control options should be looked at. I don't think we are ever cured but we caby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I too believe I'm a Vagal AFibber. After a meal, relaxing by the TV, eat or drink a bit too fast, and bang. I'm away. Tonight grabbed a piece of licorice on the way to the kitchen and immediately went into very rapid and chaotic AF.. I kept wanting to pass out and HR was so fast I couldn't catch my breath. Chest pain was nasty as well. I think this was the scariest episode inby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I hope someone somewhere does get a grant to study the effects of Marijuana on AF. I suffer chronic pain as well as other conditions. This week after an excruciating 5 days with spinal pain and no drug relief I was offered Panadol Osteo or Oxynorm or Oxycontin. Panadol is useless. In the past I have resorted to the Opioids but found they can cause me to go into AF, and usually much fasterby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just wondering if anyone is taking Niacin. I read a report on Dr Sinatra's site about the benefits for those of us who have CAD, along with AF. Just wondering if it may interact with OACS (Eliquis) Read a couple of sites that said dont take with blood thinners, but never know what is medically correct or proven when one's doing random browsing. I tend to favour the statements that aby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey you are spot on...my father had AF, my grandfather had it,some of my mothers siblings died quite young in their 30's of chest complaints. I'm the only sufferer out of 6 kids that has it, but my very fit and healthy 47 year old son has recently been told he appears to have an electrical problem with his heart? I've said nothing at this time, don't want to scare him hby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Catherine, I'm a vegetarian and use whole milk for my Kefir. I purchased seeds.from a local Organic producer. I've suffered from gut problems for a long as I can remember. Had fundoplication procedure many years ago which was a waste of time and effort. I have other chronic conditions which make life difficult HR around 165-190+ when in AF, and episodes 4-5 times a month, sometimeby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Catherine, I go into AF 90% of the time (probably more) after eating, particularly if I rush it. The same can happen when I drink quickly. I have a very touchy interior. I’m constantly feeling as if my oesophageus is is raw. I can also get an episode if I rub my chest too hard, like say when I’m drying myself after a shower. I’m pretty sure it’s my Vagal Nerve that is super sensitive and probaby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kong, how do you know it didn’t shorten your episodes. I never know how long mine will last.4 hours 24 hours? Maybe you would have had longer episodes without it. I think Flecainide is not a bad drug. I used it as PIP for many years until I developed CAD, and it’s contraindicated if you have blockages. Flecainide has had a lot of bad press over the years and I worried about it a lot when I was fiby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I do get chest pain when I have an episode. In fact it’s usually what alerts me to the fact I’m having an episode along with shortness of breath and dizziness. Carey I’m surprised you don’t think it’s a common side effect and makes me think maybe I should be stressing this with my Cardio. But I’ve had the complaint for 15 years and have episodes at least 3-4 times a month so I guess I’ve just accby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Think the Anti Fib answered your question. You need to see an Electrophysiologist preferably, or a ‘good’ Cardiologist. From my experience over 15 years of AF, the average GP knows very little about AF and some Cardiologists have a very narrow interest or knowledge of it. Be proactive. with this condition you need to.by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sorry, but when my HR is at 190-200 bpm and chaotic, stopping and starting...my greatest feat is sudden cardiac arrest. The ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 trial showed a link between AF and sudden cardiac death. Whilst I don’t linger over or become morbidly obsessed about reports (there are so many) it pays to be cautious and give your heart the care it deserves. After all it is working hard to keep you aby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I believe there are a million reasons why we get AF....WHY someone who smokes and drinks to excess and has a most unhealthy diet lives to a ripe old age and dies of natural causes. Why someone who treats their body like a temple, eats well, sleeps well, keeps fit, lives a calm and peaceful life, gets AF, and down the track suffers a devastating stroke and dies. I’ve known both in my life. I hby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I would speak to your Cardiologist. It might be nothing, but it’s always best to get an opinion and maybe some tests if you are unhappy with how you feel. If you think you can’t explain it ask a friend or relative to go with you. All the best.by JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Simple...you need a different Doctor. Or you need to tell him/her again what you want and insist he arranges or at least tells you where to get them done. I have been in hospital and had Drs trying to give me Digoxin...I have been adamant and outright refused to allow them to do it. They call me difficult and non compliant. My initial Cardio who I see very rarely these days will not even dby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
I can understand your confusion with Flecainide. I used it as a PIP for around 8 years and then I was told I had mild CAD...nothing to worry about. Just keep taking the Flecainide said my Own Dr. Another Dr in ER said seems reasonable to continue. A different Dr said don’t take it, it will kill you. I had already decided not to take it at this point. I have read and re read the problems it canby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Everybody get anxious, but you do learn to live with th AF. Stress can be a trigger so try and relax. Think of it as a nuisance rather than a threat. Yes it can be dangerous, it can cause strokes and clots, but mostly it cause one to freak out. I’ve had it for 15 years, 4-5 times a month, extremely chaotic and fast, HR up to 210 bpm ,nausea, dizziness, chest arm and jaw pain, can faint so need toby JoyWin - AFIBBERS FORUM
