Hi Johnny, I was instructed to stop Amiodarone 3 weeks after my RF ablation ( II was a Flec failure). I’ve been fine, it was scary to stop but it’s great not to need any drugs!by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
My cousin had a PFA with Dr Reddy on Tuesday as well as Johnny who just posted. They were treated on same day in New York! Interesting. She went in early and had about a 4 hour procedure because he ablated one side with Pulse Field for Afib and the other side for flutter with Radio Frequency using 2 veins in the groin area. Excuse my layman terms but I don’t know the vernacular the way some hereby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you Linda, I too have learned a lot on this forum. I am sorry to hear you lost a brother too. I urged my brother to read Carey’s post on how can you have multiple ablations and still have Afib before he made a decision.. My cousin had a stroke also but survived and has recovered -mostly, it was before she took Eliquis and was not considered high risk even though she had Afib for several yeaby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carry, I agree. Eventually they will find the “errant type ”gene. Until then improved drugs and ablations are all we have to deal with. Meditation, supplements, coconut water, breath work, etc can help but …..it’s bigger than that I’m convinced.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you. We live one day at a time and enjoy what we have. My cousin has been under her Dr. supervision to take 400 within 24 hours. It is the only thing that can convert her. And it exhausts her. The Reddy ablation can’t happen soon enough.🙏by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
I thought I would share an update on ablations my family has had since I have written several times about the Afib genetic defect apparently that I and my siblings have ( and father, cousins and aunts and uncles…). Sadly, tragically, in April my older brother passed away 2 days after having a convergent ablation in Jacksonville FL. It was his sixth ablation, his first convergent. He was 76 andby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
You’re right that everyone experiences Afib differently and I’m learning that there are many factors in the progression or not. Everyone in my family who is affected is very aware when it kicks in and depending on the episode, i.e.heart rate, severity of irregular beats, can either ride it out or seeks medical attention. Although 2 of my brothers with persistent Afib need cardioversions to correby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good evening. I’ve posted here before about my family history of Afib. I’m wondering if any of you have any knowledge about a procedure my brother is having next week at Emory. He has a 20 year history of persistent Afib, having had 4 ablations and at least 50 cardioversions. This is the procedure: For my own experience, I was diagnosed with paroxysmal Afib 5 years ago and was pretty well coby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jeanie, your experience and lifestyle is almost exactly the same as mine. I was diagnosed with Afib at 69 and thankfully it was and controlled with Flecanide for several years until it began to lose its effectiveness. It became too uncomfortable and unpredictable and scary so I opted for an Ablation and had one in November 2022. For the most part I have been in NSR with a pretty steady 65 bpm anby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just to add to the mix. My experience was very similar to those comments before me. Flec worked great (dose 100 x2 a day) for 4 years, only few breakthroughs, but gradually they became more frequent and longer. Was told to up the dose to 250 and within a few weeks I required 2 ER visits with uncontrollable 175+ steady BPM. Ablation was my next option other than trying another drug So far the aby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
I understand the science behind Keto, as much as a non scientific person can and I know my friend seems healthy and keeps weight off. But she has cut out 50% of the foods she used to love and her monk sugar sweets have an aftertaste although they can be loaded with cream cheese, nuts, cocolate, etc.. I guess I'd rather cut back than cut out so many foods I love.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
My good friend encouraged me to go Keto, she's been on for years to maintain her weight but within 3 weeks I had 2 very scary afib episodes,. My Afib had been well controlled up until then with Flecanide. Whether I went into a Keto regime too fast, or didn't supplement with enough minerals, potassium, whatever, I stopped. Besides, not eating fruit except for a few berries a day didnby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've thought of that. When EPs or Cardiologists say their patients haven't returned in x amount of years, my dark side thinks some of them were fatalities. There should be a followup every year to see actual success rates. But then....do we really want to know?by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you. This forum has been a great source of information and shared experiences so thank you!by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thought I would share my experience with my ablation 7 weeks ago in Ft Lauderdale Fl. with Dr Daniel Weitz. I've posted before about the genetic predisposition of Afib in my family with my 3 siblings, cousins, my father, several aunts (interestingly all on the Polish side of the family). Anyway, after Flecanide failure I opted for an ablation with great trepidation since my brothers have hadby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Since you stop Xarelto 2 days prior to most surgeries, I figure your blood is suffiently thinned one day after taking a pill. So I skip a day ( or two) a week. Makes Xeralto last longer with same effectiveness.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Understood. There are many who leave great reviews and some that are unhappy. In reviewing services and products online, I’ve done both. Take it as you will.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
I think we have to accept that there are many excellent EP’s out there doing great work to help us. Natale is one of them. The Dr. I’ve been talking to knows him and has seen some of his patients. Nonetheless,I don’t have a problem traveling to Austin,. If you can’t pay attention to reviews online, then how do you choose? you can only go by others recommendations. My brothers went to the “best”by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Still have no heard from Natalie’s office, it’s been almost a week… but my EP does not think much of his work although many have been helped. And although I am a Cleveland Clinic patient, Pinsky’s reviews seemingly went south in the past few years and a few scary ones recently in the past few years. I think it’s not just luck but an educated decision, a Dr who has experience and you trust. I’mby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you for for this forum! It has been a source of excellent information about AFib. I mentioned in a previous post of having a solid history of AFib in my family, and two of my brothers have had a total of 9 ablations between them ( over about 15 years) at great medical centers- Duke, Stanford, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. It has been said over and over here to find the best EP, it makes alby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
I personally believe we can do a lot more through diet, holistic, stress management, and yes, herbal treatments to improve and in many cases “cure” our ailments. We probably can manage Afib better too through some techniques. If someone has found the answer, this is the pace to share it! As a family, we have had 4 siblings out of 5 with Afib, our father, his two sisters, several of their childreby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just want to sat thank you for the useful information. It's more than I ever get from Dr's. I feel we must do.our own research! Glad I found this group.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi LMC. I am a 74 yr old with paroxysmal Afib. I was controlled very well with Flecanide 150 mgs a day ( I had only a few episodes a year) for almost 4 years. My cousin also has been controlled well for 6 years with Flecanide 200 a day. But it stopped working for me and I ended up in ER with a steady 175 bpm. They controlled it with an Amiodarone IV and I came home with a script for 200 twice a dby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Not statistics but relevant. my cousin, 64 yrs old had a stroke 24hrs after her Afib episode. She was in Costco when her left side lost movement. She's a cardiac nurse, had a low Chad score was not taking a blood thinner. She is now taking Eliquis and has recovered 90%. Thankfully.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes thank you. I am back on CVS. Fingers crossed.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
“ The people always recommending Ablation on this site are the ones who failed to manage their own Afib, thus they tend to be more pessimistic about Afib prognosis”. As someone who comes from a family with AFib , father, aunts, uncles, cousins and most of my siblings, I can tell you we’ve all tried to “manage” it as best we can. Several are athletes and most of us exercise regularly, none areby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you. There are not many options to consider but when you’ve tried everything, lifestyle, holistic, drugs, etc then ablation is the best and only option.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Interesting. The temperature yes, could have something to do with potency. I'm hopeful the meds from a retail pharmacy will kick in. But if not, ablation seems the only option. I read an article they are scrambling to find a gene therapy as more people are diagnosed. But may not be here anytime soon.by LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good evening. I’m new to this forum and have found it very enlightening, there’s more information here than I’ve heard from my doctors.. My first question maybe there’s some thoughts here is with the success of ablation on genetic Afib. I’ve been told ablation is not as successful when the Afib is genetic which is certainly seems to be in my family.. My history? My father had Afib, had a pacemakby LoisA - AFIBBERS FORUM
