Hi, Liz, I think you answered your own question. :-)by lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Murray, You bring up a good point, although I beg to differ that enjoyable, fun food can't be healthy. If you prepare it yourself. Unless your fresh non-labelled meats are from a local source that you can trust to be minimally processed w/o added salt, you are better off with anything with a nutrition label in order to avoid added stuff. The shrimp are a case in point. Upwarby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
I should have posted this earlier this week in anticipation of the Superbowl, but here goes, anyway. I'm looking for recipes suitable for entertaining, but are still healthy for us and our unique needs. What did you do for this weekend's get-together that is tasty, and still healthy? My contribution to this endeavor is: Lemony Shrimp on a Stick (Let's face it, food isby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Justine, I don't know about the palpitations, but peppermint will relax the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) causing refulx. This is never a good idea, especially late at night. Probably not a good idea for Afibbers in general, given the relationship between gastro-intestinal issues and AF.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
McHale, I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. I'm sure it is scary as all get-out, as well as frustrating not to be able to fix her right up. Other than to agree that the trauma and diuretic probably did contribute, I don't have any advice for you, but if you were to repost this in the current forum (#9), others will see it and contribute their knowledge and support. I'm wondering about sodium, now. Is sodium absorbed easily through the skin like magnesium? What about potassium? Thanks in advance, lisaby lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi, Jill, When you say "juicing" do you mean in addition to, instead of, or just for a short cleanse away from your normal diet?by lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
I think people here are missing the point. Taking 1/2 or an entire teaspoon of cayenne at one time (in a small glass of water) is not in the same league as eating a salt, fat, dairy laden meal topped off by a churro rolled in cinnamon sugar with a scoop of ice cream, as much as I wish it was otherwise.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

Charm, After your post, I googled a few articles, and the logic for halting a heart attack makes sense. Capsaicin is a vasodilator among other things. However, is there any science (meaning studies) to back this up. All I found was ancedotal evidence. I'm a chile-head, so I thought I would try it and see what consuming that much cayenne pepper in on whack would feel like physicallyby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
gregg, If you search on the term "cookbook" , you will find the recipes. They are scattered all over the forums. Happy hunting and cooking lisaby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hans, I love the new look! The new color scheme is very nice. I'm sure once we all get used to the new features, we'll wonder how we ever got along without them. Thank you for all you do for us. lisa eta: that's supposed to be a thumb's up icon.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, I like how you went to the extreme place with "foobar", but we all know it is spelled "fubar" ;-D Oh, wait! Maybe you meant "foodbar" instead of cake? But seriously, why is it capricious? Why do some never get to use the word? Why do some get to use it all the time, while others seem to be stuck in the mud of sometimes land? lisaby lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Liz, Maybe she is pregnant, and just doesn't know it yet? That might explain the queasy/dizzy mornings. Just a thought. lisaby lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
George, The login feature is exactly the issue. Mystery solved, thanks! However, it seems that I needed to be logged in when I created the original post in order to edit it. Logging in after the fact doesn't give me the option on old posts. I guess I'm logged in from now on :-) lisaby lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Mike, My entire adult life, this has been an issue for me. I just thought it was what it was. My husband named it TB (tiny bladder) because I went to the bathroom so often. It wasn't alway small amounts. Sometimes it was racehorse amounts. I can count on one hand the number of nights I slept all the way through. It finally got so bad, that I was getting up every half hour. Two years agoby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim, So true about all of us being different, and our need to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. It seems that I am constantly tweaking this or that to see if it helps or makes it worse. I try to change only one thing at a time (and small increments), if at all possible. Sometimes, I feel like I'm my own guinea pig :-) lisa p.s. what brand mag is it that you are using.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim, Are you taking magnesium? If so, you might be the first to report constipation while doing so. Without looking up your posting history, is that the only side effect you have had for this drug? lisaby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
David, You must be doing something right, if it has been 2 years since your last episode :-) However it seems the consensus is the magical statistical 48 hours, after which they won't electro-convert you without a course of blood-thinners (Individual ER policies vary). I hope you convert before you receive this reply, but this might be something you want to discuss with your doc inby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
David, "bb" is beta blocker. It is used to slow the heart rate during an episode. It also helps the flec do its job better to convert to NSR. lisa Post Edited (02-24-11 19:02)by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
n, Check the General Heath Forum, accessible at the top of this page in the center. The thread is entitled "Strange Happenings in Texts?". It is a long thread, but informative and humorous. This forum is the place for topics that aren't directly related to AF. lisa by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
In all fairness, we can't paint all doctors with the same brush. When I was initially diagnosed, I was low in (serum) magnesium, and the docs in the ER gave me an IV solution of mag. The cardio I was referred to immediately, prescribed magnesium (yes, rx'ed mag; it was in the Navy formulary). Last summer, when I was found to be low in vit.D, he advised me to take at least 1000mg/daby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
neginf, I'm sorry to hear that things look uncertain right now. Probably the only way to know, for sure, is to ask the insurance company. Anonymously, if possible. However, logic would say that they put it in the same category as someone in remission for cancer or some such. They, or you, for that matter, don't have any way of knowing it won't recur. John, Does the doctor even know about your ulcer and previous situation? If it was me, I would at least find out if the ulcer is still there. Knowledge is your friend. In matters of your health, ignorance is never bliss. lisaby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barb, I do not do well at all in high heat/humidity situations, so for me, I would never set myself up for this. I have never been able to tolerate the combo. At heart, I'm a Desert Rat, so maybe, high heat, no humidity, would work? I do know that when the humidity is high, all bets are off. All of the suggestions about electrolytes and increased fluids should be taken. I do not knowby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
