Perfect. Leave it to Dr. Mercola to get the message out there! Great link, Erling. Thanks!

Drugs have helped people and also have hurt them----even vitamins can have adverse affects on some people (although they don't kill). Drugs are given to people who are very sick or have problems and as we always say on this board we are all different so vitamins and drugs affect us all differently.

People on this board have tried supplements and are helped but still need additional medical help, and sometimes opt for an ablation. I eat very well, take some vitamins but when I started taking 1 tab. of Propafenone at night my AF episodes became a lot fewer, once every 3 months.

Mercola sells vitamins, I tried his Krill Oil, it gave me aura migraines. Vitamin K-2 gave me heart palps, I was taking Pregnenolone, 5 mg., Dr. Brownstein (Holistic Doc.) said I needed more pregnenolone, so I upped it to 10 mg., I started getting more aura migraines, the increase didn't help me, I quit the Pregnenolone and I havn't gotten any aura Migraines since. Certain foods cause problems in sensative individuals.

The drug industry wants to make a profit, nothing wrong with that, most businesess want to make a profit----the problem is if there is cover ups and crimminal activity which is wrong. The drug industries have to go through a lot of gov. regulations, which are very expensive, they go through years of testing.

So, sometimes we all need drugs, I am glad they are there when in need----

This was first posted more than a year ago, thanks to the Life Extension Foundation and Dr Mercola [www.afibbers.org] It's an important thread to revisit.

Since teen years spent under Nazi domination horror you'd think I'd be inured to "man's evil towards man", but every time such information surfaces in my brain the same revulsion comes up. The very fact of calling this evil system health care is purely revolting.

Erling - thanks for bringing up the previous link. which included this on Alan Gaby's observations:

Dr. Gaby's response was to recall a case history of an 11-year old boy who was being treated by a rheumatologist for rheumatoid arthritis, a gasteroenterologist for severe abdominal pain and a neurologist for daily migraines. Dr. Gaby's initial observation was that each condition could be caused by a food allergy and advised this boy to follow a rotation diet followed by individual food challenges. It was found he was allergic to corn and when all corn products were eliminated, the boy became symptom free and no longer needed the three specialists.

Dr. Gaby's work with countless other patients seeing multiple doctors for multiple symptoms and has found in many cases, the symptoms are successfully treated with "natural medicine" approaches such as dietary modifications nutritional supplements or low doses of thyroid hormones which resulted in the reduction of seeing multiple specialists and reduced greatly the need for patients to receive ongoing care.

He concludes "One might reasonable argue (with no disrespect intended) that we do not have a doctor shortage, but rather a shortage of doctors who know how to get people well."

His last statement is most important.... typically drugs for chronic ailments just mask the symptoms of a core problem but don't actually "cure" the ailment. Certainly, we afibbers know that heart meds don't erase AF... just buy some time..maybe.

As Functional Medicine continues to occupy a larger place in the spotlight, more people are having their health actually restored and are throwing away their Rx drugs. Doctors such as Mercola, Oz, Hyman, Braverman, Blaylock and many more who manage to reach larger segments of the population via the media help those who want to learn more about natural health options. With their help, people make educated assessments about what they are willing to do to avoid Rx drugs and all those adverse effects. We can help by spreading the word as well with posts such as this one.

Terrifying read, Erling. Makes me even less trusting of medical opinion, and I was already very wary.

Is the point of Mercola's video that we should all give up conventional medicine, buy his products and live forever by doing so. Surely nobody serously thinks today that our lives would be better without drugs, only supplements.

Numbers without calibration are pretty meaningless. A more realistic approach might be to relate the number of deaths by medicine to the number of lives saved by medicine rather than the number of jumbo jets falling out of the sky so the risk/reward ration can be evaluated.

Everything is relative and the real issue to me is, as Jackie frequently points out, the kind of medicine being used that is most effective with the least risk; i.e., functional medicine, integrative medicine, TCM, healings, etc., - a blend of modalities that best serve those with health issues applied on an individual basis rather than via factory production line where the USA is heading.

Gordon - Please read [www.afibbers.org]

Quotes that "say it all":

-- 1776, Dr. Benjamin Rush: "Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution the time will come when medicine will organize itself into an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to doctors and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic."

-- 2011, [www.greenmedinfo.com]: "Within our present dominant medical system, healing has not simply been forgotten but intentionally exorcized as it represents the antithesis of perpetual profitability which requires the incurability of the human body. Were the truth be told, and the body's self-regenerative capabilities acknowledged, the entire superstructure of drug-based medicine and hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue it generates annually, would crumble overnight."

Erling: Good link. Thanks. I'm going to subscribe to the Greenmedinfo site for a while.

I certainly agree with him saying that most drug's are anti-something that add some chemicals to try and negate the effects of something; i.e., anti arrythmia, anti anxiety, anti hypertensive, etc rather than pro-anything that helps grow and enhance the body and mind's ability to heal itself. However, I think the same can be said for a lot of supplements.

Production line medical care is indeed scary and we're getting evermore of it by everless trained professionals.
