QuoteIndeed, with aggressive lifestyle changes half of all patients can put their atrial fibrillation into remission without drugs or procedures." At least something to give me hope to stay off the 'table'.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Welcome to this excellent site! Start reading, educating yourself. Don't think there is one advise to fit all but there are basic things (supplements, lifestyle) you can do that may help. You might consider visiting a holistic doctor as well? Best wishes!by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
How are your thyroid values?by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good luck with your current regimen! I'm still in NSR but do experience some double beats and missed beats occasionally. Had blood test the other day and my THS is 4.7mIU/L which is quite high. While the recommended range is .5 to 4 it seems to me that it should be between .3 and 2. Wonder if that triggered my last AF? I don't take any prescription anti-coagulant since Nov last yby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Silly question? Has anybody come across some research showing why the PV signals come through to upset heart rhythm? Or is it normal for the PV signals to come to the LA but something else has gone wrong? Hasn't that signal got something to do coordinating HR with breathing?by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good to know, George! Wonder if a hot bath makes for the same results? That's what i've been doing so far when i feel a cold coming on. I have the water as hot as i can stand it and my body temperature (mercury thermometer in mouth) goes up to 40 deg C. (normal body temp is about 36.6) for as long as i can bear it (not more than 5 min) Did the same when i had permanent afib because iby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for these very relevant links! I'm thinking of installing (DIY) a sauna. Not quite sure what type. Infrared sounds good but the EMFs??? One of the take outs from listening to the Finnish Cardiologist's study is the frequency and temperatures (4 -7/week and 79 deg. C.) for maximum benefit. No lower cutoff for temperature benefit was mentioned? Also, the baseline was 1 saunaby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
That finding is from 2012. This is of concern for me because my cardiologist never asked for an image of my LAA . He just prescribed the cookie cutter usual. BTW, an interesting Sauna study at the end of your link, Liz Thanks for posting!by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
It did with me. Taking 200 steps left me puffed out when i was taking Propranolol (not quite sure about that because i took another one at some stage). Chucked them away and i was much better even with a 100+ HR. Finally, they prescribed sotalol which was ok at the low dosage i was taking.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
I think electric fences are high voltage and very low current as well as pulsed at a far lower rate than 50 or 60 Hz?by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Like the video at the end. NZ man uses electric fence to get back to NSR! Lucky he didn't have any clots hanging about. Flecainide is a blood thinning (anti coagulation?) drug, mentioned in the article???by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wasn't aware of that over-regulator (FDA) making it so difficult when ascorbic acid it very helpful for so many patients and the risks are virtually zero with a few exceptions.by Joe - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Quotewolfpack There is no "rule" for episode length. It is individual-specific. Generally, if an episode is less than 3 days old, it can be cardioverted without a TEE (trans-esophageal echogram, aka "swallowing a telephone receiver"). Stroke risk is significant even after about 6 hours of AF, so depending on one's CHADS-Vasc score, anticoagulaton therapy may make senseby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for that interesting link, Dean! Wonder if potassium bi-carb has the same effect? Reason for asking is that i drink distilled water with added potassium bi-carb, a little salt and Mg to make the water slightly alkaline.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'd strongly suspect the iodine supplementation upsetting the thyroid. Have you checked values? Even if they are within 'normal' range it may not be right for you.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you George and Jackie for your feedback! The B12 is interesting and i only took it on a hunch. The HRV articles are very interesting indeed. Didn't know about that. Also explains to a degree why my HR significantly reduced after a massage session while i was in permanent AF. BTW, still in NSR but with the occasional miss and or double beat - so, still not QR.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
After reading a few interesting posts/experiences on your conversions i'd like to add mine. Hopefully it gives some hope to newbies? We all know how stressful it is to suffer from AF. 68, had about 4months permanent afib; av. 120 - +170 on 24hr holter. Converted after 2nd cardioversion about 28 months ago. Went off Sotalol 20mg/1x/day & Eliquis 5mg 1x/day (i have been reducing the dby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Both can't be right? QuotePQQ is ubiquitous in the natural world. It has been found in all plant species tested and is present in human milk. Humans, however, are not capable of synthesizing it.23 This has led researchers to classify PQQ as an essential micronutrient. George, i've read John Ott's book many years ago and it was fascinating. There is a German MD who has done a lot of work on light and health as well. I don't wear sunglasses either but others think i'm mistaken and risk cataracts. Exposing our bare skin to the sun in moderation is important i thing. Sorry, should be in general health but wonder if there could be soby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Commiserations Billy! I'd try to establish what causes your high BP. Is is ischemia, reaction to food or environmental or perhaps a combination. Also crohn's disease needs to be dealt with at the same time. Seems to me that both would/should respond to some, perhaps radical, changes to diet? 20 or so years ago i had high BP (about 170/180 over ???) and it turned out that my habitby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM

Unfortunately you are probably correct, Carey. My sister who is 2 years younger had her first AF 5 to 10 years ago (lost track of time). Interestingly, her afib stopped by taking thyroxin. Her GP didn't want to give it to her because her thyroid values were within normal range. I asked an alternative (medical scientist) practitioner and he predicted that her T values would be good but noby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey, i just read the link. Makes my head spin a bit but also explains the shotgun approach by my cardiologist. Don't know if they can't or don't want to investigate the underlying cause of AF for better treatment outcomes. Chronic inflammation or low grade inflammation seems to be a huge factor?by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks wolfpack! Don't know why the GP and Cardiologist didn't tell me that. Suspect they don't want to wast their time.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM

QuoteEnfibber Joe, that's funny: commando style gardening was in my chest with an ax and a one-man saw. Are you saying that you are AFib-free now? As far as i can tell and when on an EKG it shows ok. But the comments were: 'Sinus Bradicardia, Borderline first degree A-V Block, rSr' pattern V1 or V2, probable normal variant' - don't really understand it all and the carby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
My story is similar. It came on after commando style gardening for a few hours. I was/am quite fit and didn't think it was a concern. Was in permanent afib for about 4 months. On a 24 hour holter my HR was an average of 120 and peaking >170. Had first CV which lasted for 1 hour. The second one is still lasting after over 2 years now. My thyroid values were a bit off but they didnby Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
Do deep and slow breathing and only worry about things you can actually control. I know it's not easy but try. All the Best!by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, I used to do 4 to 5 day fasts a few times prior to afib. Since afib i've only fasted max. 30 to 40 hrs. It just didn't feel good to continue for longer. Everything i've read re sugar and hyperinsulinemia agrees with your posts.by Joe - AFIBBERS FORUM
