I spoke with Shirley Seever today to confirm that my 7 day halter monitor recordings all showed NSR - as well as some recordings I sent in last week when I was having a lot of "thumps" and skips. She said all was fine and that some of her patients would love to have readings like mine. So that was a relief. When I asked her about getting a TEE done, so they can see if I might be ableby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Shannon - that's good to know. It's kind of unsettling that my pharmacist doens't even seem to know whether a supplement might be a problem while taking Eliquis, so how are the rest of us supposed to know? Certainly the doctors don't know.. I would love to know if there are other supplements that we should be wary of taking while on these blood thinners (ie. Eliquis)by tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks again for this reminder to keep up wiht the magnesium in particular. I am just about to get up and take some more. Also get a new dose of Taurine, which has already expired (although I've heard that supplements and such are still good for quite awhile past their expiration date). Nonetheless.... Yes, I do believe that whatever has made us get Afib is still there...it just canby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
OK good to know, Jackie - thanks. Will be adding some good supplements to my protocol, and trying to de-stress more too... Be well ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Ron - I'm not sure about Eliquis but I do know that you have to be careful taking K with coumadin. From what I"ve read, you were lucky not to have any issues taking it with that, but that isn't a great idea..... Eliquis is definitely a better choice, but hopefully a few more people will hop on and let us both know what's OK and what's not with this drug. Glad you aby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
If I remember correctly, since Eliquis acts differently in the body then coumadin does, it IS Ok to take K2...but I just want to be sure. Am about to start a K2-D3 supplement and I don't want to cause any bleeding issues. Is there a list somewhere of what NOT to take with Eliquis? It seems that even the pharmacist seems unsure when it comes to many of the supplements...maybe because it&by tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I just increased my dose today, Jackie - and will watch for how I respond, increasing it if needed. Not sure why I had such a day as yesterday - it wasn't terrible, but it was unsettling as it felt like Afib was trying to 'come back" (but according to my recordings, it didn't) Thanks for your advice ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
HI again - so amazingly, after just adding 200 mgs. of magnesium and taking 1000mg of expired (!) taurine, my heart got much quieter. I am thinking that I should just add those 2 things in daily for awhile and see how it goes. I have not been tracking sodium or potassium...am eating a lower carb diet right now and adding more vegetables, which should bring my potassium up more, and sodium dby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
So it's 6.5 months past my 2nd ablation, and today I've been feeling a lot of skipped beats, "thumps and bumps" etc. I had a 7 day monitor on and just returned it last week - and of course, didn't have as much "activity" then as I am having today..but am still waiting to hear the results. Oh thank God - so happy to hear this wonderful news! You and Magdalena must feel like a HUGE boulder just came off of your shoulders! So very glad to hear that things turned out so well and she will be fine now. We are all so thrilled for you both. Time to breathe again and look forward to a happy and healthy future. Best to you both ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just goes to show why someone with frequent and/or progressing Afib shouldn't wait too long....they may be able to avoid needing any work in the LAA and therefore, no need for blood thinners.... As least the Afib is gone...will get that confirmed once the heart monitor report is evaluated..but I only felt some skips here and there. ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I believe my numbers were right on the cusp....and then I had the 2nd ablation, so not sure if that will be helpful or not. I would probably go to Dr. Blaise (sp?) in Montefiore hospital, as he is Dr. Natale's protege and up and coming Afib Dr.....will wait to hear just what they recommend. Why is it that we didn't need a blood thinner when we had Afib, but not that we don't, wby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good morning - I just finished my 7 day heart monitor for my 6 month post ablation check up. Some thumps, skips and bumps to record, but nothing too much...presumably PAC's and PVC's. I guess I'll find out within a few days. Not sure if I am supposed to ask for a TEE or what...as I am still hoping to get off of Eliquis....while it hasn't given me any problems, there areby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM

HI Shannon - so good to hear from you and especially to hear the news about Magdalena's prognosis and expected good outcome. She is indeed very lucky to have such a devoted, smart, and positive man to help her navigate the challenging and scary experience of cancer. We will all be eager to hear how she is doing, as often as you feel up to writing. May the new year bring much happiness anby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - So sorry to hear this news. You surely have had more than your share of medical challenges and 'bumps in the road" over the years, Thankfully you got your own Afib challenges under control now and that is behind you, so you can focus on taking care of Magdalena. I can certainly empathize with you in this situation, but am hopeful that she will do well in the long run - espby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
All very good information. Thanks again, Jackie. The challenge is to find a functional MD...I found a functional Chiropractor, but am not sure if that's the best around here or not. Also recently met a woman who says she is a functional nutritionist and will send out for tests on the adrenals, etc. I would like to have that done..don't know if a "regular doc' will order thoby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for your replies here, Shannon and Jackie. I've had a few more thumps and bumps on and off lately as well as a pulse that feels a bit fast (not super fast like Flutter, but in the 90's)...so I have had some concerns about any resurgence of Afib or Flutter....when this article was handed to me, it just added to the concerns... A friend handed me an article from the newspaper this morning, with this title. It stated that 'silent strokes", which occur wiht no signs or symptoms, can affect thinking and memory. Thanks Jackie - that's good to know about Omega 3's and Curcumin. I will continue taking the 1000mg. of Omega 3's I've been taking as that seems to fall within the reasonable range, and watch the dose, but still take curcumin. Curcumin is an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, so that would be good to take - as well as it's indicated for "liver problems&quby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Judianne - I have been under the impression that there are a lot more interactions with warafin and foods, supplements, etc. that there are with the newer blood thinners such as Eliquis and Xarelto. It would be good to know how these all differ from each other (in laymen's terms, of course...not a lot of technical explanations. * Warafin - * Eliquis/Xarelto * Plavix *by tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie - tumeric is basically the same thing as curcurmin, no? And how much did you cut back on your Omega -3's? Those are so important to have for a number of reasons, that I would like to be able to at least take some... Is this K2MK7 found in the Vitamin Shop? Jackie - I know I"ve seen Dr. Mercola talk about vitamin K2 along with vitamin D, but I'm beginning to have less faith in everything he says (he ALWAYS self promotes with each article he writes, for one thing)...and I haven't heard this recommendation elsewhere. Just wondering if you have seen it written that Vitamin K2 needs to be added to a Vitamin D regimen..? Also, how carefuby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for that suggestion, Todd. I will try that. And yes Ron, I'd like to hear what they have to say. Please let us know. I know, like Shannon says, that there are more things that interact with warafin, but there are also ones that I Googled that indicate you need to be careful with Eliquis and Xarelto too - and it seemed to be quite a few of them. I know that there are more concerns when taking Warafin, but I have seen a number of things saying to also be careful with fish oil, tumeric, garlic, etc. and it isn't clear what being "cautious" means...don't take it at all? I am happy for you PH and a bit envious too. I am still on Eliquis and am not sure if Dr. Natale will let me go off of it. I too had a LAA, and had some "atrial stunning" afterwards. I was under the impression that being on the new blood thinners had a lot less restrictions in what you could eat or ingest. But when I Google many supplement ingredients, a lot of them say either not to take them with a blood thinner or to be "cautious" - whatever that means. HI all - Yes, it was my concern that the inflammation they mentioned might be caused by the ablation, but as you can read from Shannon's post, it was/is not. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy 2 weeks ago, and am going back to the doctor today for a follow up.
