I have been on BB's since 2006. Have had three episodes while on BB's...2018/2019. BB kept the rate low, made me less symptomatic and therefore less anxiety. I believe they have helped...(along with sig diet changes)by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Have been on a beta blocker since 2006...first atenelol and then now metropolol. Still working for me with no side effects.by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
lots of dental work...my denist used/uses septocaine vs epi. Still has some level of epi but doesn't jack the heart rate. Downside is it has a much shorter duration than epi...by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
On Metoprolol succinate for years... and have had digestive issues as well. My best fix to date has been taking a Prilosec course off and on...takes 2-3 days to start having impact than really puts the esophageal reflux to rest. Follow up cardio visit and stress test showed benign PVC's with occasional bigeminy...guess it had just been too long since my last period of increased PVC's and it became anxiety provoking...at any rate, she asked me how I was doing with the four primary triggers....caffeine, alcohol, stress and lack of sleep. I failed on three of the four. So a week later, after I learned/confirmed whby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
To address your comment..."until heart failure" My mother's husband has been in persistent AFIB for at least 25+ years...treatment has been BB and BT...he is now 85 and doing well. And my grandmother was in persistent AFIB for 24 years until she passed away just weeks shy of her 104th birthday...not from heart disease. Interesting information...I am a large consumer of sugar via fruits and fruit juinces. To answer Carey's question, they typically feel like a "thump" for an instant...I have had them on and off for years and previous stress and holter monitor tests pointed to PVC's. Compared to PAC's and AFIB (much softer "thump" and more of a fluttering, lighter misbeat) the PVby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Long time reader, occasional poster... Currently 56 and have had PAC/PVC's and very occasional AFIB since 06(6 episodes total, last in 2019 and 5/6 cardioverted). Largely handled with diet suggestions from this board and I am very thankful for this. Developed gastro pain in October and this has continued...all the tests have been done including scans, blood, colon0scopy, upper GI, etc...aby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Steve, I have kept AFIB relatively at bay for 16 years based on the following regimen...3 episodes in 2006/2007 and 3 episodes in 2019/2020. Who knows what the future holds but this has worked for me. - BB once per day. Metaprolol succinate...50 mg. - diet high in potassium which includes fruit smoothie and a banana every day. - Stay hydrated...VERY IMPORTANT - Proper sleep. Ifby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Bob, You are at the right place for information. There are many very educated posters here who are willing to share knowledge. Very very helpful... First AFIB was 2006...had 3 episodes over 18 months that required cardioversion/chemical conversion in ER's. I was 38, active and fit. Prescribed beta blocker...moved from Atenelol to Metoprolol Succinate over the years...Have EP andby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
History of PVC's, PAC's and Afib myself...started way back in 2006 and I have mostly managed...with a little help. So, my current regime... -50 mg metaprolol succinate 1x/daily...I take it in the am. Replaced Atenelol a few years back. -Baby aspirin most days...not always. -Banana daily -Fruit smoothie daily -Centrum multi vitamin 3-4 x's per week -Low fat, low sodium, lowby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Two stories to share...one former business associate, diagnosed with AFIB ~8 years ago as part of a routine check, has been living in persistent AFIB ever since. Hello Will, Alcohol is not a trigger for me...too much alcohol is. I am more of a binge drinker...wine or beer, occasional old fashioned. If I overindulge, I must stay hydrated, or the ectopics come on...and sometimes the afib. I have had 6 afib episodes (3 14 years ago and 3 in the last 23 months)...nearly all happended 1-3 days after a big night where my hydration was out of whack and I wasby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Been dealing with ectopics and afib for >15 years...per Pompon they randomly come and go. Some triggers are sure to bring them on...other times I am well rested, seemingly stress free and following a strict diet and wham, they show up... For me... Eat a diet of minimal fats, no dairy, no processed foods, no red meats. Take 50 mg of Atenelol 1/day...statin and baby aspirin due to high CAC cby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Went in Friday am to a local ER as EP group had procedures all day. Rate was steady, between 80 - 100 controlled with my beta blocker. They did the usual blood work, administered the thinner in the belly, waited 40 minutes and then gave me a shock. Interesting, they provided a very small dose of propofol....60mg, then 10 more, then 10 more, then gave me the juice. i was a little loopy but felt, aby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Interestingly, this episode of afib is much less chaotic than normal...heart rate is in the 70's - 100's and the beats are more 'regular' irregular. When I look at the EKG via my Apple Watch, it does correlate with an Afib strip vs an Aflutter result...plan is to call my EP in the am and get the ECV performed...took 20mg of Xarelto at 2:30pm and 50mg of Atenelol at 12:00ish...by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Any thoughts out regarding things to help push me back into NSR yet today? I am having runs of NSR via my Apple Watch...and my heart rate is 70-90 at rest...Kind of in a holding pattern here...by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes, the PIP protocol is first on my list. My exercise is minimal however, I am fairly active...yardwork, golf, running around with the kids. Atenelol was originally prescribed to deal with moderate high blood pressure/heart rate in the context of my first three AFIB episodes...blood pressure was 125-130/85-90. Since the beta blocker, BP is regularly 115/70 with heart rate in the high 50's/lby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes, that's what the data shows. Hopeful that I can kick this down the road for another 12 years but if not, I did have a prelim discussion with the nurse today...she confirmed the 'typical protocol' would be to start an anti arrythymic plan until that no longer works and then consider an ablation...unless the medicinal path was intolerable. Just talked to my EP...since my rate is in the 80's/90's and I have having minimal discomfort (first time for this!), plus the fact that I ate a banana and a smoothie at 7:30am, they are recommending I take a 20mg Xarelto this am(left over from 1 year ago), and rest today. If the AFIB persists overnight, they will refer me for an ECV tomorrow morning at a cardiologist to avoid the ER. Tby shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am going to call my EP here this am...took an extra 50 mg of Atenelol and then laid down last night. Rate control was good and I did get some decent sleep but here it is, 7:00am and I am still out of rythym. Been here since 06...flipped into an episode tonight. Take 50 mg Atenelol in the am...rate kind of high tonight. Should I take another Atenelol and see if I self convert or should I get cardioverted right away? Had last cardiovdersion last August... Thanks!by shca67 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Thanks for the note Carey...seems my triggers are dehydration/overdoing the cocktail hour, and lack of sleep. With the success I was having, I suppose I became a little careless.
