Beta Blocker Information

Can anyone describe or point to studies as to why beta blockers work or don't work with Atrial Tachycardia, and why they would work and then stop working? I asked the EP today and he just said that your body gets accustomed to it and essentially overrides the effects by creating more beta sensitive receptors. Does that sound reasonable?

Yes, it does. That's why people who've been on beta blockers for a long time have to wean off slowly. Your body overrides it by producing more adrenaline and by creating new receptors.

Yup. At the beginning I was super sensitive to metoprolol. With time I have had to double the dose to be effective.

Have been on a beta blocker since 2006...first atenelol and then now metropolol. Still working for me with no side effects.
