This morning I finally received my Ablation appointment. June 11th This is after a long wait time of over 2 years due to some incompetence from the Alberta medical system. It was a great release of emotions when I got off the phone. The sotolol I am on has caused a 10lb weight gain in the last 4 months. They could not pin point any other reason for the gain. I walk 4 km a day and stay actiby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
What do you consider HR well controlled? I am in A Fib 6% of the time as measured by my pace maker. When in A Fib my kardia device shows rates at 144 average. When I started to have problems and not on any meds my rate would be 260 to 300( flutter?)by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotegloaming Good lord!! I'm on Vancouver Island. I was referred in Nov 21, and was first contacted by that office in February to get an angiogram. That was done on the 27th of March. Next week was my first meeting with Dr. Novak, and at the end he agreed to perform an ablation on the 27th of July. So, from referral to procedure was about 8 months. My daughter has waited two years to hby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
megan I feel for you! I have had a lot of problems lately and feel pretty down some days. My ablation is still any where from 1 month to 3 months away. Thats after waiting now for 19 months! ( Canada system is broken)by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Can not speak to the Ivabradine. When I came off amiodarone the EP wanted me to take 120mg Sotalol twice a day! This dose was to start 4 weeks after being off amiodarone because amiodarone stays in the body for a long time. I decided on my own to start with 40mg sotolol twice a day for 2 weeks and then slowly increase to 80mg twice a day. At 1 month from quitting amiodarone I stayed at 80mg in thby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM

QuoteEvelyn Thank you for sharing your story Calvin. How did you do on the sotolol? I am still on the Sotolol and I am doing OK I am in NSR 94% of the time and 6% in flutter or A Fib. The cool thing about the pace maker is they can read it and tell you the % of time you are not in Rhythm. They also read the battery life and at my 3 month checkup my battery had 13 more years of life.by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteDaisy I was getting pauses and sick sinus syndrome several years before I had a successful ablation. Getting the pacemaker was a relief but my Afib/flutter still progressed and after failing 2 antiarrythmics, the ablation was an even bigger relief. Since the time that pauses often happen is as you go back into NSR after a run of Afib, I’d think that it would be very reasonable to wait aby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotegloaming I also had long pauses, but I feel it was caused by the metoprolol. In my case, I had gone for almost three years on 12.5mg/BID. Then, my AF seemed to become more aggressive, and before long I was taking 100mg per day. I had a first ablation, but ended up in the local ER six days later feeling distinctly unwell, and in AF detected by my own GP when I went in per instructions uponby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Evelyn I am similar to you with paroxysmal A Fib with periods of flutter followed by NSR. My pauses were discovered by EKG some 3 years ago and we took a wait and see approach and tried Sotolol instead of a pacemaker. Then last spring I complained of periods of what I called black outs and it was not caught on EKG's It kept getting worse and finally during a trip to the ER they measured a nby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
The article is a bit above my reading comprehension but still interesting. My gut feeling has always been that the Sotolol that I take causes more AF events in the middle of the night. It is super rare that I have AF during the day, always at night and at least 6 nights a week. I am usually to tired to get up and take a Kardia reading at 2.30am so not sure what is actually happening.by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
My A Fib is certainly progressive. In the beginning 4 years ago the trigger was heat and extreme exercise. I nave been on meds Sotolol to slow the rate. I now go into A Fib about 6 nights a week always from 11pm to 6 am and the events last from 1 to 2 hours. My journey continues due to the poor health care system here in Canada. Basically on the ablation list for 2 years with an estimate of havinby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM

Well I am so happy to hear this from you. Mine is coming up but not so nervous as Ive had a few things done in the last few months that required being put to sleep so I think the Ablation should be as you said. I am presently on 80mg twice a day. Been on it for 2 years except for a 4 month period after my pace maker install where I was on amiodarone. amiodarone is a disgusting med so I went off it and back on the Sotalol. I go into AFib 5 or 6 times a week always at night or early morning and the sotalol keeps the heart rate lower, I stay in A Fib for only 1 hour at a time. I do have fatigue but stillby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
Taking a Kardia reading 3 times a day would just cause me a lot of stress! I do not mean to be ignorant. I have a Kardia and have not used it for 2 months now and I can feel my AFib without taking a reading. I used it in the beginning to send to my EP but he said he has seen enough and I am scheduled for an Ablation.by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
When I go into A Fib I urinate every 30 minutes and I mean a full amount, crazy as I have no idea where it all comes from! EP said this is very common. I am lucky my A Fib events only last for 1 to 2 hours.by calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hello Mary So your last ablation lasted 4 years which is a blessing to be in NSR for the 4 years. I can only speak to going back on amiodarone as I have been on it in the past and found it to be the most awful med Ive been on. The side effects were truly terrible, I believed the med was worse than the AFib. I have a pacemaker and at the last check up it was pacing 82% of the time so for me to goby calvin - AFIBBERS FORUM
