Hi Shannon! Your referral to Dr. Verma will do well and feel the confidence that Dr. Verma exhudes. He is one heck of a guy and a great doctor as well. The only issue in Ontario is the wait time, especially if you get to see the best. Dr. Verma is keeping me on a minimal dosage of Tikosyn as in Ontario the drug is free for current users and if you stop using it you cannot restart in Ontario butby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Anyone familiar with the OCEAN study on blood thinners and strokes and want to share experiences or opinions? My EP has switched me from Warfarin to Xiralto two weeks ago and has invited me to take part in this study. Part of the deal is an implanted heart monitor that records events (ANY) and downloads them via Bluetooth and WiFi each night wirelessly. Am told implant takes only a few minutes anby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Don't care if my EP uses mirrors on the end of a stick if his success rate is 99.8 percent. Makes sense to me. I have see technology fail with some pretty exciting results over the years. I don't like excitement.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
None of the fancy stuff for me. If I have a bleed I want them to be able to stop it FAST. I'm sticking to Warfare and my GP seems quite happy with that request.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
When I was in hospital for more than a day they took rectal swabs daily as the same was going around in hospital. I was fortunate not to get it but many others did.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well folks...it has been several months since my ablation. So far blessed NSR with the odd short period of skipped beats which I can feel. Have had three examinations in this blanking period but have not seen Dr. Verma. I WILL see him April 17 at the hospital/clinic and perhaps come off Tikosyn completely I hope. They did reduce my dosage from 500 mcg twice a day to 250 mcg twice a day. They mayby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

Is this the same as gabapentin? They have changed my fractured spine meds and added gabapentin here. Works like a placebo for me.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

You have golden advice here. Not to worry but....but....ensure you are being monitored by one of the best. All will be well. I assure you.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
You will get great first hand advice and experience here. And not to worry....deal with the best and you will be back to normal before you know it.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I bought two one litre water jugs at the dollar store. I fill them every morning and try to finish them by dinnertime or so. My occasional daily coffee is extra and is followed by a Starbucks vente cup of water. All at slightly less than room temp. Coffee is a treat so I only buy the very best custom roasts and gringo just before using. Never more than one. I don't want to go back to that daby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Remember it is the scar tissue that does the best blocking. I had loads of weird beats but am now a few months post ablation and.....nothing. NSR God bless Dr. Verma. I still fight fatigue and lack of oxygen due to the serious illness that brought me here and a subsequent accident that fractured my spine x 3.....but boy do I feel better. Dr. Verma and my friends on AFIBBERS gave me back my life.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for all of the good wishes my friends. I am not quite counting myself as being 'out of the woods' quite yet. Out of curiousity, is tapering off anti-arrhythmia medication a normal process? I'm not unhappy with it but justill wondering what others AFIBBERS have experienced. Oh, and as to the comment as to Dr. Verma being instantly likeable? I would have to agree that thby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well gang. 3 monthso post ablation with Dr. Verma at Southlake and he has monitored me very closely. I was over 7 hours on the table apparently. All seems well and dofetilide cut in half to 250 mcg. Am and pm. Another few weeks and he will half the dosage to 125 mcg. Then a few weeks and if all is well Tikosyn is gone. Have been in NSR since procedure. Dr. Verma is simply outstanding.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you for that caveat Ron. Funny you should mention this. I had an accident almost two years ago and they have been doing MRI's, bone mass studies, scans, CT scans, you name it... as I managed to fracture my spine in three places. Bone mass seems fine; in fact things seem to be healing on their own but I have one more CT scan booked and then will be given the option of having ONE of tby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Caucasian and "non-Caucasians" often have very different diets. Wondering if diet is being considered in the studies. In other parts of the world, the various races have diets based on what is traditional and what is available and what the cost is. In North American, we tend to eat an awful lot of less than healthy foods, much genetically modified as well. I have always tried toby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm still hesitant to take anything but rat poison (warfarin) and hope that I may come off it sometime soon. My late father had a horrible accident when he was 92 and was bleeding profusely and internally as a result. He was on Warfarin for decades. They gave him the reversal medications, the bleeding stopped and he survived. The doctors stated that had he been on the newer anticoagulantby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the heads-up indeed! Just ran out of NOW Potassium Gluconate powder, which was great as I just dumped a heaping teaspoonful into a glass of seltzer water and got my Potassium boost. I have been drinking Low Sodium Motts Vegetable Juice and LS V8; a 16oz. plastic beer cup full every day, sometimes twice a day, to get my Potassium lately and was about to re-order NOW Potassium Gluconateby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Update March 16 and about 6 weeks since ablation. All appears to be calm. I see Dr. Verma at the end of the month and I believe at that time he is going to put me on an event monitor that will record one minute before and one minute after either an autodetected arrhythmia or a button press should I feel 'anything'. Still continuing to improve daily.... I can see my SpO2 rising slowly and it is often overlooked 90. What a relief! Dr. Verma is a gem. He persisted for SEVEN hours of ablation. I was in the OR / catheter lab as they prefer to call it.... for around 8 hours. Then into recover for an hour and straight up to a CCU room where they fed me dinner. Literally. Just as a matter of interest in am advised that I was under anesthetic for SEVEN hours. Think I heard mention of 75 burns. Shortness of breath diminishing slowly day by day.... am in the "good" zone mostly now. And of course then there is the NSR.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Apologies for my absence. Still suffering some shortness of breath but it is improving daily. My heart is calm. I continue to take Tikosyn during my blanking period but the difference is that I don't even know my heart is in my chest these days. No skipped beats. No extra beats. Just sweet NSR. I am now undergoing intensive review of my spine injury which appears to be healing somewhat on itby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
If your ablation is like my recent ablation i would cancel that dinner. You would be pushing it.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Shannon. You were spot on. Likely edema. Shortness of breath continues to diminish with SpO2 generally 90+ now. I must ask the doc to include instructions on his discharge sheet. Zero ZERO salt. Tiny frequent meals. Lasix 40mg. 3 or 4 times per day. Use APAP constantly when under 90. I was lucky to have an oxygen concentrator due to my lung damage. Today as CA plus 9. Thanks everyone. It has been a long haul here as you know. The surgery on Friday was lengthy. Dr. Verma, if I recall correctly, said they did about 75 burns in my heart. I would not be surprised if all of the burns and irrigation left me with a surplus of fluid(s) contributing to my shortness of breath.
