Selenium is also an essential nutrient, supposed to prevent cancer (breast, prostate) and protect thyroid function. Recommended form is as L-selenomethionine. Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Idly poking around in curezone.com and found this description of some of the effects of mercury poisoning. "Cardiovascular, Irregular Heart Beat, Changes in Blood Pressure, Feeble or Irregular Pulse, Pain or Pressure in Chest" If you can find a competent physician to test for mercury, then there are two ways I've heard of to be rid of it, one is Andy Cutler's protocol: whiby William - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hans, Dr. West's way is for people with afib; I seem to still have psvt and the detox from accidental spill of most of a teaspoon of Lugol's was too frightening to risk repetition. psvt kills. I'm also in constant ketosis, so expect reactions to others' successful iodine might not be so good for me. Elizabeth H's post is discouraging, as I've been hoping that iodineby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie - ever negative! and you twisted my words to make a scare story. My recommendation? Not. A salt push is a tool for stopping unwanted symptoms, not starting a "perfect storm". So say those on curezone who have tried, it so says Dr. Abraham, and I tried it. It worked for me when I accidentally spilled iodine on myself and got a massive overdose which triggered an ugly and frightenby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Minerals should be in proportion, but trying to balance Na-K-I-Se-Ca-Zn-Fe is impossible for me, so I try to support the immune system that is designed for that balance. Be aware that if you take enough iodine in the protocol to do any good, there may be detox symptoms which feel like afib. Detox is what we want, and the symptoms can be stopped with a "salt push". Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Darcy and Tom B, distressing iodine detox symptoms (afib) can be stopped with a salt push; I did it after accidentally spilling some Lugol's on me. So now I know - larger doses of iodine do chase arrhythmia-causing poison out of where it is stored so it can be excreted. From: "Salt Loading Protocol for Possible Bromide Side Effects Orthoiodosupplementation induced and increased mobiliby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Please be aware of the well known phenomenon of detox. When we take enough iodine, it chases the bromine out of the thyroid. On the way out it circulates through the body and makes us feel bad, triggers heart arrhythmia, other symptoms. If the symptoms are too rough, people stop iodine for a couple of days, then resume at a lower dose and increase gradually to give the bromine time to be excretby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom B, have you tried to find out if the ectopics could be caused by bromine being chased out by iodine? Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Surprising if a thyroid could not handle an essential nutrient. That would be like being allergic to water. Most likely you had a detox reaction; that would mean that the iodine was displacing some toxic substance, which is why we take it. Detox can be very rough, so what people have done is stop iodine for a while (typically 2 days) then resume at a lower dose and increase gradually. Darcy, wby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm braver than you, Hans - I was taking a whole 6 mg/day, on skin so some is wasted by evaporation. Szent-Gyorgi said a maintenance dose should by 62 mg, and if you are trying to cure some disease more is required. Maybe people had a smaller burden of toxins to provoke detox reactions in his day. Debbie, if you look at the links I posted on the General Health section at: you will see that millions of people have had success with iodine. None of them mention food. Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dr. Albert Szent-Györgyi PhD Nobel prize winner (for discovering vitamin C) took 1 gram of iodine (probably Lugol's) daily for much of the last part of his long life. Lived to 93. Excess is normally excreted, but then, we ain't normal. Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM
According to Dr. Flechas, less than 1/2 of 1% are allergic to iodine, so they are all safe, theoretically, except Amiodarone. I use Magnascent because it has the best advertising at magnascent.com and magnascent.ca, and have had no problems and it works. Lugol's has been the most extensively tested, and seems OK. From:<; check out this I used to get heart arrhythmia's all the time. I ran across this article, and thought, "wow, I can't remember the last time I had one since I did the Iodine thing back in 2007" Its one of those things you don't think about, once you cure yourself of something and it never comes back, you just kind of forget about it. Amiodarone works, but the side effects make it too destructive (cirrhosis, fibrosis), so Dr. Flechas thought to try Iodoral, a harmless form of iodine. It works just as well, no side effects. This in the last part of a fascinating two hour talk at: Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM

I've puzzled by the odd and negative response to a breakthrough discovery (to me), until I read the following: "iodophobia within the orthoiodosupplementation range previously used safely and successfully in medical practice and iodophylia for megadoses of iodide (up to 12 g/day); 2) double standards which render those physicians intolerant to the minor side effects of the inorganic foby William - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Until ~1940 iodine was liberally prescribed by physicians, and heart disease including afib was rare. Then drugs were found to be much more profitable, so iodine was demonized, and rates of heart disease increased to where they are now. Too bad that nobody has done studies such as the above on iodine, but I'm not holding my breath. Not while Big Pharma rules. Williamby William - AFIBBERS FORUM

Jackie, your use of gluten and iodine as if they are somehow similar is so wrong that I must point out that while gluten is obviously a poison for many, and we can all live in health without it, iodine is an essential nutrient. George, I scroogled Povidone-Iodine and found that it is forbidden to use on pregnant women, as it can poison the unborn. Not for me. Hi Elizabeth; Those who take (and took for over a hundred years) enormous doses of iodine never took Iodoral AFAIK. Taking Iodoral and Synthroid at the same time is not a good idea IMO.
