I've had considerable accupuncture, and I'm sorry to say I did not see any substantial effects.by CRob - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've not seen any research; no big profits to be made from this; no patents. As for being off-beat, I think it's the other way around; these remedies were used long before drugs entered the scene and have been used successfully for certain conditions for centuries. I found meditation and breathing techniques to be helpful in reducing the anxiety that accompanies afib although I canby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Is there any reserach on things to try to stop afib like transcendenal meditation, accupuncture, etc? I was curious if anyone here has any experience trying some of the offbeat stuff.by HipLew - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Bill - welcome. It's wonderful to have more brain trust aboard. Sorry to meet under the circumstances, though. Your suggestion is certain a huge undertaking but very promising and exciting as well and I encourage you and your colleages to 'go for it'. Even though I've had a successful ablation, I'm still dedicated to helping afibbers with support and informatby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, I'm doing pretty good. I am still having trouble with my feet. Seems to be a peripheral neuropathy maybe from the Amiodarone or Cipro. Trying accupuncture now, but I'm going to switch doctors. Peteby Pete - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello All, I have been using Nux Vomica 200 power, 1 pellet SL for anxiety. It truly has helped today. Used only one. In Larsen's 2 book he says not to use Aconite. Has anyone ever had experience using Aconitum Napellus? The Materia Media says it has a short lived property and works with anxiety and .. tacyycardia.. I have it on hand but have not used it after reading the books. I juby Carol - AFIBBERS FORUM
Too simplistic and too linear. People have beeen discussing Qi for many many decades. After 20 years in private practice, this I know: Qi is easy to understand but very difficult to teach. Arthurby arthur - AFIBBERS FORUM
Despite what Qi is or how Qi is translated, I can't understand how you can say AF is deficient Qi and hypertension is too much Qi when it is a well known fact that hypertension can lead to AF. Perhaps this is why Chinese medicine can't stop AF. Franby Fran - AFIBBERS FORUM
Gregg- I would go ahead with the herbs. I am not sure where you live. If it is in the Untited States then the practitioner must be state liscensed, board cetified NCCAOM, and have experience. If not, then I would be wary. You can find the NCCAOM on line and then find an experienced practitioner. It has helped me in my overall health. Can you give me the correct concept of Qi. My understanding is that Qi flows through about 14 meridians to give energy to the organs. But I am way out of my depth here. So I can only say I sort of understand what you say but I am failing to see how the first part of your statement fits with the second part. I'm still finding it difficult to grasp the concept. Some people on the board do havby Fran - AFIBBERS FORUM
arthur, they want to try herbs next, what do you think they will recommend and what do you think of their effectiveness? when you say that accupuncture and herbs have helped you ... helped you how? as i mentioned above, i had afib when i went in for my first treatment and not only could they not stop it, i had the longest episode i have ever had. do you think this was a coincidence or could thby gregg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Fran, Qi is a concept that is least described as energy flow. It is deficient because it is not flowing correctly, it is so deficient that it can't control a regular beat. So it is out of control. Whe qi is full and strong it controls the organs in a proper way and keeps them in line. It controls the organ properly, not the organ having a mind of its own and beating any which way it wants toby arthur - AFIBBERS FORUM
Reet - Happy Birthday..... may your life only get better from here on out. Think positive thoughts. Good luck with the acupuncture continuance. That you had some results is a good sign. I wish you well. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Arthur. You said in Chinese medecine that AF falls into the catagory of " heart Qi Deficinency ". If Qi is the energy flow then is it not more possible that AF might follow as over efficient Qi. Thanks Franby Fran - AFIBBERS FORUM
Gregg, Last year I went for acupuncture quite regularly. My acupucturist said there is a strong connection between the heart & the kidneys and worked on that. She could not stop an episode, but caused my heart rate to be much lower. During the months that I went for treatment, I had far fewer episodes than I have had this year (hardly any visits to the clinic). I am starting treatments agby RK - AFIBBERS FORUM
Gregg - I had a similar experience with acupuncture and as I've said before, I did it with an MD who also had his MD in Chinese Medicine. It didn't help with the AF, nor did it stop AF when I was in it. And a couple of times, I think it actually precipitated an event. The thought was, though, to balance the energy between the sympathetic and parasympathic nervous systems so that theby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
gregg, I am an cupuncturist and Chinese herbalist for nearly 20 years with afib and high bp. Please ask for any advice you'd like. I know Chinese medicine has some things to offer. True we can't"Cure" it - we can make it better as one of the pieces of the total picture. We do diagnose it into the group known as " heart Qi Deficinency ". went in for my first assessment and treatment yesterday. by coincidence, i also had afib - almost all of my episodes happen at night so this is very, very unusual. but i thought, this might make for a good test if accupuncture can stop it. spent a good half hour going over my history and what i experience during afib and what i thought the triggers were. let me share with you the bottomline:by gregg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Arthur. Very interesting about the bitter taste being good for the heart. I've been reading up on Chinese medicine as my husband has been getting accupuncture and herbs. There is definately something to it all. I love the bitter and sour stuff. And I introduced this after my new diet regime got me over AF. I made a lovely refreshing salad the other day. If anyone else wants to try it. Must bby Fran - AFIBBERS FORUM
The reason I started taking wobenzyme was for my shoulder, which I had hurt in a most innocent fasion by reaching for my water bottle that was rolling around in the passenger side of my car. I have had 4 accupunture visits. Before visits I was having 2 episodes/week, 2 weeks ago I went 6 days between episodes and this week I have gone 7 days and no episode yet. Plus, the episode a week ago was very mild although it lasted 12 hours. I am going to continue with the accupuncture for a few more months and see what happens. The needles are very, very thin. Loren S. I had acupuncture treatments for the greater part of 2003. My acupuncturist, in whom I have complete confidence, told me that traditional Chinese medicine considers the heart and kidneys closely connected. She was therefore working on my kidneys and in general trying to get my body into balance - balance being of great importance in Chinese medicine. went to my cardio for my annual visit - told him afib getting more frequent, during last 6 months or so, have migrated to night sessions (after going horizontal) only or almost always. after reading this board and han's book, told him maybe metoprolol is not good for me. he said perhaps i should try the class 1 anti-arrythmyia drugs. i've read about bad stuff (long-term) about those aby Loren S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am presntly going for physiotherapy and receiving accupuncture treatnments for a bum shoulder. Ater six weeks of therapy that wasn't getting anywhere accupuncture was the first thing that seemed to help. I am still not golfing yet but I can finally see that it could happen. Hi Peggy The day things go quiet family wise will be the day I hang my boots up. At present I am taking each hour by the minute. I have to be on call every second and all the big long term fighting plans get changed daily. My sister is in the hospice this week getting tons of complementary treatment - hypnosis, accupuncture, aromatherapy etc. I asked her if she could get me the bed next to hers!by Fran - AFIBBERS FORUM

Jackie, My wife and I have been discussing this (chiro). but I have a crushed L-3, and I've always been gun shy of spinal manipulation for just that reason. I'm wondering how successful chiro would be, if the practitioner is limited in the amount of manipulation they can do. Thanks for the input. smby Seth - AFIBBERS FORUM
