Sally - Some seem to think that the accupuncture can 'free up' blocked meridians and therefore energy and which can, initially, cause AF. That sounds reasonable when you think about the purpose of accupuncture so it becomes a balancing act... try the treatments, ride out the AF and hope the end result accomplishes a better energy path and helps to normalize your heart. Peter My varicose veins got worse with afib and two 8 hour ablations. I guess it effects the circulation, making the varicose veins worse. I actually have venous insufficiency now. I went to an Accupucturist after my first ablation. She put warm wet clothes on my feet and ankles and a mineral lamp on my back. She also massaged my feet. They seemed to be getting better, but I could not affby christy - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom: Add another person to those who've tried acupuncture for afib without any effect on the fib/flutter. The man I consulted is also an M. D., (Internist), and an OMD. I had a series of 5 one hour sessions with him in which I got needles in my back half the time and front the other half, mainly along the heart channels. I did find some relaxation from the treatments but it was only tempby Gordon HELD - AFIBBERS FORUM

Tom - I had accupuncture by an MD who was also an OMD (Doctor of Oriental Medicine) licensed to practice accupuncture... twenty treatments... no change in afib. I thought overall, I felt better and had improved circulation in general by opening the meridians but was disappointed not to see any improvement in afib whatsoever. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom I tried it with a highly regarded accupuncturist in Australia (he treated the Prime Minister!!) He said it was unlikely to work because the AF was so long standing but I tried it anyway. It made to difference to the AF but I always felt great after a treatment. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM

I am on both flec and a beta blocker and cannot get my heart up above 120 and am much more easily put out-of-breath. It definitely started with the beta blocker which i took for about a month before going on the flec. My GP said she hears this very often from people on beta blockers. Accupuncture has helped with the out-of-breath feeling. Best of luck! jillby Jill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Joe, I tried homeopathic treatment for about six months by a very knowledgeable practicioner to no avail, craniosacrial massage with no luck, and recently tried accupuncture with no luck. I think I'm out of alternative treatments to try. I've learned the hard way through life that sometimes the hardest part of solving a problem is to correctly identify it. From this discussion I get the sense that the methods of oriental medicine are not understood very well. In oriental medicine the "condition" is perceived entirely differently from how it is in western medicine. Fibrillation is seen as a symptom of the heart that can arise from a variety of imbalances in the body. It is a different approach and cannot be evaluated by an m.d. Thank you Jackie and Emmie. After 4 months of accupuncture and herbs, I can report that I feel better and have hope that my afib will be reversed but so far not, and the side effects of sotalol remain (even at incredibly low dosages). I remember seeing a listing for an herb on this site that treated "chest tightness" and now I can't find it. Have you heard of this. Perhaps I dreaby John Caldwell - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Has anyone any information on chinese herbal remedies for AF? I recall Hans mentioned that there was something in the afib report last fall on the subject but I am not a subscriber. Maybe I should be come one. I googled the subject and found this on acacetin (extracted from xuelianhua). Does anyone here know where the Vagus nerves are loxated around the spine? My question is becuase sometimes I feel like afib can be positionally triggered (how I sit or lie) and can also be rectified the same way (change postion and it will sometimes disappear quite quickly). The reason I suspect the Vagas nerve is that several years ago I visited a Chiro and a TCM doctor (for accupuncture) aby Rick - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi All, Have any of you had any experience with "Thought Field Therapy," or "Emotional Freedom Technique," for afib? They are both the same thing. One uses a series of tapping in different places on your face, chest and hands. It is sometimes called non-invasive accupuncture. The VA taught me how to use in for ptsd and panic symptoms. To all who have or have had this problem. My Afib started on July 16th, 1990. I remember it vividly, as it scared the hell out of me. Since the valsalva maneuver can have an affect on afib, and gastric bloating, heartburn, etc., can have a negative affect on the vagus nerve, it seems external manipulation affecting the nervous system, e.g., vagus, might be possible. So I wonder if accupuncture/accupressure onto the vagus nerve could excite/deaden the ANS in a properly controlled fashion.by ArtSD - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim - I agree - great for sciatica at that is a blockage of the energy in that meridian; once that is free, it's a huge relief. I used it successfully years ago for "golf elbow". Only had about four treatments and was back in action. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had Accupuncture for over a year. It did wounders for my Sciatica. It did nothing for my AFIB. The Accupuncurest was trained in the Japanese method. How this differes from the Chinese nethod evaded me but there is a difference. She tried hard to do something for the AFIB but there was little if any effect.
