Our thoughts and prayers are with you.by Murray L - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Sorry for delay....have been preparing for surgery on hand Friday. And the kids are moving res at Universities. OSTEOARTHRITIS And thanks for the tips.... keep em coming! It would that the regular medical advice is totally useless. Why am I not surprised that most simply want to prescribe a pill and get you the heck out of their office? Well, the Subject line about sums it up. On top of all else, my wife and I are dealing with Arthritis now. It has been a while actually, but her Arthritis, at age 55, is so severe as to be dibillitating/crippling. We are located in the Greater Toronto Area (Richmond Hill/York Region) and we are looking for forum(s), advice, doctors specializing in severe arthritis, etc. Mine is more of a maby Murray L - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Strange. Even in aFib my heart rate never climbed that high, which appears to be a common rate in aFib. I always figured it was the Metoprolol that I have been taking that controlled my rate (which runs about 75 - 85 generally). I was put on it by MD unknown while in hospital on life support summer 2009 and nobody has ever desired to take me off it since then. I have had it reduced once fromby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
For me, both hyperglycemia and alcohol are triggers for PVC's/PAC's.... my heart is telling me to smarten up but not going into aFib per se. I am keeping a list of triggers and avoiding them like the plague. One of my triggers is also my sodium/potassium ratio and if I allow my potassium to drop I know I am for sure going to hear about it. So Low Sodium V8 and Potassium Gluconate powby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

Thanks for that report McHale..... it heartens (you will pardon the pun) this poor soul when news of left atrium enlargement and then reduction are heard. I am counting the days until my next examination and echo, to see where I stand vis. a vis. left atrium size and will report back to this forum when that information is in hand. I believe that for those of us with enlarged left atria, it is iby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I experience very similar symptoms when I permit my Potassium to go low; I maintain Potassium using Potassium Glucontate powder (1tsp=500mg approx) and with low sodium V8 (16 oz beer cup = 1g Potassium approx). I try to maintain my dietary Potassium intake at around 4-5g. daily this way and generally find that my 'tachy' of 100 or so BPM appears when I get lazy about my Potassium but tby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Randy: Well I certainly cannot say that I have gone through your trauma with regards to aFib although I did spend three weeks on life support as a result of H1N1 in 2009 which I am pretty sure coincided with the onset of my aFib. My aFib was stick handled back and forth until my left atrium was finally just too enlarged to make ablation a possibility and I am wondering what your left atriumby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Christy.... I will look forward to hearing more about your ablation results with your enlarged left atrium. In the meantime I remain in NSR here with aFib occasionally trying to make a breakthrough but warded off with my evil eye and Potassium infusion on those occasions. The may just be PACs or PVC's but nontheless are a big bother and an anxiety, needless to say. I have my second poby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Smoking and good health simply do not mix; it is like oil and water. As Edmontonians, I am curious as to why you did not choose to see Drs. Verma and Khaykin who have excellent reputations and results and are located in Ontario - don't know if health insurance might better apply in Newmarket and the Southlake Health Sciences Centre. I have been dealing with them and was started on TIKOSYN in December with ablation being the ultimate target. They do hundredsby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have had TWO electrocardioversions. The first done by a cardiologist that had little to no clue as to what he was doing but was "told" how to do it. The second by a cardiologist/EP that knew exactly what he was doing and insisted that I would leave the hospital in NSR. I did. What was the difference? The first simply wanted me on Warfarin for 6-8 weeks prior to ECV. That'by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for that information Christy; I suppose that my Ep is also saying the same thing to me. He would prefer NOT to do an ablation with an enlarged left atrium. I think one of the hints as to aFib was some valve regurgitation as the heart 'misformed'. He put me on TIKOSYN and they did an electrocardioversion after the sixth dose (one hour after to be exact), so they could send me hby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

God Bless TIKOSYN for those of us that tolerate it well. After a year in chronic 24/ 7 aFib, I have been in NSR since I began TIKOSYN in Southlake Regional Trauma Centre in Newmarket and an ECV. It is amazing although it does have side effects for many if not most. Mine are extremely mild and consist of a wee bit of grogginess in the AM that we cannot even connect to the TIKOSYN with any degreby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tried it. Just made great blue flames shoot out of my backside that set the carseat on fire. Set off all the car alarms in the parking lot as I walked in to the office and erased (partially at least) the taped backups from our computer system. I would seriously recommend further study before jumping right in and getting electrocuted. It's past midnight yet? Neighbor across the streeby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
In November I began TIKOSYN and have been in NSR since. At that time my Left Atrium was 59-60mm (grossly enlarged) and I was not considered a candidate for successful ablation by two EP's who trained at the Cleveland Clinic and have done thousands of them. They want me below 55mm and preferably below 50mm. The theory is that being in NSR my LA will shrink back down, making me a candidateby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

Interesting reading and very much similar to my own experience. I had to go out and buy my own oxygen concentrator as well and started at 5L/M infused into 12-18cmH2O air pressure with exhalation relief (S9 Auto II) using a full face mask. I too find that if I am going to have an attempted breakthrough of aFib it will come when I am lying down, on an empty stomache or otherwise. My pulmonologiby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good to hear from you, Cindy, after the ordeal you went through. Am happy that you are home and in NSR and hope it 'sticks' for you. I know all about hospital 'ordeals' and one day we can compare stories on the back channel. Hi gang: For my two cents worth..... let me just say this, IMHO and based on experience..... At the beginning of December I marked a year on Warfarin/Coumadim. I also marked the first bladder infection/kidney stone (?) to cause such catastrophic internal bleeding that I was rushed to hospital, hustled to the head of the line in emerg on triage and saw a doctor within 5 minutes. "Keep your stick on the ice"... reminds me of the story of the little kid who was sitting at the back of the class scratching at his privates like crazy. The teacher sent him down to the office to see the principal and, of course, a call was made to his mother about the situation. When he got back to class, the teacher noted a huge commotion at the back of the room and on inspectionby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I use a Resmed S9 Auto II with humidifier. A great Cpap/APAP machine. I also bought the heated hose as I like to sleep in a cool room and it prevents condensation. The S9 has 'brains' and reduces air pressure when you exhale. Marvellous. I use a full face mask and am so used to it now I don't even know I am wearing it at night. AND.......... bingo! Ding. Ding. I am on Tikosyn since December and in NSR.... have a few hiccups now and then but essentially full NSR but have no idea how long it is going to last. From where I sit, I would personally have an ablation myself if I was sure that it was experienced hands and a good hospital.
