I am asking this question based on curiosity. Let's just say I am asking for a friend. lol
Is taking a medicine to improve sex for a man like Viagra or Cialis dangerous to us that have afib and/or taking a drug like flecainide?
I saw on the internet if you have a serious rhythm problem to consult a doc. and I know they may lower blood pressure, so if you were on a high dose of metoprlol might be a problem.
But in general can the increased blood flow to small capillaries in the lungs etc. affect afib?

I take flecainide and have never had an event or scary episode connected with either. Only a mild headache sometimes the next morning. I even had sex when I was having a string of PVC's and they were gone by the time I was asleep. Maybe I am just lucky but I observe my heart rhythm carefully all the time. Tom Hopkins

A number of years ago, there was a frequent poster, Gunnar, from Sweeden. Gunnar is a chemist by training and profession. He had worked out a very specific protocol using Cialis to help control his afib. It is in the Conference Room archives <[www.afibbers.org]. I'm sure you can also search on Gunnar and Cialis to find posts here. {Edit} I thought the CR session was on cialis, but I didn't reread it. It is another of Gunnar's approches. Here is a search on his posts on cialis: <[www.afibbers.org]

I've never used either Viagra or Cialis. However, the time after orgasm when the heart rate is declining rapidly can be a risky period for a vagal afibber. A year or two ago, when I was (I found out later) consuming too much calcium in food, I had this issue. During this aftermath, I can feel my heart beating, which means I can also feel if the rhythm starts to get wacky. In my case, I could feel PAC's and knew if I did nothing, afib would be the result. So instead of cuddling, I'd stand up and move around, or at least get my upper torso vertical rather than prone. This usually worked, fortunately. The few times I decided to keep cuddling, I ended up in afib. I'm blessed to have an understanding partner as jumping up and running around at that moment isn't usually considered the most romantic thing you could choose to do...

As a user of PIP flecainide (on-demand) I seem to recall I successfully pretreated myself with a small dose of flec an hour or so in advance of sex, or even the night before as a preventative on some occasions.

Fortunately, reducing my calcium intake allowed my normal magnesium/potassium/taurine protocol to go back to working well, and the "risk" time after sex is no longer an issue (or almost anything else either for that matter).
