Iron deficiency and arrhythmias

I had three feet of my small intestines removed from the beginning of my duodenum onward and apparently I can’t absorb iron. I now suspect my constant iron deficiency has lead to all my afibs and now PVCs. I was against getting iron infusions and when I finally did two years ago my heart became calm. Of course I can’t be a Monday morning quarterback but I am kicking myself. I could had save potentially many ablations, especially my AV node ablation.

My ferritin has dropped from 100 to 34 because my GP refused to approve infusions. He told me I would die. My current GP was so much against me getting iron that he cancelled two appointments and told me because I had tightening of my throat in the states during the infusions, he was against it. I did get steroids and Benadryl the states and was fine for the remainder of my infusions.

This past month my ferritin dropped to 20 and I insisted on the infusions. I had two so far (with 20mg prednisone and Benadryl) and had no reactions.

Out of curiosity I just googled iron anemia and arrhythmias and found many hits. Here is one link above. This is a public service post. Ask for a ferritin lab test and see a hematologist if it’s low.

Thanks, Susan. I'll keep that in my coaching info along with electrolytes and the other possible triggers.
