I've successfully used GoLytely as a colonoscopy prep. Here is the prescribing info:by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've used Golytely successfully in rhe past, and its covered by Medicare. Last time I used SuPrep liquid and found I could almost set a clock by its start and stop action. This was 3 years ago and it wasn't covered by Medicare then so my insurance copay was $100 and was well worth that.by ggheld - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Anne, see Jackie's post on this topic here. I've successfully used the Golytely product she mentions in the post, which has extra electrolytes.by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM

QuoteCarey I would suggest coconut water instead. Is this for the potassium? If so, couldn't you take water with potassium gluconate powder mixed in (for those that don't like coconut water)? Travisby tvanslooten - AFIBBERS FORUM
Patrick, I so appreciate your question at this time as I too have Afib and have been postponing my much-needed colonoscopy due to the effects of electrocytes with the prep! Most afibbers avoid anything that would trigger an episode that could end with a trip to the ER! Again, thank you for your question, as I too got answers that I have needed. I will ask for the GoLytely and drink plenty of Coby katcannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

My GI doctor likes a full bottle of miralax but my last was 10 years ago so he might had changed his protocol. I’m way overdue. I usually in the past take with coconut water like Casey suggested. Is there a concern for the overall natural sugar content? I happen to love coconut water but I found in my past AF episodes, there was a pattern for me, in a spike of high glucose in my labs. Fair enough George, In review of your points above, I agree, the topic does have enough relevance to AFIB to remain on the Afibbers forum. Initially, it looked to me like it was mostly another colonoscopy thread, which while important for sure, would often warrant posting in General Health were it not for the focus on the electrolyte/AFIB question that I initially overlooked. Thanks a lot for the information everyone. I think I will insist on the GoLytely. Also I will contact the electrophysiologist because I thought he was supposed to communicate with the gastro doc, but perhaps he (electro) is not aware of the difference between GoLytely and Miralax.by Patrick - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey And if you do take Miralax don't take it with Gatorade or any other sports drink containing food coloring. Water only. GoLytely is mostly the same as Miralax in that it has the polyethylene glycol. But Miralax doesn't have the electrolytes that GoLytely does. I don't think you'll get the same effect using just Miralax alone. I would ask for the GoLytely. I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy. I have AFIB and was reading on this forum that I should take GoLytely for my bowel prep. My doctor told me to take Miralax/Dulcolax. I asked him about taking Golytely because of my AFIB and he told me that Miralax/Dulcolax is the same thing and I don't need to take Golytely. I just wanted to ask about this here...is this the case? Thank you!by Patrick - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tell the gastro’s nurse about the AF history and request the GoLytely prep solution.by wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
You’re welcome. Let us know if you’re able to get the entire GALLON of GoLytely down. I couldn’t. Threw in the towel at 3/4 of a gallon, but that was enough to get the job done. It’s definitely electrolyte sparing but there is a LOT of it. Yuck.by wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
I used the Movie Prep for my Colonscopy. I spoke with my doctor about AFib and she discussed the electrolyte issue. I just made sure I drank lots of Pedialyte and Gator aid to replenish the electrolytes lost. I did great. For me the GoLytely was too hard to get down....but which one isn’t.by lds001 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ken - actually, it's the rapid depletion of electrolytes... thus the name GoLytely... is electrolyte sparing. I learned about this after the colonoscopy prep put me in arrhythmia many years ago. Had to cancel the appt. So, then I learned about GoLytely and used that safely and successfully for a very long time until the GI doctor told me I could go 6 - 8 years without further evaluatby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotemwcf What Wolfpack says. Worked for me 2 years ago. That said,,I understand that it is increasingly being done by CT scan these days so as to be less invasive. You could try asking about that? I certainly will be next time I have one. Just did a CT in Aug. still have to prep. Among other things, they had me use mag cut.. 11 years ago, used GoLytely as Wolfpack suggests.by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
You ask for the GoLytely brand. Tell the GI doctor or nurse about your AF history.by wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jennifer, Get the GoLytely and force it down the best you can. I didn't have any problems with it as far as arrhythmia is concerned. As for the anasthesia, you'd have to ask that beforehand. I'd call them right away if you want a different option than the pretty much standard propofol. If you wait until the day of the procedure then you'll probably just get bumped to a lateby wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
Had the procedure today. No problems to report. I could only get about 2/3 of the GoLytely down. Tastes like seawater.by wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wolfpak - I learned about GoLytely many years ago when I was required to have an annual colonoscopies because a couple of polyps were found and removed so they were 'watching' to be sure. Back then, they always prescribed the GoLytely type bowel prep...(drinking the large quantity of liquid prior to.) Then, the 'new and improved' prep came out and that's what I was prby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
GoLytely is what they gave me. I didn't specifically ask for it, but I did tell the nurse about my AF history so maybe that's why.by wolfpack - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wolf, When I had mine 10 years ago, I asked for GoLytely at the suggestion of Jackie. See search here < It is electrolyte sparing as I recall. I was able to take dissolved mag, too. I asked not to have a general, but conscious sedation. All went well. I'm due for another and as I now fast 22 hours a day, and have fasted as many as 7 days, the fasting part will be no big dby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Barb. Just a quick comment. I can relate to your experience since I had been having routine colonoscopies since the age of 50 without incident, until I also became an afibber at age 59. I don't recall at what age the bowel prep process caused me to go into Afib, but that did happen and I had to cancel my appointment and deal with the AF. After that, the doctor prescribed the prepaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

I certainly hope you don't have to test it again, but if you do and it works repeatedly, that's perfect. Others, may find it effective as well.
