Quotejpeters Yes, Thousand Oaks. Maybe you just need a touch up ablation. Many posters don't like Digoxin. Diltizem works pretty well lowering the pulse. Sorry about your dilema regarding being an athlete. A lot of athletes get afib, although I'm sure that's no consolation. What about Digoxin do they not like?by Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all and thank you in advance for your knowledge, experience and generosity! I had an ablation 7.5 years ago and was afib free up until a couple months ago. I started having PAC’s and a couple afib lite episodes that didn’t last very long. Yesterday morning as I bent over to pick up something I went into full afib mode. Lasted 11 hours. Went to the emergency room after about the 4th hour. Tby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteJoe I had the same effect of metoprolol as the previous two members. I stopped taking them because of the horrible tiredness. The cardiologist prescribed Sotalol instead and that worked much better for me. He did recommend 80mg 2x/day but i soon cut that to 40 mg/day and after 1 year and reducing it further i stopped taking all drugs. The Metropolol is really not a great drug for me. QuoteCarey In other words do you think the SVT ablation made your afib worse or do you think it was just time. It's extremely unlikely that an SVT ablation would make afib worse. There isn't really a mechanism by which that could happen. The fact is that people with SVT tend to progress to afib eventually. The two probably share a common underlying basis. What Carey said!by Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotemjamesone Thanks for the clarification Steve. Just two follow ups. Do you think the SVT ablation caused the afib or did you have afib prior to the ablation. Also, would you recommend that I first do an SVT ablation and at a later date do an afib ablation if that becomes a problem, or would you suggest I have both the SVT ablation and afib ablation at the same time. Thanks. Jim I had afiby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotemjamesone Hi Steve, Forgive my lack of understanding in this topic, but if I understand you correctly, they found both afib and SVT during your first ep study and only decided to do a SVT ablation? If that was the plan why were they poking around in the left side of the heart to induce afib if they were just going to do an SVT ablation? Lastly, do you think the SVT ablation made your afib woby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
I’ve had both ablations. SVT first, then afib many years later. The SVT ablation procedure is a piece of cake compared to Afib ablation procedure. They discovered the afib during the SVT ablation. Many may disagree, but living with afib is a lot easier than SVT. If it were me, I’d get the SVT ablation as soon as possible. I am in LA, so cannot help you with finding an ep doc, sorry. Good luckby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you all for the great responses! I am seeing my cardiologist in a week. I will discuss it with him then, but not hopeful as I find most doctors are not sympathetic to real world issues. They prescribe, it works, but they don’t seem to care about any other consequences. One thought is to just take my morning dose after I exercise. Or half the dose. Oh, if it matters, I am taking 50mgby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all, Since having my afib lite episodes, my cardiologist has put me on Metropolol, the beta blocker. It’s worked 100% to keep me out of afib, but it’s had a profound negative effect on my ability to cycle. My heart rate has dropped about 25 bpm. My heart rate has always been pretty low ( max at about 145-150 ) but now I can’t get it above 110. I haven’t really pushed myself above this as I’by Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteKen socalsteve, Good doctor, excellent fitness, good health (no prescriptions), age 73, plus magnesium, potassium, and taurine to prevent ectopics, but in lesser quantities than most commonly recommended here. I had afib for 11years (5 undiagnosed), with two to three episodes per month. Thank you so much! Sounds like you have a winning formula! Good luck! Steveby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteSueChef Hi, Steve, I'm in So Cal too, and with Kaiser. If you don't mind, who did your ablation, and at which facility? At this point, I'm gathering information about Kaiser electrophysiologists, and while I'd love to have Dr. Natale, that's not possible with Kaiser. Thanks! QuoteGeorgeN I’m very confused. You think rock climbing and skiing for 6-7 hours at a time is not chronic fitness? Makes my 60 mile bike ride seem like a stroll in the park. Please explain.! Steve, I have a sense of how much is too much for me. I'll give examples. A year or two ago it was a powder day (I was skiing in the Rockies at 12,500'). QuoteGeorgeN I turned 60 and rode my bicycle 60 miles on my birthday. So, pretty healthy for being 60. So there can be several paths to afib, in my opinion. One is with a lot of co-morbidities (BP, CVD, obesity, diabetes & etc). The other is chronic fitness. Over the years a lot of those who are chronically fi and end up heret, wonder why their heart is having issues. I note thatby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotewolfpack It depends on who did the ablation. Operator skill level matters. Some fail after the 3 month blanking period, others go a decade or longer. Mine was 3 years ago. I had a breakthrough in April this year, which I would also describe very much as "a-fib lite". Nothing since then. No drugs at the moment. Honestly, if I had to guess I'd say this is what a pulmonary veiby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all, First time poster. Thank you all in advance for your great knowledge and generosity! I had an ablation for Afib 7.5 years ago. It was 100% successful in keeping my heart beating normally until about a month ago when I started having episodes back into Afib. But kind of felt like Afib lite. Not nearly as intense and the episodes didn’t last nearly as long. Got scared, went to cardiolby Socalsteve - AFIBBERS FORUM
