Hi - I have had AFIB for several years. It is mostly controlled by flecanide at this time. I have always had some skipped beats here and there throughout my life. However, for the last three or four days I have had almost constant skipped beats. It's a beat-skip, beat-skip or sometimes 2 beats and then a skip. My pulse rate is slow , 60-70. It mostly bothers me at night. I have been carby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I saw the cardiologist (EP) today and he said that ablation works 80% of the time. He said that in that 80%, 20% have to have a second "touch up". My question is does that mean 20% completely don't work?by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I saw the cardiologist today. He does not keep track of how many ablations he has done. He does about 100 a year, for 10 years. It would be him who does the surgery, not a fellow. He was very personable - sees no hurry for mine because the flecainide is controlling it right now. If I start getting episodes again I can call and schedule it. I am going to look into what my insurance will pay forby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My AFIB has increased in frequency and I have a consultation with a cardiologist. This is just a consultation. I am not jumping in to anything yet. Can someone point me to a post or report about how to choose an EP?by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I just posted about a tick bite that caused severe dehydration and the onset of much more frequent episodes of afib than I had been having before. I am taking nattokinnase and have not started eliquis yet and am trying to decide. I had blood work done a couple of days ago for clotting times, but I don't know how to interpret the results.by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi - I don't post a lot but have been a member of this forum for many years. I am 66 and have had afib for about 15 years. My mother had afib and died from a hemorrhagic stroke. I have been doing the supplements and try to keep a fairly low salt diet. My afib attacks are usually every 4-5 months, and since I got on flecainide as a pill in the pocket a year ago, the episodes have only lastby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am very recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and my numbers are already nearly within normal range for a normal non-diabetic person but I did that with a very low carb diet. I am just beginning to read the books that George recommended, but it already looks like I may have brought on the diabetes with my low sodium diet. (I was only a little over weight, and had a good diet and exercised aby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My afib is not exercise induced, but I love this hawthorn berry idea. Are you taking it in pill form or tea? How much? I would much rather experiment with herbal solutions than follow my quack cardiologist.by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
George I have downloaded the books you refer to. I am convinced about the salt but I feel like I am completely starting over now. I had done the low salt diet, potassium supplementation, taurine, magnesium, etc which has kept the afib episodes to three or four times a year. I've never eaten much salt, never salted my food, ever. I don't know how much to start with, and I don'tby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Do you still supplement with potassium and if so, how much? What should the ratio be of sodium to potassium for someone on a low carb diet?by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you again George. I had no idea how the low carb diet would affect me. I have been very carefully limiting salt. I am still in afib - about 17 hours now and will call the doctor in the morning.by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, do you mean 5 grams of sodium per day, or 5 mg? That sounds like a huge amount.by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you George. This is very helpful. I have been on a very low salt diet for a couple of years now. My profile says I have been on this forum for two years, but in reality it has been at least since 2012. I track everything on My Fitness Pal and my sodium is usually between 400 and 600 mg a day. I track the potassium I consume and then at the end of the day take enough supplement to put itby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm fasting 16 hours - so through the night and then until 16 hours have passed so usually around noon. I always supplement postassium and magnesium, taurine, etc.by jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
My afib episodes seem to be getting closer together and longer. My last one was 9-27-17 and lasted 44 hours. I had an ECG (to confirm) and then was given flecainide 50 mg. It ended three hours after I took it but seemed like it was about to stop anyway. I woke up at 6 am in AFIB this morning (11-5-17) and took the flecainide immediately (chewed it). I also took my BP med, atenolol. It'sby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi - I have been on this forum for many years and you guys have kept me going through lots of things that I never posted about. I appreciate you all so much. As far as AFIB, goes I have actually been really lucky. I went all through 2016 with no attacks. Usually I have them two or three times a year. I went on an extremely low sodium diet a while back which has helped and also really helpedby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am scheduled for my first colonoscopy on April 6. I have been following this forum for many many years and have successfully limited my afib attacks to a few times a year. This last year I had one in march 2016 and then one in March 2017, so doing really well in my opinion. However, this colonoscopy is scaring me to death. I have gone on a very low sodium diet which seems to really limit thby jennifer92151 - AFIBBERS FORUM
