I hear/feel my pulse 24 hours a day. I think I have always been aware of it. Just sitting here typing this message I can feel it chugging away nice and slow and steady (approx 60bpm, although it drops to about 40 over night). My blood pressure is good. I don't mind it, I just thought it was normal. If I exercise or have to speak in public I feel my heart really pound. When I really thinkby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Will Another Kiwi here, I haven't been on this forum for ages, but just spotted your thread. I can hear my pulse, heart pounding when sitting or standing still. I think I've had this all my life, just thought it was normal. I've been told it is pulsatile tinnitus, as I "hear" my blood pumping blood past my ears. If I block my ears with my fingers, so you get thatby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
In terms of the role of the thyroid releasing calcitonin, I have hypotherydism (low functioning thyroid) and elevated TSH levels. I'm on levothyroxine. Does a low functioning thyroid therefore release less calcitonin? That's would be a contributing factor to AF. Am I reading that correctly? Thanks Blakeby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Mtwomey Just to pick up on your comment that you don't have to feel your pulse - you can feel it at any time - I too when sitting or standing quietly can "hear" my heartbeat - Pulsatile tinnitus. Being able to hear my heartbeat is both comforting when I'm in normal rhythm but very disconcerting when I'm in AF. When lying in bed at night with normal rhythm, heby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for letting me know. I'll stop the voltaren. How about Ibuprofen (Nurofen)? Is that a trigger? How about Paracetamol? I'm 20 days post my first ablation and no sign of AF yet, or any other flutters or abnormal beats. Early days but I'm feeling good. Thanksby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks everyone for their prompt replies. In terms of a link, as the vagus nerve is involved with AF, do the various nervous systems work in isolation or are they linked? Does the sciatic nerve simply just run straight up the spine to the brain? Also the reason I mentioned that I take dichlofenac, is there any risk of anti inflammatory meds to AF, or incompatibility issues with Flecanideby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all Does anyone out in the AFibbers community get Sciatica pain? Approx every 6 weeks I get Sciatica to the point that it is painful to walk. I have a few exercises/stretches that give some relief that were given to me by the physio. I normally take dichlofenac (brand name Voltaren), an over the counter medication from the Pharmacy. Normally the Sciatica pain resolves within 24-48 houby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Robert I'm across the "Ditch" in New Zealand. I am a 51 year old male, and had my first AFib episode approx. 2 years ago. My Afib appears to be linked to stress. I am a farm manager, fairly fit, weigh 70 kg, active. Last year, my wife's mother, who had terminal cancer and Parkinsons disease came to live with us. I have no regrets opening our house to the motheby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kia ora Just been reading the info sheet for my upcoming procedure. The surgeon does either Cryo or RF. I haven't had my pre op meeting with the surgeon yet, so yet to find out which procedure they are planning. It's only a day procedure. I have to take a blood thinner 1 month leading up to the op. Thanks Mac What is exactly is RF? Can you give an explanation or I can Google RF and Dr Natale. I have to admit I am somewhat nervous about the Ablation. For me there seems to he a clear link between stress and going into AF. Since developing this condition 2 years ago (I had never heard of AFib), I have learnt to manage stress a lot better, to the point that I can go months without AF, so myby KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi I'm in Taranaki. I've been going to the cardiology unit at Taranaki Hospital. The operation is going to be at Waikato Hospital. What part of the country are you in?by KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi all Just joined this forum, I'm looking for a bit of support and advice. I'm in New Zealand. I have been experiencing occasional Afib for past 2 years. I get an afib episode randomly, typically monthly, but can go 2 or 3 months with no issue. Seems to be stress related. I have been in emergency department at hospital 4 times in the last 2 years as a precaution if it doesn'by KiwiBlake - AFIBBERS FORUM
