As always here, thank you all much for your feedback. Much appreciated!by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
A more procedural question regarding ablation. During my EP visit last week when it was agreed we would proceed with the procedure, I forgot to ask two questions, so I asked via the patient portal, set up for non-emergency messaging with physicians in the Medical School related practice. The questions and his response are below. I understand he is the physician and I am not a physician. I lby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, thanks to both you and Pompon for your responses. I do realize some things: 1) This is an approach that obviuosly works well for the vast majority of people so that is a logical path initially for the med community to follow. 2) I have an underlying disease that exists (Afib), is not caused by a beta blocker per se, and needs to be addressed and fixed if possible. 3) I also realizeby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
I know this is a question for my own physicians but wanted to see if anyone here knows the answer. Something I fail to understand: Why are beta blockers almost always used as a first line maintenance med in the treatment of paroxysmal Afib in otherwise heart healthy persons with a lower than normal heart rate already? Isn’t there a theory that with a lower than normal HR (<60), ectopic beaby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey, thanks for the response and explanation. I'm not actually pursuing taking Fleccanide just curious why she is so opposed to it. All my tests, stress, echo, etc. are perfect and my Afib, while present, is asymptomatic. But I guess I do understand her logic now. After the MI in 2011 I had a follow-up annual check up with the Cardiologist who did the stent for 2 years afterwards. Iby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Has anyone with previous heart issues been successfully or unsuccessfully prescribed Fleccanide as an anti-arrhythmia med? I had a mild MI in 2011 with a stent placed to fix. No damage to heart and was back on full weight lifting and endurance training within 10 days as per Cardiologist approval. No loss of ejection fraction or structural damage at all. Fast forward 10 years and develby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
I email my ECG to myself from within the app. I than open the PDF on my wide monitor PC and manually count the blocks in the QT interval width on Lead II. I do this for 3 randon readable intervals and take the avg. Multply that by 40 for the QT interval total. I then use the Bazett formula for QT corrected: QTc = QT/√RR where RR = HR/60 this formula is valid when HR is between 60 - 10by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Has anyone ever used their KardiaMobile 6L device to measure QT intervals on Lead II (2) ? What I measured on mine at home was pretty close to the computer-generated number several hours later on the ECG at my EP’s office. The EP office does wholeheartedly support use of KardiaMobile 6L in general, but the PA there told me it was known to be not always accurate for QT interval measurements.by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, Thank you for the response. You may have just hit upon an anomaly I have experienced for many years. For the past 20 years with weightlifting and mountain biking I have tried almost every type of diet that comes along and some I have made up myself. Not really trying lose weight. Mostly trying to gain muscle mass and/or change body mass composition and improve strength/performanby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good afternoon, wanted to give an update on things since my original post in early October 2021. First, much thanks to everyone who responded both via this thread and via messages directly to me. George, thanks for the additional information. At this point most of what you are discussing is way over my pay grade of knowledge but I am in learning mode going forward. However, after reading your info above, I just read this on a MTB fitness website: "There are three different energy systems that are used in any activity (including mountain biking). They are the aerobic, glycolytic,by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
George thank you for the information and your insight. Early on, I didn’t really think about the over-training aspect until I read “The Haywire Heart”. It may not be the whole puzzle for me but probably has to be a significant part of it due to the fact that this didn’t start until I basically doubled the amount of training I was doing this time last year. I was just amazed and ecstatic thatby MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Joe. Sodium typically hangs right at 138. Probably because of the HCTZ. Given that, I would have thought it would be keeping my potassium lower also. However, with a many year history of treatment for hypertension, I have always tried to limit sodium intake and increase potassium intake.by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just discovered this forum. Some great information here. Also am new to Afib. Let me say upfront that after doing some initial research (Google) I suspect it is unlikely I will discover a simple self-administered solution to this very complicated, multi-faceted condition. Also, I apologize up front for the long post. I have a couple of questions I can’t seem to find the answer to anywhere,by MarkL - AFIBBERS FORUM
