My EP increased my dose of 50m Metoprolol a day to 2x daily. For the last 5 days my heart rate has stayed under 100. My question is Can you still be in flutter with a heart rate at 75?by merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have paroxysmal afib. The cardioversion brought it to normal rhythm for 2 months, then back to afib.by merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm amazed at your courage to travel with the condition that you have described! My afib has been going on for 5 days with heart rate of 118bpm and I don't even dare to drive a car for fear of dizziness and my blood pressure at 80/60 I fear passing out at the wheel.by merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey I take50mg Metoprolol once a day and 1/2 of Metoprolol TAR 25mg for breakthru afib if my bp systolic is greater than 100 and my heart rate is higher than 110bpm. My blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal my entire adult life. With this med it drops. For the last 4 days my heart rate has been between 103 to 118 bpm with blood pressure anywhere from 80/60 with 103bby merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotewolfpack Yeah, my cardiologist prescribed me 25mg of metropolol, but I was scared of dependency or side effects. I also didn't know if it was safe/effective to start and stop it as needed, like a PIP. Metoprolol is a giant “nothing burger”, especially in low doses. Don’t be afraid of it. It’s not habit forming, doesn’t require ramp-up or ramp-down, and you can easily use it PIP. Thby merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had the TEE before my first cardioversion its not bad at all. The put me on Xarelto which seems to have fewer side effects as time goes on. I have been on it since June of this year. I was only on it about a week before the cardioversion.by merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you all ever so much for your responses.Carey's explanation of the need and separate issues for a beta blocker as well as an Ace inhibitor makes sense which ,by the way my cardiologist did not bother doing. He simply said if you don't want the Ace inhibitor that's up to you. His manner is somewhat abrupt and impatient. I'm sure he knows his stuff otherwise he would noby merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you for your reply. All of this has come at me a bit out of left field and I am really spooked. I had a mitral valve repair at age 53 in 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic ( done by the big guy himself - Toby Cosgrove) which was successful with no meds given following. Until 2016 my yearly echocardiograms showed the repair to be intact. My underactive thyroid is under control with Levothyroxinby merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was diagnosed with paroxysmal afib in June, put on metoprolol and Xarelto, and given a cardioversion. It restore rhythm for 2 months. It seemed to raise the LVejection fraction from 30% to 42. The cardiologist wanted to add an Ace inhibitor to my med to possibly raise it to 55%. In October an EKG showed me in bradycardia, the Ep gave me a 3day heart rate monitor which showed afib 87% of theby merri - AFIBBERS FORUM
