Is there any data on ubiquinone (regular CoQ10) being a possible afib trigger in some people? Also I am interested in any information on ubiquinone and how it interacts with anti coagulant therapy, in my case low dose ASA 81mg daily. I have been taking 300mg of ubiquinone daily for about 10 years for migraine prevention. I can't really say it has helped my migraines but I still take it,by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been taking Topamax for migraine prevention since December with no adverse effect on my afib. I noticed my heart rate sped up a bit when I first started taking it but that has not been a problem. My afib has been well controlled (have been in NSR) since I started on Sotalol 80mg twice a day last Sept.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
My advice would be to not draw such a rigid line in the sand with your last statement of what your only real goal is. I refer to the thread posted by Keith Ritchie a month or so ago: To summarize (we have been in contact by phone) he had 3 ablations and was doing really well but was still on daily flecanaide and had what he felt were too many ectopics. He was cycling 6,000kms a season and wby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
$26 for 4oz for D-Ribose as a sports drink? I don't think so, regardless of what it might do. I am going to stop the cytomax for a week and see if there is any effect on the PVC's and ectopics. Mine seem to occur many hours after exercise. I hadn't been using it for almost 4 months and have been using it daily for a month and to tell you the truth I have felt great this last mby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for pointing out the guarana. I cut out caffeine in September after my last cardioversion about when I started sotalol and have not had afib since although I think that has more to do with the sotalol but you never can be too careful. I miss my 2 cups of espresso or cappuccino but not that badly. I only started using Cytomax again in January because my can ran out so I hadn't usedby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
My favote sports drink is Cytomax Performance Drink. It's in another class than the commercial stuff like gator ade that feels like it can burn a hole in your gut. Plus even if it does squat for the afib (hopefully altitude won't trigger) it will give you lots of energy to enjoy your ski trip. It's great stuff.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've gone to the ER in horrible afib (in the middle of the night) after waiting quite a while for it to self convert and by the time I got there I was in NSR. It happeend to me a few times. I have also gone and not self converted and got zapped lol. Maybe instead of a PIP we should go outside with a hummingbird feeder in our hands. I can't get them to drink from our feeder when itby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie are you suggesting that Hans should be my treating physician?by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
The majority of mine happened in the middle of the night, although I had one or 2 during the day and early evening, almost always when I was doing "nothing" never during exertion. Post Edited (01-29-10 17:51)by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Don't know what to tell you. For me when I get afib it's completely different from the weird beats. So far on Sotalol I haven't had afib, at least that I know of and I usually know the moment I go into afib and the moment I go out of it, unless on sotalol it masks it. I am seeing my cardiologist in March for the first time since I started it since September. He tells me he goesby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I started sotalol unsupervised at home, same dose as you. I even called my cardiologist after I read the product information saying it should be started in a hospital. He said in my case it did not have to be started in a hospital since I had a normal echo cardiogram and had a healthy heart. I had been on another beta blocker before sotalol (not for afib control) so I haven't really noticby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I take 81mg enteric coated asa daily both for general heart health and for stroke prevention. If I go into afib I take 650mg enteric coated asa although my cardiologist says 325 is probably enough. He also says that 81mg daily is also enough given that I am taking it for life. I have been taking low dose ASA for 20 years with no adverse effects. Eveyone is different though. Just make sure ifby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I gave up all caffeine after my last bout of afib and cardioversion in September and so far so good. Also switched from nadolol (which wasn't being used for rate control) to Sotalol at that time and it has helped I think. No idea if it has been the caffeine, sotalol, a good run prior to my next episodes. Can't say I miss it much even though I really made good espressos and capas. Iby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
> I thought that staying on meds long-term to slow the heart rate > can also damage the heart. How frustrating this condition is! I never heard of this. I have been on Sotalol since September and was on Nadolol for 3 or 4 years before that (for migraine prevention) and my cardiologist considers me at low risk for heart disease and my lone afib a nuisance.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I would think Victoria is similar to Ottawa in that it has a healthy lifestyle and nice pace of life but with better weather and ocean and mountains. Why not move there if you could? I live in Ottawa.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Funny about the coQe10 and migraines. It was the first thing my neurologist prescribed to me try to prevent migraines. I have been on 300mg daily (with fish oil for many years). It hasn't helped much with my migraines but I still take it because I also take a low dose statin. I had the migraines well before I started taking the CoEq10 so that for sure is not what is causing mine. For thby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I understand what you are saying about exercise and fitness risk/reward etc. but I have to add one thing to the equation. People who train hard develop an addiction to training/exercise/fitness whatever label can be attached. Part of the addiction is the endorphin repsonse from training. I have eliminated alcohol (migraines) and caffeine (afib) and these were big things in my life. I was notby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I live in Ottawa and am on a waiting list to see an EP at the heart institute for a 2nd opinion. My cardiologist (also at the institite) is conservative and is not suggesting ablation, he just wants another opinion on my case. Are you still in Ottawa? Hope you see improvements. In my case Sotalol has helped me quite a bit since I started it in September.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've been taking magnesium coeq10 B2 fish oil for years.by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Peggy I'll keep that in mind. I want to get my diagnosis more established and my long term treatment established before changing things. I still get crazy beats, missed beats, extra beats, occasional runs of tach, all have been documented, none of which seem to concern my cardiologist. As long as I am not in afib I feel fine, just a but squirrly wondering if my sometimes crazy beats meanby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
The 2nd time I was cardioverted (3 times so far) the resident who was doing all the work with me was convinced that I was having atrial flutter not afib. He wrote that in his emerg report. When I showed it to my cardiologist along with the printouts from the monitors he said it was afib not flutter and that the resident got it wrong. The cardiologist is not an EP but is is a senior guy at theby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have given up all alcohol due to migraine and now coffee and caffeine (afib) and it's tough, but if it's the price to pay for feeling good then it's worth it. You should see the cellar I have in the basement that I haven't touched in about 5 years other than to open a bottle on someone's birthday and maybe have a sip. You get used to it if you feel good, or if partakiby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wow Tony that's a scary story. I don't know about you, but when I am in afib I feel horrible. What have you been given to prevent clots/stroke? Asprin or warfin/coumadin? I have been cardioverted 3 times in 12 months but only after being in afib for several hours. That was enough for me. When I am in afib my heart rate goes through the roof and I feel like I am going to pass out aby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been on 80mg Sotalol twice a day since September and it has really helped me. I asked my cardiologist about the difference between vagal and adrenergic and he didn't seem to think it was important. Most of my afib episodes have occured at night while doing nothing or in bed. I have had my crazy heart rhythms recorded every which way, in ER hooked up prior to cardioverison, in afibby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't know if my experiences will help but I guess more information can't hurt. I think my afib is vagal. When I asked my cardiologist he wasn't interested in differentiating between different forms of afib (I have lone afib that he was clear about). My events have occurred in the middle of the night (usually although not exclusively) or while sitting around doing nothing streby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have a question for researcher about the study he linked to. Are the number of procedures per year quoted by institution/hospital/clinic or by individual doctor?by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well everyone is different and has had different advice and experiences. I have been told to go to the ER after 3 or 4 hours of afib to get cardioverted with the paddles. The IV drugs have not worked twice in the past. A few times I have self converted on the way over to the ER. In those cases they do a quick EKG and send me home. One ER doctor told me she tells her afib patients that if theby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
So how did things turn out?by BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
Trip to the ER for peace of mind (hopefully) wouldn't be a bad idea. I have been there many times with afib and sometimes mine has self converted on my way over. Even my cardio says better to play it safe. I get elevated heart rates (HR's) all the time that aren't afib, usually after exercising. Have worn holtors, loop monitors etc. Doc's aren't concerned since they cby BaadDawg - AFIBBERS FORUM
