Any time I have a question I send a copy of the Kardia rhythm strip to my EP. He usually gets back to me in a day or two with a reading. Is that possible?by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Does anyone use a Garmin watch with ECG app? I currently have a Garmin instinct that I use for sports. I also have a Kardia device to take a ecg rhythm strip if I feel that I am in afib. I am thinking of getting one of the Garmin watches that have the ECG app but since they are very expensive I was hoping to get a review from an actual user. I don't go with an apple watch because the Garby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
So sorry you are going through this. I struggled with anxiety post my first ablation. I was put under anesthesia but things did not go well and I had multiple complications post ablation. I ended up seeing a therapist to help me deal with all the anxiety and I was having pretty severe shortness of breath that slowly improved but it took about a year. I would see a different EP. I just had a sby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the responses. Just to be clear, I snowboarded all day the day before my ablation surgery, I am taking it easy post ablation. There are a lot of opinions out there and I believe that you cannot be fully informed unless you consider all options. Yes I realize that Dr Mandrola is an outlier in some of his thinking but I learned a little something from all the various Doctors that I sby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I discovered this forum after my first ablation in 2017. In May 2017 I had a Cryoablation with Dr. Daniel Beyerbach at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. The journey leading to the ablation was a difficult one. I developed Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation while training and doing endurance running races, marathons and 50 k's. The first step was to put me on warfarin and Flecinide. The fleciniby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes.. going to reduce to half marathons. After these next 2. I’m 62 and episodes at this point are short duration, 5-10 min. With a resting heart rate in the 50’s anything above about 110 at rest causes symptoms like SOB and anxiety. Counting my blessings it’s not worse. Thanks.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was pretty active in this forum in 2018 following my Cardiac Cryoablation with multiple complications and being then put on Amiodarone. Long story short I quit all alcohol, started Magnesium and Taurine and quit my obsessive running (I was training for a 50k when afib first started becoming a burden for me). I went off Amiodarone and Eliquis (after having black smelly, loose stools) and have bby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good question Carey?? I don’t know the answer. Not all EP’s are skilled at what they do. What should have been a simple procedure wasn’t. ??by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
My ablation in 2017 was done by cryoablation. The EP I went to said he was very experienced (they can tell you anything. Ask for numbers!) One thing that we didn’t discuss prior to ablation was the dye that was used to make sure that the cryo-catheter Balloon was adhered to the wall of the pulmonary vein. The EP admittedly had difficulty placing the catheter and because of that I think an excessby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I also have Hasimotos Thyroiditis. It was diagnosed years before the afib/flutter developed. Not she of the connection. I take Levothyroxine daily. I do know lack of sleep causes me ectopic beats mostly PAC’s.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Have the best EP even if that means you have to travel. I was very active and in my best physical shape before my ablation. I ran a 50 k months before my 2017 ablation. I felt that I would have the procedure and be running in a month or two , but instead I got sick enough that I retired early because I was worried that my time on earth would be short. The EP had trouble with the ablation he admitby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I recently had a sleep study. When I went to the sleep doctor he said it was doubtful that I had sleep apnea and he was even hesitant to order the test but since it has was recommended by my cardiologist he ordered the study. I am tall, thin, female and very active. He said he thought there was no way it would be positive but it was. I now have a CPAP and have been very consistent using it. I went on a modified version of whole 30 after afib diagnosis to mainly decrease inflammation . Although I have a problem with their 30 days concept, I used the cookbook to help with eating healthier. I feel it helped me look at food ingredients and decrease sugar in my diet.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I’m not sure because I don’t know much about sleep apnea but my husband thinks I sleep quietly. He’s a heavy sleeper and is always asleep before me. I’m worried that prolonged issues will cause more damage to my heart. If you think you have issues I’d push for testing.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
So I finally had a home sleep study. 140 events and index of 18.5. Now I have an order for a in lab sleep study because I’m “thin, female and very active”. The doctor doesn’t think I have sleep apnea because of being thin and female!! My CO2 levels have been high on my blood panels for the past couple of years but the doctor just dismisses it because “I don’t have lung problems “. Does this sby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM

It’s now been two years since I was diagnosed with Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. In 2016 I was training for a 50 K and began noticing palpitations after training runs. Those palpitations also appeared after drinking alcohol especially wine. After several trips to my family doctor and being diagnosed with anxiety he finally did a Holter monitor which showed periods of Atrial fibrillation and fby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
The only testing I had before my first and only failed ablation was Holter monitor and EKG. I feel that had an echo or mri been done it may have alerted my EP that I had conjoined pulmonary veins and that cryoablation may not be the best choice for ablation. I saw my EP for the first time and had a cardiac cryoablation 5 weeks later. I had several complications following my ablation, along witby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
As a nurse I am (was) responsible for listening to people, interpret labs, give medications all in a responsible manner giving the patient my whole attention. Thank you for all the thoughtful responses. I appreciate all the advice. I have decided to take a step back and get myself together before any additional procedures. I need to work on stress management more than anything. I stopped the Amiodarone. Guess I'll see what happens. Thanks again. Peaceby Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was diagnosed in March. I understand. I am overwhelmed and confused too. I'm used to being strong and healthy, at least I was until my ablation in May. I'm just getting strong again and I'm told I need another ablation. My EP likes to do ablations I think. Hes doing 3-4 a week. Worried about if he knows what hes doing. Wonder if I'm rushing into a second ablation.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
I too have a common pulmonary vein and had ablation that decreased AF episodes but did not stop them. EP scheduled me for repeat ablation. Last one was cryoablation. This time scheduled for RF. CTA wasn't done prior to first ablation. I'm having one 2 day's prior to this next ablation. That's seems good that they know about the common vein before going in.by Patti Starr - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the replys. I am so confused. I always self convert. The longest run of AF was about 10 min. On Amiodarone no arrhythmia. Scheduled for December. I guess I'm impatient and want AF gone. I called and told cardiology I wanted to stop taking it and they convinced me to stay on it. I really want AF gone!! That is why I'm willing to do another ablation. I am new to this forum. 57 year old female, nonsmoker who is very active. I ran two 50K last year and I rock climb. BMI is 21. Hypothyroidism and Htn that is well controlled.
