Hello Jackie & Barb, Thanks for the replies. My local cardiologist (5-6 year back) wanted be to stop Eliquis because I was in my 50's and my chadvasc was 0. He and most doctors do not understand the risk of a slowed LAA. The bridging the surgeon would agree on was heparin to bridge before the surgery, and off all blood thinners for 5 day after. Hello Everyone, It has been a while since I have been on the afib forums. I pretty much forgot about afib for a few years. My last ablation from Dr. Natale has been about 6 years ago. Since then, I have been afib free. That 2nd ablation slowed the emptying of my LAA. Because of the LAA dis-function, I was on Eliquis. Just over 3 years ago I ended up in the emergency room with a gallbladdeby gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM
What a shame. Dr Natale is such a wonderful doctor and person. This will blow over and the good doctor and his reputation will stay intact. It seems clear he made an honest mistake during a highly upsetting event. Big deal. Who hasn’t made a mistake. I also think anything his patients can do to support him, we should. One night I had a gallbladder attack. Because with a gallbladder attack, the diagnosis is usually to have your gallbladder removed. I met with a few surgeons. None of them would agree to operate to remove my gallbladder using DR. NATALE‘s bridging protocol. The sticking point seem to be when to begin anticoagulation after the surgery. It was presented to the insurance company that simply waitiby gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM
A little off topic, I had my one year Watchman TEE last week at Scripps. Dr Natale “installed” the Watchman because of a slow velocity LAA. How we got insurance to approve the Watchman is a story itself. TEE results were no leaks, position was as placed, and all looked great. This coming September will mark 6 years afib free after my Dr Natale ablation. Could this be the end of my 10 Year aby gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM

Wow Jackie, glad you are doing well. I had a similar experience about a year and a half ago. Ended up in the ER with a gallstone that passed after a couple hours. Talk about pain! This gallbladder attack is what caused me to get approval for a Watchman device. They say once you have a gallbladder attack it only get worse going forward. That hasn’t been my experience, so far. Quotetobherd Lots of interesting discussion here. I'm inclined to wait a bit on the Watchman, as the improved version is supposed to be heading to the U.S. sometime next year. Less complications sounds good to me. Why are some saying that even missing one dose of Eliquis could be catastrophic? I was told that isn't true by my cardiologist. And if it were true, how would anyone oby gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteJackie That dentist was either unskilled at dental prophylaxis or certainly overly cautious. A routine dental 'cleaning' should not cause concern about bleeding risk when on Eliquis, unless, of course a) the skill factor is involved and b) severely inflamed gingival tissue with significant 'pocketing' from periodontal disease exists. Quotesmackman I am on 2.5 mg of Eliquis 2X a day. This decision was made after my Tee in Dec. 2016. My LAA was isolated in June of that same year. Everything on my TEE was good except no A waves on mistrial inflow. 2.5 mg of Eliquis is the same price as 5 mg tablet. I need to have injections for my back but I have to stop Eliquis for 3 days; No if ands or buts from this Pain Management Clinic.by gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey I will be doing the second Watchman TEE tomorrow. I have been on 1/2 Eliquis and a baby aspirin since the Watchman placement. Dr Natale did my Watchman. I am hoping tomorrow I can stop the Eliquis. Either way, now stopping blood thinners or aspirin, for tests, surgery, etc, does not carry the high risks it did before the Watchman. Good luck! But I'm sure it will be fine.by gmperf - AFIBBERS FORUM
Smackman, Insurance approve my Watchman because I had a gallbladder attack. The fact that I may have another gallbladder attack that may require emergency surgery while on Eliquis created a life threatening situation. A few months ago I had a gallbladder episode that landed me in the ER. I never had gallbladder issues before this. I believe I had a stone that got stuck on the way out. I want the Watchman device because I believe it is a better alternative than life long blood thinner medication. Your particular situation would probably benefit because you are only on asprin.
