Allofus After many ynears of paroxysmal AF and 18 months of persistent AF I had ablation in Bordeaux in January 2003, followed three days later by a second because of recurrence. In those far off days very few EPs would even attempt ablation for persistent AF. Since then I have been in nsr - 17 years and counting. I get a lot of ectopics but supplements dampen them down so I hardly noticeby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
LaniB January 2003. I’ve written about it many times here, try searching my name Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Before my first attempt at ablation in 2002 in Bordeaux I had a TEE/TOE. I had been on Warfarin for 18 months and been meticulous about keeping my INR in the required range. They still found a clot behind the heart so the ablation had to be postponed. Might be different with the newer OACs. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Seems to be available on Amazon UK I’ve never heard of the brand, no idea if it’s any good. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
My niece, who lives in a tiny village in the French Alps, has just been diagnosed with paroxysmal AF. She saw a cardiologist for the first time today, and he recommended that she get an ECG phone so that she can send him ECGs. He suggested a Withings watch because it was cheaper than Apple Watch. I have never heard of Withings and I suggested a Kardia Instead because I've used one myselfby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am certain that Hans used to say that. George - can you help here? I’ve tried searching but had no success. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
I seem to recall that Hans (founder and previous moderator of this site) said that AF did not increase stroke risk. But that was a while ago. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks George, I had found that when I googled him but couldn’t find anything else. He used to be one of the front runners, or else made a lot of noise, but he has gone very quiet. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
We used to hear about the work of Dr. Pappone in Italy but I haven’t heard him mentioned for a long time. Does anyone know what he is doing these days? Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
January 2003, ablation in Bordeaux after many years of paroxysmal AF and 18 months of long term persistent AF. A second ablation three days later because AF recurred. Since then, normal rhythm, 17 years and counting. I get many ectopics but tame them with magnesium, potassium, taurine and d-ribose. Most important thing is to choose a top grade EP - mine was done by Prof. Haïssaguere himseby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Barry Good to hear from you, very pleased that the cardioversion is still holding, long may it last! On January 8th I celebrated 17 years since my 'cringe' ablations in Bordeaux in 2003. (Long term readers will understand the 'cringe' bit!) Can't believe I have been so lucky, especially since it was for long term persistent AF, at a time when few EPs were evenby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Is this something new and brilliant, just a re-tread, or advance publicity for something not yet fully developed? In my experience the Daily Mail is not often a reliable source of accurate factual information so I have my doubts. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey afib is just too blatantly obvious in its irregularity for anyone even modestly trained in ECG interpretation to not recognize. Heck, it can be diagnosed without an ECG at all. It's almost always obvious just from palpating a pulse. Two ER doctors once told me that I was in AF after looking at my ECG. When my EP looked at it he said it was not AF but runs of many ectopics.by Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
As George mentioned, I had ablation in Bordeaux in early January 2003 after many years of paroxysmal AF and 18 months of long-term persistent AF with rapid ventricular response. AF recurred two days later so they did an immediate touch up. Prof. Haïssaguerre thought there might be a gap in one of the lines but this was not the case. He found a very toxic focus in the coronary sinus which heby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Congratulations on 13 years Ken. I did a bit of googling and was very impressed - congratulations on that too! Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Make sure you are referred to an electrophysiologist not a cardiologist. AF is an electrical problem. Cardiologists are plumbers. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
I tried acupuncture when I was living in Australia, with the top acupuncturist in Sydney - he treated the Aussie Prime Minister. He said I had too much fire and not enough water, fire being the heart and water being the kidneys. At the first consultation he said it was unlikely to help with my AF because I had had it for such a long time, and he was right, despite my persevering for over a yeby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Reading ECGs is tricky. I was once told by two senior ER doctors that mine showed AF, but when the EP saw it he said it wasn’t, it was runs of ectopics. Gill.by Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi DavrosT I used to get many many ectopics post ablation and they were very uncomfortable, like being kicked in the chest just as you describe. I experimented with supplements, starting with magnesium, then added taurine, then potassium. I still get just as many but I hardly notice them. Now I make my 'potion' every day - here is the recipe. But do remember that everyone is dby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Patrick The most important thing, as most people here will tell you, is to choose your EP very carefully. Ablation is one of the most difficult procedures and many EPs aren’t very good at it but are keen to improve their skills. Beware of them! You need someone who has done thousands of ablations and who does many every week. There are also a few EPs who have 'the gift' in theiby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Patrick I had paroxysmal AF from my early twenties for about 35 years, finally diagnosed by accident. I refused to let it affect my life except when it was actually happening, Scuba diving was my passion and many times I would sit out a dive because I didn’t feel quite right, but as soon as I felt back to normal I would be underwater again. Since I had it for a very long time without even knby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Peggy, that is interesting! Good to know that you're still poking around on the internet, always glad to see your posts. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
In UK I always asked the technician for a copy of my ECG. S/he would print 2 copies and put them in the file. When I saw the EP s/he would give me one, never a problem. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Before my ablation and touch up I too experienced this cycle, exactly as Pompom described. Felt as though energy had built up then discharged. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you for the update, Barry. Wishing you all the best for the next few months. Do keep us posted on what is happening. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Barry Just wondering how things are going for you. Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks George. The MOM that I made looked much more watery than the shop bought MOM, which is like pouring cream. Not sure I'm prepared to risk getting less magnesium, might have to go back to shop bought stuff. Worth trying though! For today’s potion I finished off a bottle of concentrate made with shop bought MOM and the rest was concentrate from home made. Will see what happens - bowby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
George I made the MOM and today used some of it to make a litre of Waller Water. However the bottle has not shrunk as it usually does. Do you think it will still be effective? Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
George - you wrote "I make my own MOM from magnesium hydroxide powder. I put 29g of magnesium hydroxide in 12 fl oz (354 mL) of water." I decided to try this and my mag. Hydroxide has now arrived. I intend to try your quantities as above. Question - could I then use my home made MOM to make WW in the usual way? Just need confirmation from the expert!! Gillby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barry I think Warfarin is very tricky. My Jan 2003 ablation should have happened in November 2002 but a TOE/TEE in the morning found a clot and I was turfed out of the hospital with supplies of calcyparin and instructions on what to do. I had been on Warfarin for over a year. In the weeks leading up to the TOE I was totally focused on getting to Bordeaux. I used to insist on weekly bloodby Gill - AFIBBERS FORUM
