Afib and the vagus nerve? New info on Ezoxx One

To Protect Your Heart (Magnesium and Calcium Levels): Taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Prilosec for over three decades can significantly reduce your body's ability to absorb vital minerals, specifically magnesium and calcium. Low magnesium is a well-known, direct trigger for AFib episodes and heart palpitations.Safe, Non-Systemic GERD Relief: Unlike Prilosec, which suppresses acid systemically throughout your entire body, Esoxx One works entirely locally. It is a gel that you swallow to physically coat, soothe, and protect the lining of your esophagus. It has no effect on your heart rhythm and will not deplete your body's essential minerals.Calming the Vagus Nerve: Severe GERD can directly irritate your vagus nerve, which runs right next to your esophagus and regulates your heart rate. By using a coating agent like Esoxx One to quiet down the physical irritation from acid, you may actually help prevent the vagal nerve stimulation that often triggers AFib episodes.

I’ve been on Prilosec since it became available decades ago. It just lost its effectiveness. My GI recommended this barrier one drinks. I asked AI if it could trigger arrhythmias and got the above reply

My Rx box states it’s manufactured at Biogarma in Italy. Amazon sells it under the name Ezoxx one for $67 for 20 packets. It doesn’t require a rx in the states. Shop on Amazon

AI:
Ezox (often sold as Esoxx One) is a non-invasive medical gel designed to provide rapid relief from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms. It physically coats and protects the esophageal lining, easing heartburn, stomach pain, and acid-related coughs without suppressing your stomach's natural acid production. How It WorksMucoadhesive Barrier: Unlike standard antacids or H2 blockers, Ezox uses a bioadhesive gel containing hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate.Rapid Healing: This combination adheres to the walls of the esophagus. It neutralizes irritation and creates a physical buffer against stomach acid and bile, accelerating the healing of esophageal inflammation (esophagitis).Usage & DosageFormat: Comes in ready-to-use liquid stick packs or sachets with a pleasant red grape flavor.Standard Intake: Typically, you consume one 10ml sachet after main meals and one at bedtime, or as directed by a healthcare provider.Timing: It is best to take it at a distance from other oral medications so it does not interfere with their absorption.AvailabilityEzox is classified as a medical device in many regions and can often be purchased over the counter in pharmacies or through international retailers like Amazon. It is known to be non-systemic (not absorbed by the GI tract), meaning it generally does not interact with food or other drugs. You can find more information about its active ingredients and clinical uses on the PubMed Central or browse international formulations on Pilula.co.il.

Susan,

It's good your doc is trying a different approach. From what I briefly read, Ezox works similar to alginates like Gaviscon Advance, but coating sensitive areas. Never really helped me, but worth a try, just make sure you time it properly with your other meds or there may be absorption issues and/or the GERD raft will break.

What has worked for me best, and I've tried all the PPIs including the nuclear-option Dexilant 60mg, the best by far is the newer drug Voquezna (Vonoprazan). It's a PCAB (potassium-competitive acid blocker), which only has to be taken once a day with or without food. I take the 20mg dose. If Voquezna is not available where you are, my second choice would be Dexilant 60mg, also only needed once-a-day, and also can be taken with or without food. Significantly better than any of the other PPIs I've tried, which need to be time with meals.

As to the PPIs (or PCAB's) decreasing vitamin and mineral absorption, this is the downside. However, in my case, the GI-Cardiac trigger is so strong (Roemheld Syndrome) that the benefits of suppressing the acid outweigh the loss of vitamins and minerals. To help compensate I monitor carefully, supplement when needed, including iron infusions several times a year.

Hope some of this helps.

Jim

Jim-thanks. My GERD wasn’t severe until I started Clindamycin. I saw a GI who told me the antibiotic was the culprit. It opened the acid floodgates and now I’m coughing acid all day all night long for three plus weeks so I have a sore throat and constant dry heaving acid. Exox helps a lot. It does stop the pain and gives me a break. I got this delicious Ezox chocolate flavor here. It’s available at my clinic by preordering and also by private pharmacies. Each box only lasts 5 days so I’m hoping there won’t be any shortages soon. Amazon has it and I ordered a backup. AI has made my GERD diet menu today. Drinking water helps. I stopped Prilosec. I’ve been on Prilosec for 30-35 years (?) so being off has increased my acid flow. I don’t know if I can take both.

I don’t know if they have the drug you suggested. It takes work but I can apply for a ministry of health export from either Canada or Germany.

I received my Amazon product. It’s from the Ukraine (!!!). It has a third ingredient (Poloxamer 407) that I am not happy about. My insurance (HMO) overseas also provides it with the poloxamer:
[en.wikipedia.org]

Reports of adverse effects
It was reported in The Australian newspaper 18 November 2006 that this common ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash can cause high cholesterol in mice.[8] A team from the Centre for Ageing and the ANZAC Research Institute in Sydney used it as a tool to demonstrate that cells in the liver behave like a sieve. They gave a high dose (1 gram per kilogram of body weight) of poloxamer 407 to mice, which blocked 80% of the pores in liver cells that absorb lipoproteins, leading to a 10-fold increase in plasma lipid levels.[9] However, the dose used is far higher than a person would be exposed to in toothpaste or mouthwash.

The packet dose is 10ml four times a day.
I think this is higher than exposure to toothpaste.

The product insert of product made in Italy:
[ibb.co]

The Ukraine didn’t have any insert nor English. They call it Esoxx ONE. Drugs.com confirmed it’s the same product.

AI:
The official product information and patient leaflets for the Ezox medical device do not list the exact percentage or specific amount of Poloxamer 407 contained in each 10ml packet.Because Ezox is classified and registered as a mechanical medical device rather than a drug, the manufacturer (Apharm) is only legally required to disclose the names of the ingredients, not their quantitative percentages.Formulation ContextPurpose: In the Ezox formula, Poloxamer 407 functions as a highly bioadhesive agent (a "bio-adherent").Mechanism: Its role is to help the active barrier components—hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate—stick to the esophageal wall for a prolonged period, shielding the tissue from stomach acid.Complete Composition: The full ingredient list for a 10ml packet includes hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), xylitol C, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, flavorings, purified water, and Poloxamer 407.

It is helpful but I don’t want my cholesterol to get worst. I currently have zero plaque in my arteries according to multiple MRIs and CTs and an angiogram.
Thoughts?

I googled if the Ukraine version is legit:
Marki Esoxx One sourced or distributed via Ukraine is generally considered the same core formulation as Italian-market versions (often produced by Alfasigma), provided it is an authentic product, but regulatory oversight differs.Key differences involve distribution channels, regional packaging compliance, and supply chain verification rather than the base mechanical ingredients.Genuine Esoxx One relies on a consistent composition of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, and Poloxamer 407 regardless of the regional box it ships in.Safety and Quality ControlManufacturing Standards: Authentic Esoxx One is originally developed as an Italian medical device. Units found in various regional markets must still adhere to local import and registration laws.Supply Chain Risks: Purchasing pharmaceuticals or medical devices from third-party online sellers or secondary import channels tied to regions with active disruptions (like Ukraine) raises the risk of receiving counterfeit, improperly stored, or expired stock.Product Integrity: Check that the outer packaging, batch numbers, expiration dates, and seals are intact and match official labeling standards.

My product my pharmacy supplied me is from Italy, manufacturer MegaPharm LTD. The Ukraine version is distributed by Alfasigma Poland. AI said “often produced by Alfasigma”. “Often” is too vague.

I’m still concerned about the poloxamer. Would you use it? There is currently a thread about high cholesterol. Everyone in my family has a genetic disposition of getting high cholesterol. However I am vomiting acid or cough all day unless I use this product.
