Thanks for posting. My well-ripened dad passed away on his own terms in late January. He had MAID. His QOL was pretty crappy the last two years of his life, so he convinced the Powers That Be that he would eventually qualify for MAID, and it was granted to him. He toughed out his 3/10 existence until late December when he couldn't pee...which he does at least three times each night. Or did. He was given a bag and catheter, and that apparatus was so cumbersome and intrusive that he decided to pull the plug.
He was formally diagnosed with hyponatremia three times since 2018, and he had to take salt tablets or salt his water...which he found also to be intrusive. Who enjoys drinking brackish water?!?! But, he would slip and every 30 months or so, back to the ER to start the process of re-educating him all over again (I say this with great humility and respect because he was a brilliant mining engineer, honors Chem and Math from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario). His sleep was horrible and short, but he managed to keep a bright optimism until the last two years, and was a successful day trader as a hobby until his last few days. So, sleep didn't impair him...much. But his prodigious production of urine was ultimately his undoing, that and it's management. He had suffered a bad fall two years previously that left him with a walker and stooped. Dealing with the urine bag was just too much for his back and he began to suffer in agony. His 96 year old squeeze could do little to help, but she did, often on her knees on a hard floor. And she, also, with a cricky back that had her lying for hours on that same hard floor.
This is long....but I wanted to say that urine carries away with it both impurities and minerals/elements/electrolytes. They must be replaced constantly.
Thanks for the tip about the nanoknife.
