EKG please read
January 27, 2025 07:45AM
I had the flu A for 1 week.

Few days ago I was having cold chills and shaking. I took Tamiflu and 2 Tylenol then 30 minutes later broke out in sweat and high pulse.

Went to ER got EKG.

I'd like everyone's opinion on it and why it happened. What can you see from the EKG

Tamiflu Maybe

[pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

"Oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor that is labeled for prophylaxis and treatment of influenza. We describe a previously healthy 4-month-old infant who tested positive for influenza A and was started on oseltamivir. One hour after receiving his first dose of oseltamivir, the infant had a diaphoretic episode and appeared grey and clammy. The infant was subsequently seen by the primary care physician and referred for admission to the hospital. Approximately 40 minutes after the second dose of oseltamivir in the hospital, the infant's heart rate rose to greater than 300 bpm. An electrocardiogram was suggestive of supraventricular tachycardia."

ECG looks normal rhythm but tachycardia at 107 BPM. At least you didn't get the 300 BPM of the infant in the report above.

On the ECG it notes chest pain. I assume the ER docs saw nothing concerning other than the tachy?

Normal response to fever. Your pulse rises 10 bpm for ever 1 degree centigrade (1.8 F) of fever.

Thanks for the feedback.
I came in of complaining of chills, sweats
And tachycardia.

The triage nurse misput chest pain i guess

I do have IST inappropriate sinus tachycardia
And had 10 beats of SVT while wearing a ZIO heart
Monitor but I was in normal sinus RYTHEM

Beta blockers help. 25mg Metrpoholol Tartrate 1-2 daily or as needed also taking 12 5 olmesartan for blood pressure everyday or as needed but my primary prefers everyday to keep my numbers below 120/80

I don't think this was an arrhythmia. Like I said, I think it was most likely just a normal physiological response to the fever. Chills generally indicate you have a pretty high fever.

I want to start light jogging 2 miles 5 days a week

Is jogging healthy

I'm 68 and although I've been in normal rhythm since 2017, that came at the price of 6 ablations. I had afib and atrial flutter with very high rates (230-250).

Yes, I like cycling and hiking.

Exercise, including jogging, is always healthy. If you can, you should.

At 69, I exercise quite a bit- strength training, skiing, rock climbing, endurance & high intensity cardio and so on. I've had afib for 20+ years and had a 2.5 month episode in the first 4 months of starting afib. I also determined that chronic fitness was my path to afib. For me, one of the things I did to mitigate afib being a trigger was to limit exertion for long duration activity to what I could do nasal breathing (I can do short duration high intensity without issue). Today, I can do almost everything with only nasal breathing.
