Recomendations - hotels in Austin for Natale

I stayed at the Midtown Holiday Inn in May, 2023 for my first ablation with Dr. Natale and it was fair, but think I'd like an alternative place when I go back in August. I don't need ultra fancy, but appreciate cleanliness and acessable restaurants, either at the hotel or nearby. Thnaks for any recomendations.

Dr. Natale did a very good initial ablation, but this time around he plans to isolate my LAA and 2 or 3 months after, install a Watchman. I've gotten extraordinary care (and follow up with my nurse navigator) from Dr. Natale's team.

A few months after the ablation I needed some regulatory med, so got on 50 mg of flecainide twice /day, which was excellent at keeping my heart steady/regular. But now it seems to give me fatigue/ sleepiness. I realize this can be a side effect, but curious about other's experiences with flecaininde.

If you spend the money to stay in one of the downtown hotels near the UT campus, you'll be surrounded by walkable restaurants, convenience stores, etc. It's a college town, so good eateries abound. St. David's will be a 3 minute Uber/Lyft ride away. It's actually walkable and a nice walk across campus, but forget that idea in the summer. I did that once. Big mistake. Austin is effing hot!

If you save money by staying in one of the typical hotels like Holiday Inn Express, etc, out on the highways, you'll pay half as much but your savings will be wiped out by the ride costs because there won't be anything walkable. Every meal will be an Uber ride or a delivery fee or a grossly overpriced hotel kitchen meal.

I've been to Austin 5 times, and I've stayed at the Hilton on Lavaca St 4 of those times. Excellent choice, and it's not that bad right now at $150 per night. The other time I stayed at the Days Inn just a block from St. David's. One word: Don't. It's cheap, and there's a reason it's cheap. The mattress needed to be replaced 10 years ago, and the carpet 20 years ago.

Once for an ablation, once for a Watchman, once for a TEE, and twice for other things (not procedures).

My ablation for PACs with him "failed" (not his fault I am sure, I am a difficult case) after only 6 months. Back on Flec+Met cause otherwise I am on constant PACs. Had to increase the Flec from 50 (twice day) to 100 (twice day) this week, cause my PACs were breaking through. PACs gone (for now), but I definitely feel "weird"....like lightheadness almost, hard to describe it. Sort of "numb". But vitals all look normal, including HR and BP. God know what these meds do in the long term...so yeah, heading for another ablation as soon as they give me the ok cause meds are not the answer.

I have an telemedicine appointment with Dr. Natale later this month.
As a frequent traveler to Austin, I know a bit about the city. Great area with much to offer. I would recommend looking at a Airbnb in the Domaine. This is a great option if you plan on staying for awhile. The Domaine is a shopping/dining/housing complex that would give you all the advantages of a hotel with the walkability and convenience you could desire.
If it is a short trip and money is no object, the Four Seasons is fabulous and just a short distance fromTCA. If you want a more reasonable and "hip" place, try Kasa 2nd Street.
Good luck. Doc

Have been to Austin "bizillions" of times. If.....If you have a car check the I-35 and 290/183 corridor. Many good choices from mid-priced to more expensive options. Over the years have stayed at many of these hotels.

Lot of eating options as well.

Unless morning rush hour, 10-20 minutes from St Davids.
