Antiarrythmics

Just got out of the hospital, they put me on cardizm, but it didn't stop the afib, does it take time to work? Any info would help, thanks

It only helped me with a push (iv syringe straight into my vein), instead a drip which is diluted into a bag of saline or piggy backed with a small bag of Cardizem.

Everyone is different but perhaps ask for a slow push within 8 minutes. A RN disagreed that it would work so I asked him to let me bet on it. He high 5 me when it worked and I had him as my advocate afterwards whenever I went to the ER.

Ask your EP to write a letter for the ER to have on hand.

My experience was the same as susan.d’s—a push works much better than a drip, but since it is not an antiarrythmic, it also may not work at all. If you have to go again, you could request that they give you an antiarrythmic.
