Hi, is first degree heart block a big issue?

No, first degree isn't generally serious and usually has no symptoms. It's common in perfectly healthy athletes and teenagers, also in people with a highly active vagus nerve.

However, it isn't without its problems, or could have some problems associated with it. It is surprisingly common, but is associated with 'all cause' mortality and it often involves the installation of a pacemaker. Depends on the person. Your electrophysiologist ought to have supplied you with a handout, or maybe some links for your use for self-education.

It would have to be 2nd or 3rd degree block to warrant a pacemaker. In an otherwise healthy patient with no other comborbidities it's a pretty benign condition and not usually treated.
