Blood Pressure Question

Blood Pressure Question
January 08, 2022 10:05AM
I'm currently taking the following...

I'm 76 year old, female
50mg Flec (2X/day)
12.5 mg Metoprolol (2X/day)
Losartan-Hyzaar (50-12.5mg) 1/2 Pill (Once a day)

So previously, I was taking my Losartan in the afternoon (1pm), and my blood pressure would avg 120-150/80-95 where closer to 120/80 during the morning and early afternoon, but would always creeptup past 140-150/90+ by evening. So I found an article that taking Metoprolol and Losartan at the same time work well together. Sure enough, yesterday was the first day, my BP was much lower where I'm in the 90s, low 100s over 60s-70s. I wish I could figure out a more common ground 110-120/70-80 with BPs, but wanted to get everyone's feedback on this. Safe to be at this lower levels? I read for elders, should be at least 110 for Systolic. :-/

Many thanks,
Lee

Systolic in the 90s is quite low and runs the risk of syncope (fainting). Do you feel any dizziness or lightheadedness at all when you're that low? How about when you rise from a sitting or lying position?

Hi Lee, my non-medical opinion is if you are asymptomatic, it isn't an issue. If you aren't comfortable, perhaps you could discuss adjusting the dosage of one or more meds down a bit to tweak it.

I'm 66 and am commonly in the 90's / 50's or even 40's without issue (no meds). I have absolutely no symptoms, even getting up from a prone position quickly. My current wife and my first wife live at 90/50, or thereabouts unmedicated. My first wife is 68 and has had this BP since I met her in 1978.

Yep, asymptomatic over here! Thanks for sharing your BPs. Very re-assuring.

I agree with George that if you're asymptomatic it's nothing to worry about. That's why asked about feeling dizzy or lightheaded. If you don't then you're good to go.
