Flutter not afib
September 21, 2021 10:43AM
Flutter, not Afib, is my problem. First event 6 yrs ago. Then every 2 yrs, now every two months.
Alway flutter. One electrovert after 10 days in flutter. Initially, events initiated in sleep – now also during intense effort (resistance training). Resting HR about 50 with 6mg x2 metopolol - limited by HR how much meto I can take. I am 62 and otherwise in great health and have always been active. None of my cardios will talk about ablation or anything but meds. I wonder how much of the afib info here applies to me – again, I only experience flutter. I wonder when I should think about ablation. Thoughts or advice? Thanks.

Even though youre in Gainesville (i went to UM) lol heres the answer: if its right flutter then an outpatient ablation is one of EPs most simple procedures! With a cure rate of about 95%. Do it!!!! Youll never have it again. So no afib?? If thats the case you may need a new EP. meds are very ineffective vs flutter. Its very hard to stop. I had right flutter ablated in 2012. To date zero episodes of it

I have atypical flutter. Had an 3rd ablation in February 2021 for a while I went into a flutter took metropole, ditilizam180 once a day

, sotalol 60 2 times a day. after ablation went on ditiilazm an sotalol.

I have not had flutter in several months. If I do get flutter doctor say take 30 mg ditlizam ever 6 hours or until I got back in normal sinus rhythm

Don't give up on ablation get one. Your next option is pace maker which does not cure the flutter only it let your heart beat so much.

Good luck

Yes Barry i had Dr Natale ablate my atypical flutter 8/6. So far so good. We ll see. Yes i took diltalizem and propananol too which would keep rate down. But i think his is right flutter?? Im not sure but i thought left flutter was a late result of afib ablation happening years later?? Anyway right can be cured easy

Thanks. Very useful. I have an appt with my cardio tomorrow and this will guide my discussion. I am on my 4th cardio doc and none have discussed distinction between afib/flutter nor ablation option. thanks. again. -Sven
