Just to be clear, AV node ablation is a procedure of last choice. It will definitely prevent all atrial arrhythmias from affecting your heart rate, but the price is you'll be completely dependent on a pacemaker for the rest of your life. And it won't get you off anticoagulants because your atria will remain in afib (or flutter or whatever your particular arrhythmia is). It's just that the arrhythmia won't affect your ventricles, and therefore your heart rate. That should eliminate all symptoms for most people.

Susan

A few thoughts....

This study was done here in UK. I get the impression, sad to say, that we are behind the curve in the treatment of AF (and many other conditions) because over the last 10 years our government has cut spending on health care, and we now spend less per head than most other European countries.

The study was looking at mortality rates after AV node ablation and pacing, it wasn’t considering if it was a good course of treatment.

I didn’t think AV node ablation and pacing was still being done.

Susan;

i would try Amiodarone before a AV node ablation, don't like the drug but it has worked.

I read its 5% higher after an AV ablation
I’m back in the ER with 143hr STV . Saturday I was also in hospital admitted with 148hr afib until Sunday after lunch. I can’t live in hospitals so I stayed home Sunday night when it returned until the symptoms became concerning to return. It’s a revolving door. My EP saw my Kardia and said to hang up and run (well Lyft) back

There should be a less invasive plan B

I’m allergic to iodine and this drug contains 10%.

Thanks. It’s a rerun of M.A.S.H here. No Er rooms so patients are being treated in the waiting room and halls. I’m waiting to get ecv. 4.5 hr wait.

Update-successful ecv. #47. Let’s see how long it lasts. Nsr is heaven.
