Gentlefolk,

My partner's mother has Alzheimer's and she is taking care of her interstate.

She sent me the following question and I wonder if anyone has any ideas on digoxin alternatives[Linoxin is just a trade name ]

I remember that on the forum years ago digoxin was viewed negatively.

Thanks

Alex

Alex,

My understanding is that digioxin is used for ventricular rate control in aftb. Cardiologist #2 (for me) told me it was his favorite afib med. At that time, I was a 49 year old lone afibber. I refused the drug. Not sure it is a horrid choice in your partner's mother's situation. Looking at the med list, she also might have heart failure, hence the diuretic? Or is that just for blood pressure.

Other rate control meds can be beta blockers.

Note she's not on a blood thinner (except for the 100 mg Astrix - basically a baby aspirin).

Thanks for the prompt and thoughtful reply George,

Don't know if it will help but my partner says

"The diuretic pills for swollen legs and some fluid in lungs.
Blood pressure pills for blood pressure which are working well 120/70 the other day, maybe even a tad low. ''

Alex,

"The diuretic pills for swollen legs and some fluid in lungs." Sounds like heart failure symptoms to me. See: <[www.mayoclinic.org]

She has fluid because the heart isn't up to the task of pumping the fluid off.
