Part 2 Brain Health of the Flecainide Alert post

Part 2 - Brain Health (of the Flecanide Alert) details important facts about neurotoxicity, neurodegeneration and preserving brain health and function is now posted in the General Health Forum although it really should be front and center here in the Afib forum because a recent meta-analysis shows a link between Atrial Fibrillation and cognitive decline.

" Atrial fibrillation carries a significant risk for cognitive decline, even when stroke is not involved, a meta-analysis found.

In 14 observational and prospective studies of patients with or without stroke, the relative risk of cognitive impairment was 1.40 (95% CI 1.19 to 1.64), according to Jeremy N. Ruskin, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, and colleagues.

The risk was similar when researchers excluded cognitive impairment and analyzed the studies only for dementia, “which is more reliably diagnosed than cognitive impairment,” (RR 1.38, 95% CI 1.22 to 1.56), they reported March 4 (2013) in the Annals of Internal Medicine. [www.medpagetoday.com]

Alzheimer’s disease is the fastest growing health threat in the United States according to a new landmark report from researchers at the University of Washington, Seattle. A 2013 study in the journal Neurology found that the number of people with Alzheimer’s disease will jump from 4.7 million to 13.8 million by 2050. Associated health care costs will skyrocket from $200 billion to more than $1 trillion by 2050, increasing the cost of Medicaid and Medicare by 500 percent.

In America, a new case of Alzheimer’s develops every 68 seconds; by 2050, the incidence will increase to every 33 seconds.

Please be smart and arm yourself with information about neurotoxic chemical exposure and other detrimental influences on brain health.

I'm confused.

The Ruskin study admits of confounding factors. One of them, I suspect, is a history of neuroactive drugs such as flecainide, beta-blockers, etc.

I don't get the fluoride connection implied in the second link. It seems to me neuroactive drugs are quite toxic enough on their own; any fluoride content or context is of minor concern.

______________
Lone paroxysmal vagal atrial fibrillation. Age 62, female, no risk factors. Autonomic instability since severe Paxil withdrawal in 2004, including extreme sensitivity to neuro-active drugs, supplements, foods. Monthly tachycardia started 1/11, happened only at night, during sleep, or when waking, bouts of 5-15 hours. Changed to afib about a year ago, same pattern. Frequency increased over last 6 months, apparently with sensitivity to more triggers. Ablation 6/27/13 by Steven Hao.

Iatrogenia – As far as the meta-analysis goes… my thought is… where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

The intention of the Brain Health report was to point out some of the problems with collective toxicity burdens that contribute to the increasing prevalence of escalating mental decline not only in the elderly. As the Part 2 report docments..it's not just fluoride but many other neurotoxic chemicals that lead to neurodegeneration.

We already know from Part 1 that fluoride toxicity harms ion pumps directly involved in heart electrical conduction (rhythm) and damage to critical proteins. Connecting the dots, the meta-analysis serves as yet another link to why it’s important to avoid toxic bioaccumulation.
