JVP ?

At a routine visit to my cardiologist he did a few weird tests not explaining what they were, just asking me to lie back and turning my head to the left, doing a bit of measuring and listening to my heart.
The report came today saying my JVP was slightly raised at 4 centimetres, can anyone explain what this was about?
