Odd idea for Mg delivery

First, I want to say I've made fantastic progress in fighting my condition, thanks in no small part to guidance from this forum. At some point, I'll post with my story, but these are busy days and for now I just popped in with a thought.

I know many people struggle to absorb Mg here, and it just occured to me: perhaps one could deliver Mg to the heart by spritzing it into the lungs via some kind of inhaler (or even just a spray bottle)?

Now, I know NOTHING about how the lungs would respond to having Mg in them, nor do I know how effectively Mg would be absorbed by the lungs, so DON'T go and try this at home or anything. But I wanted to raise the possibility for discussion, because blood is carried directly from the lungs back to the heart, in a very short trip. So, if it were safe, and if Mg were absorbed effectively in the lungs, it might be a good way to get a high dose to the heart, or at least to part of the heart.

Just brainstorming. Apologies if there is something terribly stupid about the idea. I didn't screen my idea for stupidity prior to posting.

Hi NIck,

So my first thought was ... you go first & let us know how it goes.

However I did the above search & found such things as:

"Inhale magnesium sulphate along with beta-2-agonists during asthma attacksSevere asthma attacks can be life threatening and intravenous magnesium sulphate is known to help, but inhaling nebulised magnesium sulphate can also improve lung function."

So maybe if you ran it through a nebulizer - not just snorted it out of your netti pot.

Obviously not totally a wacked idea.

Wait ...

There's more ...

Search on:

nebulized magnesium

Nebulized Magnesium Sulfate in the Management of Acute Exacerbations of Asthma

Interesting thought.

Huh, nice refs! I'll do some more research, and if it turns out to be a low risk thing, will guinea pig myself for the greater good.

One of my young friends has an 18 mo. old child who suffers from asthma and they have the nebulizer with magnesium. She says it works well. When I asked her if they had also recommended supplemental magnesium, she looked blank. Apparently the fact that a magnesium deficiency is connected with asthma hasn't made it to her pediatrician's desk yet.

However if you check this link, you'll note many references about the usefulness of this type of delivery. [www.mgwater.com]
