Aerobics and ablation

For those who have had ablations over 3 to 6 months ago, what are your experiences with aerobic excersise before and after ablation? I`m having problems with aerobic activity.I can do things like work with weights and other physical activities but most times I`m on a treadmill, riding a bike or walking at a brisk pace I`m feeling extremely dizzy.I`ve tried adjusting meds with no luck. While on the Nordic track today my BPM were up to 120 at what I would consider a moderate pace.I have read about elevated HR after ablation and I think I`m one of those stats.Never abnormal beating while working out, just faster than before....Any feedback would help...Just for an update,I`m still on 50 MG of Toprol and a baby aspirin each day.My ablation was in the middle of August...Sammy

Sammy,

FWIW, I've read MANY times of recent ablationees having elevated HRs for 3-6 months after ablation. Give it time my friend, go steady with the workouts for the time being, and don't let it the elevated HR stress you out!

Best wishes,

Mike F.

Sammy, I am a very active cyclist. I had my ablation March 3rd. I did not exercise at my doctors advice for 10 days. When I started riding my heart rate would not go very high at all. I could only get it to 115 on a route that should have gotten me into the 150+bpm range. It also climbed very slowly. I was on Atenolol for about 10 days, and wasn't sure if it was the procedure or the drug. What I found was that it took me about 3 months to get my HR to what I would consider normal response. I would gain about one or two beats a week on my max heart rate. After 3 months I got my HR to what I thought my normal max hear rate should be, 181 bpm. It has been normal since. the only other odd thing I have encountered is that pre ablation I never skipped beats while I was working out. I now get skipped beats about every ride, 2-3 times per ride.

As Mike said, give it time. My cardiologist told me that the heart is like any other part of your body, if you break a bone, it might be knitted back together in 6 weeks or so, but it isn't done healing for a long time after that. Good luck

Hi Sammy,

I too am experiencing a resting rate of about "106ish" as the Clinic just told me via the little monitor they gave me to take home aftedr ablation on Aug.4. This tech just told me it's not tachycardia until it reaches 120. My regular EP had told me 100. I had two pacs, tech said. I guess if I want to stay lower I have to go back on Atenolol. But I wonder what the loong term effect of that is. Guess nothing in this world is perfect.

Wondering too,
njb
