ablation
October 18, 2003 08:14PM
Well, I will have my ablation on the 22nd of Oct. with a Dr. Stites in Charleston. He has trained w/ a group in Canada, and also has worked with Dr. Whorton, whom I consulted with just recently.

I am more than ready since I have had af since I was 19 yoa, and I am now 48. I start my shots on Monday, which will be two in the morning and two in the afternoon. (Not sure why, two?). I was told that it will take about 4 hours to prep me for the procedure. (Mr Doctor says procedure, not operation as i called it).

I go off the coumadin today, and all of my other heart medications tomorrow, which will knock me in one wild ride of AF by Sunday night.
(Take flacinide, toprol and cardizem).

I was told by my Cardio, that he does not wand any heart meds in the system to interfer with the EP studay and ablation.

I am preparing myself by shaving chest, and around the groin, since I was told it needed to be done I would rather do it myself.

Had some problems a few years ago and a women 65 yoa shaved me in the
groan area. I don't know who was more uncomfortable me or her. Anyway, I was told he will put me under completely and I should not remember anything (That is how I want it).

I should be home by Thurs, 23rd, if no problems. As I have been telling my friends, I will be cured one way or the other, assuming something major goes wrong, then I will be in a much better place.

Not being morbid, but for me the wild ride of AF has to end.

Sorry about the long note. Pray for me, as I pray for all who take the choice of ablation on this site.

JRBabb,
Darlington

Dear JRB - Prayers coming your way as I type. You will be fine. I share your apprehension. With all the recent reports from those having ablation, I am confident we are doing the right thing. Enjoy your reclaimed life. Please be sure to report in and tell all.

Be well. Jackie

Dear JRB,

Best wishes and prayers from Marian in Miami, Florida. I always add this line to the Lord's prayer: "Give us this day our daily normal sinus rhythm."

Hi JRBabb
Best of luck and I'm sure you will come out of it in flying colours. I live in Canada and would like to know which group of Dr.s in Canada Dr. Sites trained with. I'm with a group here in London,Ontario,Canada who train lots of EP's and have an ablation with them also soon. Would you be so kind as to find out which group in Canada he trained with. I know Dr. Natale at CCF trained here in London,Ontario with this group of EP's. All the best on the 22.Oct.

I'm sure you'll be fine.
My brother would laugh at this little 'procedure' as he has had three kidney transplants. Being half Irish, one was on St. Patrick's Day, another on New Year's Day (he was the only one they could find since everyone else was out drinking - strange for an Irishman). I am not good at chapter and verse but I always remember that Jesus in talking to the father about his disciples said something like:
I kept them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me.

Thank you all for the words, they mean more to me than I could put in writing. Of course I will report the success and update those who want to know anout Dr. Stites and who he trained with in Canada, for my brothers and sisters next door.

Re Howie's note, I believe the chapter and verse you referred to is the gospel of John, chapter 17, verses 11 and 12: "Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name." (New King James version).

Yes, you (and all of us) are being kept in good hands!

Peggy,
We all have a lot of things to worry about...but we shouldn't worry too much!
I was up because I got a call from my sister at 2:00 a.m.! She had lost the feeling in her left arm. She was worried, as anybody would be.... She has a slipped disc in the c5-c6 area and these things sometime cause her this sensation. She is having it checked out and I talked with her today, she is fine. I was fairly certain it wasn't any other problem like a TIA or heart related, after she went through her signs and symptoms (This EMT training is really starting to pay off!) ....I told her if she was really worried to go to the ER. She didn't want to go... Modern medicine can still do amazing things!..... now if we could just get them to recognize what we are doing to our bodes....nutrition wise that is!

Take care,
Joe
