The guy in this link analyzed it and thinks that 5 breaths for minute is optimal - this would be about 6 seconds inhale & 6 seconds exhale. He sells CD's that prompt you to breathe with a chime or such at 6 second intervals. You could probably make your own with a cassette & then try it.
I've played with this time interval & watched my Freezeframe pulse monitor & it dose seem to be an effective interval for "coherence" & stress reduction.

My suggestion would be to breathe in & out every 6 seconds, without really thinking too hard about it. Just let it happen. Maybe make a tape with a little chime sound every 6 seconds. Close your eyes and breath in and out diaphramatically (also gently & easily) through the nose.
liz, you might try this interval with the stresserasser & see if it works for their system.
